Meaningful Guilds?

  • TF#3 - ENVOY

    Hi!

So, first of all, I'm loving the concept of this game, for lots of reasons.
One of them is the whole player-driven element.

Now I've noticed lots of games with this feature, and they all, in my opinion, accomplish this partly.
That is, they act like economy is all about goods.

Selling your hard earned Goblin ears to someone who will use them to make love potions, for that person to sell those to someone else, is interesting enough for a standard mmorpg.
However, I was wondering if it would be possible for a game this original to implement actual services in the player-driven economy as well.

Imagine actual functioning police or guard forces, carriage drivers, hirelings
(ayee check my guild ;p), landlords and teachers?
Hell, maybe even entertainment focused sellers like actors or writers?

Imagine guilds not being about 'The sickest PvP metas' or 'Rp guild only 12+ make profile first' or whatever! Just guilds to actually make money in an immersive way by delivering services to other players!

I feel like these wouldn't be possible without some help from the developers, considering that without some kind of system for payment they'd be too easy to scam and therefore not reliable.

These would be so, so incredibly cool!

Anyone else have thoughts, ideas or inspiration for these kinds of systems?
maybe some services I missed that you think would be crucial?

    I'd love to discuss!

@wolefie Well, among the outstanding guilds will definitely be guilds: traders, mercenaries, miners, artisans. Recently, we discussed the courier Guild, which would also fit into the game if it were necessary to transport a very large number of goods from one planet to another.

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

    @wolefie

those are RP guilds. A normal person will want to win fights.

we've suggested eve online style contracts. It sounds more like what you're wanting.

  • TF#7 - AMBASSADOR

Im sure guilds will be different and meaningful

  • TF#6 - DIPLOMAT

If you're looking for a meaningful guild, look out for Glims Mercenaries. We've just reached 17th on the guild leaderboards and still growing. We'd love to have you, to fight for what is right. (as long as the price is right)

PS: thanks for the shoutout in your guild description, WoLeFiE!

@WoLeFiE Merc guilds are all over the forums. As for actors and writers, that's getting a little too close to real life for my liking. People are comparing this to Albion Online, and I watched a quick trailer that went over what that game is about. You might want to check it out, gives you an idea of how guilds might function in Fractured.

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

Yep, sounds like a good idea.

I'm planning to RP as a storyteller and travel with Glims Mercenaries. That way I can fight, explore and still chronicle the adventures of the group.

Having something like a teacher's guild or a storytellers guild would be awesome.

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

    Skill trees for guilds?

  • TF#8 - GENERAL AMBASSADOR

I also hope for a system that makes landlords viable.

  • TF#4 - EMISSARY

So I read your post and will dismiss everything I read except when you mentioned teachers because I just had a passing thought that it would be really cool if characters could pass on their knowledge with other characters for some gold or service. Of course, they would most likely have to put in a system where a "teacher" can only teach so many people a week so the progression system would not be messed up.

  • TF#3 - ENVOY

@muker Right, those seem like they would diversify the guilds alot.

My point is, would they be just a collection of people who like mining and talk about it, or would it be like guilds in real life where they have rules, where they make access to potential customers easier, would they be able to set up actual trademarks or businesses? And not doing all of this because it's fun and immersive, but also because it's effective?

  • TF#3 - ENVOY

@jetah Nah, RP guilds mean using ineffective means to feel more like your character. I'd like guilds to be specialised, so that the professions performed by the people in these guilds are easier and more profitable to perform in these guilds.

It's hard to explain how a game would simulate this, but that's why I wanted to discuss the subject.

  • TF#3 - ENVOY

@whoatethecat Np dude! I really wanted to join your guild, but beastmen just don't seem interesting for me.
Maybe we'll even be able to co-operate, if I manage to recruit any members lol.

  • TF#3 - ENVOY

@zidroc I'm talking about the functionality of these guilds, not whether they exist. And yeah, the gameplay seems to be similar to albion online, but that game is such a meta whorehouse as well, doesn't interest me tbh. Not a lot of place for originality.

  • TF#3 - ENVOY

    @cronykil Dope!

How cool would it be if players could give quests!
Imagine you, as a storyteller, opening up secret stories of areas for players, like an NPC would in standard games!

These kinds of things would be so awesome.

Patrolling bandits because they'll receive money from their boss for doing it.

Hireable caravans actually being profitable for both parties!

Mannn these would be so awesome.

  • TF#3 - ENVOY

    @vollmond That seems interesting!

A guild that has players that spend lots of time mining, would get better quality ores, tools or whatever.

I'll think more about this, seems interesting!

  • TF#3 - ENVOY

@kapier Haha I see you have plans, you shady you! ๐Ÿ˜›

I see this sort of stuff kicked around in pre-game communities all the time and I can see why; people get excited about the possibilities and spit-balling what they might be able to do. In reality, however, people don't want second jobs. Their time with the game will probably be very light, and they won't spend it standing on a street corner, pretending to be a cop that no one else in the game will even formally recognise as a cop. Just one example, I know. I fully accept that some might. But in a niche game like this, nowhere near a majority will. Indeed, the devs are developing for people who are time poor as the average gamer for this style of game is older and time poor.

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

    What @Canterbury said.

It's a game and people do not want permanent responsibilities. Service guild may last for a few days while it feels fun to players, after that it will start breaking apart with people doing their own thing and just playing the game.
