How big is the world? By square km

No idea atm, but even if it is measured in km, the scaling for size is vastly different across games and how they create a feeling of distance. A regular player's screen might be 20m wide/high in some games while 40m in others. It happens all the time and I don't really think devs scale the character/world to real size so... Plus you can have a whole ton of barren land and call your game "large" in terms of world size, but 80% of the area will almost never be visited because they look like auto generated land with nothing.
-
I think you could take an another measure than "km" or "hours". You could measure with the knowledge points.
In fact, a part of KP is dedicated in the exploration. If you take a small world, the exploration dedicated points will be too small for explorer players and the part of "knowledge quest"/"Identify item" points too bigs. If you take a big world, the exploration points will be too big, relative too others points... so it will be a world where the KP points will be probably a key to his larger. you could see a prometheus post here

Tartaros should probably be measured in how many times you'll die before you explore it all
-
Would be interested in finding out roughly how large each planet is.
-
will we be able to do the turn if we go straight an never go back ?
-
@muffsauce what we know is:
- Syndesia is the biggest planet
- Arboreus is the second biggest planet
- Tartaros is the smallest planet (smaller than syndesia and arboreus)
Yours sincerely,
Midoriya

@midoriya
https://fracturedmmo.com/feature-spotlight-2-universe-planets-travels/Arboreus is the largest planet of the Elysium Ring, with a surface twice as wide as that of Syndesia – although the area of continents above sea level is roughly equivalent to that of the other planets.
Tartaros is the smallest of all the planets of the Elysium Ring. Notwithstanding its size, its walkable surface is similar in area to the one of Arboreus and Syndesia
The article implies that all the planets will have similarly sized playable areas.

@Muffsauce the world(s) will be scaled based on the amount of players expected for each testing phase - something we can do relatively easily thanks to all the work we've put on our procedural generation tools.
Anyway, worlds will be large in general, because travel and exploration are an important part of gameplay, but there will also be clear hotspots and locations of interest (aside from towns) for players to gather - the world won't feel empty unless you really want to go in the middle of nowhere

When the game finally releases, the worlds size won't change anymore, right? As exploration is a primal part of the game, the players should get the chance to visit 'all' of it. When the size varies it may be possible to travel "to the lake behind those mountains" and this time no even the mountains are there any longer. This would not really create a feeling of a immersive world
The real questions has not been answered though. How bug is 'huge' in your terms? How many days/weeks/months will the really active players spend to visit all places of one planet?
-
Since we got in Alpha 1 the continent Myr, it seems for me, that a world will have many continents.
These can be added easily, without destroying/messing up the existing ones.
-
As of version 0.3.0, Myr is 60km2 - it definitely feels larger than it was and took a bit to run the length of it. Not sure if this is its final size but that's the last information I've seen. I the news article regarding this (https://fracturedmmo.com/alpha-1-map-pledge-integration/) it was listed as 40km2, but 0.3.0 patch notes have it at 60km2.

Tartaros is smaller than the other two. so it'll be much faster to explore. My Demons will take a while to explore the beastkin planet because I can only get there via invasions and am limited to 30 minutes. so i either explore or try to fight for that duration.
-
I'm more concerned with areas looking and feeling unique from one another at the moment. I don't want to enter and leave a biome without ever having a reason to enter another one.
-
they'll feel unique for sure although the areas where they meet might feel similar.
the gear system may prefer you stick to certain biomes but the knowledge system may persuade you to explore!

The size of the planets are different, but the description of each planet implies that they should all have the same amount of playable area.
-
@Target
i expect Tartaros to be much smaller than the other 2.

This is right if Feature Spotlight #2 is still up to date.
