I think you kind of missed my point, I probably put it poorly. I guess I’ve made an assumption that some bosses will be more difficult than others... and that’s even when you have gear catered towards them. If these bosses have drops similar to less difficult mobs, then the gear crafted from their resources will be intrinsically more rare than the gear crafted from the normal mobs.

However, they’ve said there will be no rare gear. So I don’t really see how they can have difficult bosses that drop resources for crafting new gear.

they said there will be no rare gear drops... it is very specific. Some gear is always gonna be rarer than others. that should be obvious. you can get basic gear in like 10 mins, everyone will make that, but it can take 3 days to make leather armour... more rare... if a boss is didficult to kill, some players will want to farm it more, not less. it might be a good source of income.

I hope they are not trainable because that is when balancing starts to become a problem

it would certainly add time to development. maybe if they are though, it isn't stat based, and more on what skills the tame is more likely to use. You could train it to be defensive, aggressive or supportive perhaps?

Every game of LOL has progression(...)

While a single game in a MOBA has progression, non of that persists to the next match (other than your skill gain as a player).
I was referring to the claim of 'lack of long term profession as a goal of keeping player playing a game'.

you are wrong even there. in LoL, you have progression even outside of the game. back in the day, you unlocked rune slots as you lvld up, and back then, as well as even now, you gain talent points as you lvl up your account. (That is, unless they made it even more horribly confusing since i last played).

@Jetah That is the religious side of charisma... and the meaning behind the word of origin, not the word itself.

      ~charismatic

      /karɪzˈmatɪk/

      Learn to pronounce

      adjective

exercising a compelling charm which inspires devotion in others.

"he was a charismatic figure with great appeal to the public"

      synonyms:charming, fascinating, full of personality, strong in character;

      magnetic, mesmerizing, captivating, bewitching, beguiling, attractive, appealing, alluring, hypnotic;

      magical, glamorous

      "a charismatic leader"~

Having charisma can simply be having a way with words to inspire other, like the "I have a dream" speech by Martin Luther King Jr. Charisma has more than one form, like many words in the english language.

They’ve been pretty clear on progression from the get go.

      https://fracturedmmo.com/feature-spotlight-3-knowledge-system/

You'd have a point if gear didn't have stats, but it does, directly contradicting that link.

~facepalm~ even socks provide minor defence. The horizontal progression is that all gear (specific to type, like say chestplate or greaves) will be the same strength overall as all other gear of the same type. Being naked and having gear equipped are two completely different things. you cant expect a spear to do the same amount of damage as someone's fists. Something to take note of as well... you can make some very basic equipment within 10 minutes easily if you tried. You wont be super strong in any specific way, coz your 'stats' will be spread, rather than focused. But it still fits a baseline for horizontal progression. just 10 minutes... if that. 2 mins if u really speedran it

thanks Captain Obvious... that is the whole 'moving stats around' i commented about. Effort is put in to maintain a min/max build in a real life aspect. What next? you will say you lose intelligence if you don't use your brain?

@Jetah lol. you dont evwn know what charisma means. Charisma isn't beauty. google it. and if you already did, read it properly. Charima is a quality that inspires devotion in others, in a non aggressive manor tthat doesnt involve bribery. And your comment with the whole 'follow power' thing... i already said that. stop skim reading comments. you do it all the time and people are always having to retell you the same stuff over and over.

lol all these people saying if they had played for 40+ hours and got beaten by someone playing for 5 mins... if that happens, you just have no skill, or they got to play the alpha and/or beta and probably have more game time than you, or it will be an evenly matched, fun fight... rather than you wiping the floor with them in 2 seconds.

It is not how long u have played that matters, it is how you spend the time. Heck, when i played Alpha 1 Test 2, i didnt even have armour 40 mins in. I was too busy gathering all the materials i could see to learn what they all where and looked like. And then what they were for. I didnt have any armour for probably 10h, after i decided where i wanted to try and build a house. And if you get beaten by someone that had played for 5 minutes after playing for 40+ hours... why the hell weren't you making healing potions?

@Tuoni not really. we all still die from one bullet to the head, regardless of what we have specialised in. In effect, we all have say 200 stats at birth, and it is where we place them that builds who we are. we dont gain stats, we dont lose them, we only move them around based on what we do in our day to day lives.

@Yitra said in Effect from Taming on mainly PvP:

This might not even been worked out by development, but I was wondering how taming will effect PvP.

      1. Besides open world PvP, where I expect tamed animals to be availalble, I was wondering if you can have them with you during city raids and/or in arena-like PvP (if that's even becomming a thing in Fractured, not sure)

      2. Can they travel with you to other planets, or will it be too stressfull for them 🙂

      3. On a PvE aspect, will they be able to go with you into a (instanced) dungeon ?

      4. Will a tamed beast keep his original stats and "spells" or will they become equalised and for example every spider get a predetermined spell set, so the difference will only be visual.

      5. And as I understand the maximum amount of pets is determined by the Charisma you have. Will this mean a max of (for example) 3-5 pets (Diablo 2 Druid) or 20+ like in a Diablo 2 Summoner.

      Hello everyone,
A player can tame only monsters and animals that are in-game, so there won't be any creature that exists only as a pet. But obviously, not all the existing mobs can be tamed, for example, we will avoid the training of the ones with too much HP or too strong.

For the questions 1,2 and 3, the answer is yes since carrying a pet is a core part of the player's build. You can bring your pet out wherever you want; there won't be any restrictions about that.

For 4 and 5. The pet abilities will be the same as the original tamed animal. For the future, maybe we will add the possibility to tame your pets actively, deciding the spells you want or change some of them as you prefer. But we speak about expansions post-release, there is time 🙂
Everything concerning pets is related to Charisma. One of the modifiers linked to it will be "Animal Handling" and will determine:

      • How many pets you will be able to carry with you (The maximum number will be three pets at the same time, also depending on the strength of them).
      • If you can control it (For example, the monsters will be challenging to tame, the animals instead will be accessible to everyone)

@Kuroi said in Effect from Taming on mainly PvP:

there are instanced dungeons confirmed for fractured? really?

Yes! There will be public instanced dungeons, so, anyone can enter there at the same time and play together.

Why is Charisma the main stat? Why are all mobs affected by it instead of other stats. Maybe some creatures only follow physically strong leaders! Maybe some only follow those with higher intelligence.

coz it makes sense. A strong leader will almost always have a surplus of charisma. It is neccissary to keep morale high and is very good for keeping one's subjects loyal if the following isn't based on brute force (honor of strength, like is popularly displayed in Orc behavior).

    • RE: Min/Max'ing and crafting/fighting

@Farlander what you say is completely inaccurate. stat wise, all of us are born equal. It is how our parents, then teachers specialise us and how willing we are to specialise in anything that makes us stronger. Body builders focus on strength, researchers focus on intelligence, builders balanace both of the two, fortune tellers max out charisma, etc. Our lives are a perfect horizontal progression. If effort isn't put in, our stats all go into laziness instead of strength, intelligence, charisma, etc. You will never get a farmer to sit still. They have a laziness stat of 0.

In terms of what people can do in game, the majority of the progression will be learning how to take on everything from different ways. Learning the ways of the land of Fractured. Even in games with vertical progression, people get bored and run out of things to do. there is still a cap, regardless. most games, spend $50,000 and u will have nothing to do within a week or two.

@Roccandil i think they r just gonna have a base stats cap. i dont see why you would get penalised like that by having already maxed out in one stat, to equip a piece of gear that increases it... then have it do nothing coz u were already maxed.

I don't care who i have to kill for them to take my gold, I want one!

i dont think it would be easy for the devs to make, considering it is meant to be a sort of decoration. But that would be amazing!!

That could be further reinforced by the knowledge system perhaps even. you need to craft a certain amount of things, before you can make the next tier of crafting structure? And maybe the higher the tier of the crafting aparatus, the faster it is to craft lower tier items on.

I would like to see a mill which players can use for making a different kind of flours and powders used in crafting. Milling grains, bones, horns, herbs, fruits etc. used for in cooking and alchemy for example.

Also a blacksmith's workshop and forge would be quite obvious choise..

the mill could even be used to grind up powders for poisons 😮 i like the idea of workshop upgrading too. you are able to destroy items on your plot, so you could destroy your old crafting table when you make a more advanced one and dont need it anymore perhaps.
