Suggestion: Disable ability for fresh accounts to post
-
I think it's a good time to implement this or we are going to have constant Chinese spam from now on.
I would suggest to make freshly created forum accounts not be able to post anything for first 3 days, and need to have posts approved by moderator before becoming visible for first 7 days.
-
@gothix no, this is a bad idea, as some people want to actively participate in the forum from the first day + perform tasks for daily activity.

Well they can at least make fresh account posts not visible until approved by moderator, until account gets flagged as a trusted account.
Account would get flagged as trusted after few days, and some amount of normal posts.
-
it will have to be community effort. if one post gets flagged, it should be then taken down and the account banned for an x amount of days. i've been flagging all those related post as spam.
-
@gothix That would need more than just Specter as Moderator who cares for it all the time.
But it could be helpful, if there where a Captcha for the first 3 days for posting, because the automatically posted Spam would get prevented very well.
-
It would be nice to have an additional moderator. I don't see any problem with this.
Of course, captcha might also help a bit.
-
I guess it is too early for getting a bigger Moderation Team.
But yes, at some point it makes sense.
I still suggested it to Prometheus to get some of the trusted community members to help with moderation, at least when the Alpha starts.
-
complete cut off for three days can chase away many newlings
its better to limit the ability to 1 or 2 posts per person
-
@Gothix that'd be very annoying for legitimate users - I personally hate it when I find a forum with that sort of restriction
I've just installed some anti-spam measures, let's see how that works out first.
-
@gothix If spam is the concern then a login captcha should be enough.
-
I haven't seen any spam threads/posts at all. So whatever the mods are doing now, works fine.
I recommend against any kind of quarantine. I only created an account when I wanted to post something. I had been lurking around here before that. It would have been a real bummer if I had to wait three days or if my post had to be manually approved. It's treating everyone as a potential criminal.
-
So far we have gotten so little spam that it doesn't bother me but in the long run having some countermeasures is a good thing. Let's see first how well Prometheus' antispam works before adding bothersome systems like captcha
-
Ha, the new Spamengine is working well, when i wanted to change a just posted entry, because of grammar, it was flaging my post as Spam

Same thing here. I don't call that 'working well' though. I'm going to have to learn to proofread.
Right now, on the bottom of my screen there is a red text-balloon going round and round. It drives me crazy!
-
@jozef okay the βwellβ was not meant thaaat serious
-
The anti-spam measures are working really well, but we'll have to watch for false positives. If it's too strict, it might block genuine posts.
-
@specter i guess you can create a nice whitelist for verified accounts

Not sure if Kralith should go on white list though. I saw some suspicious German posts, and since I don't understand German it all looks suspicious to me.
-
@gothix hehe
Itβs all gibberish!!! - a befriended Streamer once said about our german talking in the discord of our international SWL cabale.

Do not do this, it will kill newbies like me from joining the community. Much better to allow the community to flag potential spam. Gain bonus points for flagging spam. Lose points if you flag legitimate posts as spam.
