I want this type of 'environment interaction'!
-
Just saw this on Imgur and thought it'd be amazing to have in Fractured. Some type of magic (earth, wind, water maybe) or physical could change the shape of rivers or make ponds.
-
It'd be cool to be able to make a land bridge through a river with a system like this in place, I think it's pretty unlikely though.
-
The bridge idea is cool, but what about making a little hill or something to break line of sight for skillshots in PvP? Like a little natural barrier? Could add a really big layer of skill to the combat!
-
@gynz
could build a dam to overflow a river!
-
Sure it would be nice to have games that look like an artist has created the map but that can be altered by players or change over time. No doubt that technology will exists in the future.
-
Skilled archers could shoot an arrow with a rope attached to get across.
Magic users could freeze the water.
Priests with high faith could temporarily walk on water.Warriors could... start swearing and stay on the same side. xD
-
@gothix
and earth magic user (shaman?) could move the soil so that the warrior and others can pass over.
-
Or even some interactions like in Divinity: Original Sin. Enemy standing in oil? Fling something flaming. Standing in water? Watch out for electrical magics!
-
@warpuppy
um, we already have that. the videos show electricity in water making a nice AOE effect.
-
the problem is that tracking that sort of interaction is cpu expensive, and would slow a connection to a crawl, especially when fluid dynamics aren't a thing in game atm - no swimming or sailing (yet, at least), so this is a dynamic system for a static object, from the player's perspective - cool, but not a good resource use. Much easier to do the water freezing and electricity on a static system that is manipulable, instead
-
@therippyone
it would be server calculated and they have multiple CPUs. the client just has to render it.
-
@jetah sure, but that's still passing all that particle data to the client to render, on a finite connection, in real time. That's a LOT of data, even if it only passes the immediate area
-
I doubt they'll use a engine that could do this..
-
TheRippyOne is unfortunatrly right...
to make that sort of interaction you need a very strong connection or a godlike cpu.
and the game is design for small configuration not for Nasa computer.
-
Even with low PC requirements it will be impossible to render it in real time for all people.
-
@suruq
the client would just display what the servers calculations are. I don't see needing a 1080ti or 2080ti for that.the person that created the app said it works great on their Surface Book and the gif is from their single GPU (I didn't see any mention on the exact model).
just one gpu. runs well on my surface book 1

I say a strong connection OR a good gpu

The issue will not be if one or two players start modifying environment.
Fractured will however (due to Spatial OS) allow a huge amount of players to play near each other. Issue may arise when major amount of players attempt to start modifying the same spots on map in same time, and the least problem would be a slowdown of a game, because more sever issues could arise glitching a terrain with huge amount of players trying to modify it in different way all in same time.
-
@gothix
Couldn’t a rule be coded to prevent multiple players from targeting the same exact spot.The video is pretty fast but that doesn’t mean it has to be that fast for Fractured. A bridge could take a while to build so that you’ll want to move the minimum amount to get troops across.
-
I believe that we do have the ability to freeze rivers to make bridges. It was in one of the spotlights, but I forget which one.
