Is being a Demon all around negative?

    So far what I have been reading about Demons is that they start with Negative alignment and seem to suffer some pretty damning negative effects because of this.

    Cons to being a Demon:
    Always susceptible to loot loss on death with full loot PvP always active.
    Cannot farm on the Demon Planet. - This seems to be a pretty substantial loss.

    Pros:
    Can attack anyone you want.

    It seems that players playing Demon are choosing to be at a disadvantage while other players progress through the game with much less resistance.

    Am I wrong for feeling this way? Am I missing some benefits to rolling Demon?
    Do you guys have anything to add to this list?

    Demons aren't suppose to be easy.

    roll a demon then increase your karma so you can get to the fury planet. enjoy your fury ERP.

    @Nekrage What do you mean with cannot farm? Demons will be able to sustain themselves just like any other race. Loot loss on death is active on all 3 planets. (Including Arboreus, but Beastmen can't loot the corpses of their fellow Beastmen there without permission.) Full loot PvP is active on both Tartaros and Syndesia, and also on a part of Arboreus.

    The same goes for the pros. All races can engage in PvP. Demons have an advantage here as they can take advantage of eclipses to invade Syndesia without losing their demonic bonuses.

    Just to clarify, I mean farm as in crop growing. Is that a major disadvantage?

    This is actually a pro (for demon minded players). Those who want hardcore PvP content typically want full loot ruleset without any restrictions.

    The base idea is that different planets offer different content for different playstyles. Every race is meant to play most of the time in their own planet and just make short visits to other planets now and then, if they want to. Therefore, I would say that you should not worrie about the demons because they are just fine, and if the Tartaros environment does not appeal you perhaps the Syndesia with restrictive PvP system could be better option.     I would say that demon, and half beasts are actually more advantageous than playing human.

    In a sense that w/ humans you're almost always locked to playing either both PVP minded but would fall short of a demon, or peace-minded but with a constant threat of war/exile all the time.

    Playing Demon or Half beast however gives you a lot of options as eventually you can work towards a certain alignment and be allowed to live on other planets.

    Being a human will give you access to technology. Something other 2 races will not be able to use.

    We still lack many details, but possibilities here are huge.

    Humans having most talent points, and a slight chance to be able to use cybernetic implants to move talents around -- i'm just speculating here -- (example, eye implant tech, increses your perception by 2, but reduces your charisma by 2), have a chance for most adaptive gameplay.

    Point is, possibilities of technology are huge. Ability to use it in farming, transportation,...

    I wouldn't say humans are at any disadvantage. Onm the contrary...

    They live on most populated world (Syndesia, being "in between" will be the "center of the world"). Guilds will fight for control of teritories and be able to impose their rules.

    Gameplay in Syndesia will imho be much more wide and dynamic then on other 2 planets. On Arboreus and Tartaros you genereally know how things will look. On syndesia it will really depend on player dynamic.

    Also posibilities of technology...

    Just wait. 😉 Don't dismiss humans.

  • @Razvan My wild guess it technology = firearms + steam tech aka "what dwarfs would get in any generic fantasy mmorpg. Devs stated humans will have access to steam powered mounts...this might be just a mount skin however. Anyway firing the arquebus is easier with 5 fingers than with hooves, so my bet is on this.

    @Nekrage Demon races are only one who get access to passives - beastmen get active shapeshift (useless if you dont plan to use them for whatever reason) and human race gets nothing - yes, they get more points, so you can be above average in more fields, but you can get only one natural 20 in stats. Beastmen can get 3 natural 20s, so they can specialise much deeper, but they´re also forced to some roles. Demons can specialise just as well as beastmen, but their passives seem to be always usefull without being forced to have a shapeshift skill occupy one of the 8 precious ability slots.

    And imo the assassin demon seems pretty stong (during night ofc - dont know the actual bonus you get, but it´s free damage and his bonuses on STR and PER are pure offence bonuses so he might be best glass canon backstabber). Tanky brute demon also seems competent (with his passive dmg resist and maximum STR and CON). Looking forward to see them on battlefield 🙂

    There is not much details but a year ago we little bit played with the theme: Steampunk Technology

    The idea of technology is to shorten the power gap between humans and demons/beastmen which have special bonuses and abilities from the start. Therefore, I personally expect to see bionic parts (enchant like stat bonuses) which can be attached to the gear, but perhaps on top of that the technology can offer special abilities like the ones demons and beastmen have.

    Of course humans will in this case likely have to wear only single implant at time and chose what kind of bonus or stat change they want at the moment.

    But if they are able to switch implant like switching a deck, possibilities for adaptive gameplay can be quite nice.

    Humans have more points in use but they do not get the attribute bonuses like others, and in addition, its harder for them to get an attribute over 20 which is said to be somewhat powerful milestone to reach. On top of that there are those special abilities what beastmen and demons have, therefore, that feels more like humans are UP which is why they have access to the technology at first place. I hope you have acknowledged that this was not my suggestion, this is actually what developers have planned. Moreover, we do not know how much the technology offers bonuses, and lastly the whole system sounds quite easy to balance because those current attribute points are not carved in the stone.

    EDIT: Especially the attribute affinities should be taken account when comparing races and attribute distributions together, more can be read from Feature Spotlight #5

    Beastman:

    • get one stat to 25 and rest to average/low or
    • get 3 stats to natural 20 and rest to super low

    Human:
    can get 4x 18 (of which one can be turned into natural 20 any time in the game, further making it 22 with items) or 6x 15 or anything between.

    So beastmen / demons are VERY specialised and once you go race you have to follow its archetype (bear- tank, deer - nuker etc.) and stay like it forever.
    Human race on the other hand can completelly respec on the go from mage to warrior to assassin by just switching gear and redistributing talents at camp. You can go into dungeon like a dedicated healer and crawl out like assassin.

    I´m still convinced that giving human race further improvements (in form of active abilities like beastmen or passives like demons) would make them way too strong. Looking forward to their technology however.
