City Sieges Live & All-Backers Event
-
Hi everyone!
It's been really hard, but we finally made it: city sieges are live, and all players with a founder pack can come test them out, disregarding its tier. Yes, today marks the start of a new All-Backers event!
...and sure, we are aware many of you got tired and decided to quit and wait for the Summer Alpha. That's why we've made sieges resource-free to test (almost costless!) and got rid of city maintenance and requirements almost entirely until the end of the test.
What took us so long? Why releasing them now instead of a dedicated test? How long is the Spring Alpha going to last? All the answers are here!
Happy sieging!

Excellent news! I'll try and see who I can gather.
-
That sounds great!
-
Indeed it took in my opinion way too long, but better now than never.
I just hope some of the people who droped the current alpha will come back to test the final feature for the Spring Alpha.I am also curious about the upcoming announcements.
One of your statements got me most:
"For now, it suffices to say that it’s taken away some dev time today to make things a lot better tomorrow – communication included!"Especially the communication, i am hoping so much, that you guys will find the time to get closer to the community again, i think thats the most important part of your statement.
I will give you some in advance.

So it looks like people from out of town won't care much about the siege. The citizens will be the most involved. And it will be possible to launch city conquest attacks every 4 days in that case?
I look forward to seeing some videos. It's going to be interesting.
-
well, this woke me up! So glad to hear not only that sieges are going live at last, but also that you're able to take on some much-needed staff to help spread the work around. Gratz!

Can everybody sign up as defender/attacker or are there restrictions?
Can leaders on either side remove people from the list?
How long is the 'prime time' window and can it be edited?
-
Interesting info, thanks for posting.
-
I'm anxious to hear how these go. This topic could make or break the game as everyone will be affected by this mechanic in a major way.

Indeed, citizens are the ones truly involved in city warfare. City conquests can be launched at any time provided the conditions listed in the blog post hold true... unless you meant attacking the same city - in that case yes, once every 4 days for conquests.

How long is the 'prime time' window and can it be edited?Everyone can apply (unless already listed as combatant in the same siege or a different one), but they have to be accepted by the leader of the attack / the govs of the defending city... and they can be removed, yes
The prime time is either US or EU and is fixed. Govs can change it from the Town Hall menu - the option has been there since the start of the test

Either citizens can't see that, or I'm too stupid to find it.
Does that mean it's a 12 hours window depending on your choice, or what's considered prime time for each?

I am very happy to hear about the changes, the new system, and see the colored horses.
Sadly I feel that this update is a 'for Governors only' thing as only they may initiate sieges from a town.
I encourage the developers to make it so that Vice-Governors can initiate sieges for at least the remainder of this alpha as the number of Governors who are actually active is very small to non existent and as such town vs town sieges will not happen or be tested.
Yes, thanks to the requirements and cost reductions five active people -could- abandon their current towns, form a temporary raid force, and test the system. However according to the information above they could not use catapults or attack towns with walls, just villages. And all they could really test there is how long it takes to destroy the single flag protecting the village...yay...
So unless I am very wrong -which is possible- I encourage @Prometheus to make it so Vice-Governors can initiate sieges for the rest of this test.
Otherwise it would seem that just about all of the people currently in the alpha can only do armchair testing by theorizing and picking over the described systems.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Thanks for your reply
-
Cool ! I'll be back when the game launches the other worlds !
-
@Hawkshield my anticipation, although this is just my own theorizing, mind you, is that they will give us Beastmen as promised next test, but for testing purposes, just fold them into Syndesia for now.
More than likely, the other worlds will probably not be made available until near the end of the Beta testing run unless a given world has some major mechanical differences to try out.

looking good

Does anybody have a list or can you see sieged cities marked on the map?
Like, if you're a normal-non-Governor player, what's the best/easiest way to participate in defense/attack testing of a city?
-
Any active cities are testing this? Would like to join.

So do I.
-
@OlivePit Actually, a governor cannot do it, it has to be a vice-governor!
