I want this type of 'environment interaction'!

Couldn’t a rule be coded to prevent multiple players from targeting the same exact spot.Yes but a lag can be a B... among many other issues. Sync could be very troublesome.
Now imagine 100 players or more battle over who will modify terrain in same time. Each player having different lag, each using different modification.It "could be done" but making this right would take huge amount of development resources, and even then glitches and issues could be found through game play that would require further fixing, depending on how it would react with multiple other things (other spells - water freezing ie., if we get ships in the future, fishing in those spots, using spell on edge areas, etc.).
I simply do not thing it's worth the trouble. It just brings up too many other issues, and it's a development resource hog.

but i want more than just a freeze the water. I want to control the very ground itself!!!!
@Gothix
So it's possible.. got it.

Not sure if this is possible without voxel technology (think Minecraft) and the only MMO that has tried it was Landmark. (At least the only MMO that looked as good as that renderer). Landmark was a beautiful game and the building was amazing, but I literally had to buy a new computer to play it.

Altering the ground mesh is... very possibly out of scope for a company this size.

I have a feeling that trying to do that fluid dynamics stuff on a server with a lot of rivers and such would be a really big problem. It just needs a lot of data crunching. I'm thinking maybe in 7-8 years it will work decently with online games.
As to generic transformation stuff, it is possible. However, it will also usher in a bunch of new issues and potential problems. Terraforming is rare in games due to the very issues that come with ground mesh alterations, such as AI and interaction maps updating.
It is do-able, but maybe not the best use of resources just yet. There's a lot of interesting potential in tech down the road, and I think we are approaching the point where more and more world interaction will be a thing (as it becomes easier to work with the hardware, and there's some software to look back upon as to how to do things). Just... not there yet.

@jetah то что ты хочешь создаст огромную проблему , сам подумай что это безграничные баги и их использование . иначе говоря то что ты захотел никогда не в ведут

@zagzag
I need English. At work and on mobile so it’s difficult to translate.

-
@gothix and how many people the devs want to exclude based on hardware power and internet access speed.

Maybe it would be reasonable with temporary effects. Just like the freeze spell freezes the water just for spell duration it could be that rising or lowering earth would work for a time
-
@tulukaruk
that could work too. although i'd much prefer permanent movement. It'd allow those types of casters to setup defenses for cities or what not and it'd allow those casters to break it! maybe the melee could use tools to do the same thing.
-
@jetah then what you want will create a huge problem, think for yourself that these are limitless bugs and their use. in other words what you want will never be
-
@zagzag
It’s possible for this type of system to be added later. We don’t know if this tech will become standard in MMOs at a later time.
-
I think that is sort of similar to what they have in mind.
-
what if a whole server decided to use water than ( ocean of water ) I know that won't.happen but i wanted to say it
-
If it could be done, that would be a beautiful feature.
-
@dj35
to flood someplace?as a demon, I'll allow it.. however, land is above water. so you'd have to flood them from a spring near a mountain!

I don't know about actual walls that last forever, but it would be cool to have a divine power that can put a shield over your campsite for maybe a few days, but could only be used like every week.

Few days every week, lmao. That's like half the time. xD
(also remember, there is a whole planet designed for safety if that's your concern)

In small scale environments I could see it. Outside of that I just don't think there's a reasonable way for people to achieve that kinda tech on the MMO level. Especially for a smaller group.
The ability to do things like freezing water or what have you is enough for me personally. They've also shown off the opportunity to create temporary barriers and the likes. Shocking water n' stuff too. That should keep things varied enough as it is. Making the environment quite the large factor in many scenarios it seems.
