Democracy & Elections usually don't exist in MMOs for a reason.
Hopefully it works out for the best here.

Hopefully it works out for the best here.We need to dare to breath new life into the genre. Very few have tried to do something different when in comes to political systems in MMOs, and there's no reason why democracy won't work if the system is well designed and takes into account all "loopholes"
(on a side note, you can rule your town as a guild town and avoid the "democratic" side of the system)

Excellent overview, and I'm kind of digging the idea of elections. Although, I hope y'all iterate on the length between. Just a couple weeks IRL is really short. Maybe every quarter or so.

Agreed. I'll get sick of those elections every few weeks, every 3 months sounds better. I like the idea of these towns and the political system.
If the time between elections gets extended there needs to be a way for the citizens to place a vote of no confidence in the governor.
For those that purchase the Governor pledge pack, loose prestige and the town turns into a Hamlet, what happens to their purchase? Do they automatically become Governor again when the Hamlet turns back into a Town, or have they lost the privilege?

Did I get that right, a guild leader who's Governor on the Beast planet can not be removed from power (no siege and no vote)?
-
The option for solo is a bonus for me. I am curious about the amount of damage a player's home suffers when raided.
"Building a home in a free area guarantees total freedom, but also comes with some risk (if on Syndesia or Tartaros). While player buildings can’t be destroyed and cultivations can’t be pillaged by strangers, players with malicious intent can still enter claimed lots, which lack the partial protection from crime granted by guards in town (or the total protection offered by a Good-aligned town on Syndesia)."
Other players can enter, but will they be able to do anything? Loot contents of storage? Take furniture/items? Steal your prize-winning pig?
-
Pretty cool. Hope you guys make it
-
This whole election and rule system is quite complex is it not? Hope to see it succeed.

If he declared his town as a guild town, yeah, as much as he cannot be removed from the role of guild master of the guild.
A guild town belongs to a guild. If you join it as a citizen, it's typically because you're part of the guild already, or anyway accept to submit yourself to the rule of the guild. That's true on Syndesia and Tartaros as well (sure, a war could happen there, but you're still accepting the rule of a guild if you move to a guild town).
If you quit the guild or no longer approve its rule, you can simply get your stuff, leave the town and move somewhere else (live by yourself, move to a free town, join another guild and its town). What's so bad about that?

They can't destroy or steal your stuff, nope.

But be wary - they can still kill you, if you are currently farming your land and loot your corpse.

@Prometheus
A few questions right from the top of my head:-
It was not mentioned anywhere - can a player have two homes? One in a city and one outside, int free lands?
Of course the costs of maintaining both at the same time may be high enough that it will not be reasonable, but is it still possible? -
If yes, how does the NPC Carpenter contract apply? Does he take care of both houses, or maybe we can designate him to work only in one?
-
If yes, can a man become a Governor in two different cities at the same time?
-
Can a Guild control more then one city?
