Fishing in Fractured
-
Although its another 50,000€ till we reach that goal, I have some thoughts on it. If/when fishing is in fractured it would be great to have a really satisfying system for it. What do i mean by that? Well, in a lot of mmo's fishing can feel extremely grindy and completely unessisary.
If the Dev's can find a rewarding/satisfying way to implement fishing into the game without it feeling too grindy and/or annoying, I would love too see it happen! If anyone has any tips/ideas on how they could do so please feel free to share.

Fishing is a fun way to spend free time and when the best spots are in dangerous areas it can be a real sport. I hope it makes it in regardless of its spot on the cash goal list. It just adds a bit of depth to a game that is not combat related and can be an interesting mechanic, so many ways to do it, from just random chance to skill based crafting of lures and exotic bait to skill use of lures and scents and fish attractants. I have been fond of several types of fishing in games, some of them have been quite memorable.
-
@mazikar Totally agree with you, you have some great ideas. ^_^

my phone died...
I'd love for fishing to be more than a fishing pole.
I want to see cast nets, troll lines. then eventually we get boats, where we can pole fish then cast fish then boat troll, then boat fishing nets.

I like fishing mini-games, as long as they aren't too demanding, at least initially. You want to fish a whale in the ocean, sure, make it punishing - but if it's a minnow in a mill pond, do not make this difficult! XD
-
I hope it will be more then click and get a random fish/item. Being a stretch goal I think it will get a minigame. What I would like to see is something that demands some skill from the player not only from the character
Of course I cross my fingers that we'll get it

Fishing has always been one of my most favorite additions to MMOs. So much so I really can't live without it.
-
Seems like it would be a good opportunity to add a tradeskill around it to make nets (as @jetah mentioned), lures, poles, line, etc. Maybe we can get our own version of Bait Masterson to start the journey of learning how to fish
-
One interesting thing is that the description on the funding page says: Bait and cast your hooks for fishes and treasures. So it sounds like fishing will yield more than fish. Crafting materials maybe?
-
Fishing is good thing, something to do while in between sieges. AFK fishermen are always fun to kill.
-
@needlehawk perhaps.
-
@jetah That would be awesome!
-
@gothix Why would you want to kill a pour fisherman? What did they do to you?
-
It'd be interesting if stats played into what kind of fish you can catch or at least make it easier to catch certain types of fish. High strength people can catch really big fish, dex can catch fast fish, con can catch very resilient fish, int can catch magic fish, perception can catch rare fish, and charisma can catch fish that are bait shy. Can even have fish that require combos of stats, like a fast big fish that needs dex and str to catch.
-
@target
i'd prefer not.would prefer bait be used to fish for specific fish and let attributes be ignored for once.
-
@jetah @Target Do you guys think it would be good to use baits and have some areas that are more dangerous but yield rarer/unique fish? Maybe some baits are hard to craft/find but are really good.
-
@rocky
all places should be dangerous except outside of the safe places on the pve planet.Bait shouldn't give yield but different fish. Now bait could have some durability so that one type of bait may be used longer than others but it would be neat to have to get bait (shovel for some type of worms, net for crawfish, net for dragonflies, maybe even using caught fish as bait, or similar). This would give the opportunity for a bait profession to exist.

The only thing I would say about fishing would be that it should follow common Fractured resource principles. Each planet should have different fish.
Otherwise good aligned fishermen would have huge advantage simply fishing safe on Arboreus.
Syndesia and Tartaros should have own types of fish, not available on Arboreus.

Of course. Even better if there would be a different fishing systems on Arboreus and Tartaros. Arboreus could have that slow'n'stedy (easy but takes time) system kind of like normal fishing and Tartaros could have more of a "battle" fishing (fast but hard) ie. like in warframe. I know that's probably too much to ask for

@tulukaruk at Tartaros fish would have a chance to "catch you".
