Fractured Content Pills - Week 43, 2018

@kralith
First, you run a 20 on your dice and you let the torch go on your foot, meantime torch's hot-ashes find there way between your skin and your armor... you need to strip fast ! After that, you take some seconds to look around you... and you see the forest near you starting to fire
-
The cycles real nice!
-
I really like how I can see the shadows of the trees and the shimmer of the water adjusting during the cycle.
-
@prometheus as no one said that yet:
Hello back to you from community
-
@prometheus Oh, ok, I suppose it's faster to render than fluids ^^
@Kralith The weaker your knowledge in torches is, the bigger the torches you will have
-
@esher sounds as it is in real life
-
@kralith true

(...)innate ability, and night sigh is also a spell (...) one that summons a globe of light(...)
Is the amount of visible light going to have in game effects (e.g. influence aiming with ranged weapons), or is that for 'players convenience'?
-
I really like how dark night gets, good choice. You could really create some unique experiences with this and the orientation of the camera.
-
@vortech So long as they find a method to keep people from altering the night brightness in various ways, sure. However, experience with recent efforts toward really dark nights in PvP games has shown that to be... tough at best.
Ideally there should be downsides to things like not using light at night as well, beyond just not seeing as much detail. Otherwise, using light is nothing but a "Hey there, come attack me!" indicator in a PvP area (whether as a trap or a person being an easy target). I think slower movement to account for the difficulties could be part of that (which is pretty realistic even on a good moonlit night in the mountains high elevation). I'd also like to see things like beasts that hunt at night being a potential source of problems there. I don't want it too punishing either, though, or else it becomes a "Well, go afk until night is over" situation that does the game no good.
I do like nights that are darker, and offer some problems with regard to doing things without a light source... but those concerns, especially with PvP, are no minor matter. I'll take lighter nights if I must to alleviate those problems.
-
@Kralith you could always cast a fireball at overpowered Rul0r, and let him light up an area around you.
-
@jairone
The fact is if you attack someone with a torch, you could assume he drop his torch to take shield and weapon, so no more light.... you could have the first blood but not the kill since you will be also in the dark...
But if you have a night vision skill is an another story
-
Looking good! Will we be seeing more of these "content pills" leading up into Alpha?
-
@gothix ohhh you mean my special personal torch? Yeah sounds fair enough

But if you have a night vision skill is an another storyPerhaps you could wield a sword in one hand, and a torch in other. But no shield then, so your defenses would be worse (no blocking and no shield skills). Perhaps you could dodge a lot if you invest in DEX.
Or you could drop a torch on the ground and it would still burn, and a static area would be lit up.
-
It'd be interesting if perception affected how well you can see at night. Having very high PER can be an alternative to using torches/magic.
-
Shadow Demons should have darkvision!
-
Shadow Demons should have night vision and increase the movement speed at night.
-
Hey, Beastmen should have night vision, too, at least the tiger and wolf kin.
Maybe humans will be able to gather carrots to help...
-
@gofrit The problem in general that I have seen is that torches are merely a highlight of where the people who are ignorant are, unless there are actually big disadvantages to moving through the dark without one.
The big advantage to the truly dark screen, is that people work around that to see when it is not intended. Which makes it pointless.
So my note is that BOTH of those problems need addressed, or the entire idea of a dark night and light sources becomes rendered nothing but something to abuse.
