looks decent for pre-alpha, but tbh not what I imagined!

(...)I noticed that there is friendly fire (yahoo!). In case grouping is possible, is friendly fire possible for players within the group?(...)
I'm not sure, but I think we have a different definition of 'friendly fire'? When arrows/ice beam/ice spray/AoE jump damage would have 'hit' the other player, he didn't seem to take damage, did he? Only once targeted, he took damage and that's not friendly fire, that's intentionally attacking (though with a 'miss-click')?
Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to have friendly fire (it's way too easy without, as you could see in the video just walking through killing everything in the way), but I thought the PvE/PvP thread mentioned friendly fire won't exist?
-
oh fuck!

@Prometheus
How is the PvP gameplay?? I haven't found any related information..I wish I were tagged in every post with the words "PvP"
Can I have a preview?
-
@phaethonas I can answer some of these questions:
2: Yes, grouping will be possible.
5: You will be able to mine rocks and chop trees. Also, various skills will interact with the environment. (Ice freezes water, fire burns things, etc).
6: Fractured's movement is mouse-based. No WSAD.
8: You can read more about procedural generation in the first State of the Game and the sprint recaps.

How long did I wait for!

Really would like to see less chaotic movement and animation. Now it looks like the characters do not interact with the outside world, do not have any weight or inertia, and because of this movement is not realistic. The same applies to the animation of the battle.
Our animations are very rough indeed - they're all going to be remade from scratch in the future!

The game looks fluid enough but wee need to see how the engine will work with loads of people around.
We have a lot of work to do in this regard too - it will be mostly carried out during Alpha testing phases
- You can zoom but not change the camera angle. The world is built so you don't need it.
- You can group and that removes friendly fire too. We might reconsider this decision though.
- There is full collision between any type of creature (players included, in the same party and not). SpatialOS makes it possible! However, we might tweak the rules here too. Alpha testing will tell whether it's really feasible on a large scale or not.
- Yes, they are. That's "just" gathering though, only a part of what "fully interactable environments" means. A lot is related to how you can use the environment in combat - setting it on fire, freezing it, and so on.
- Click to move - sometimes keeping the mouse button down, others pathfinding. If you ever played ARPGs like POE or Diablo - it's that!
- Swimming is not in the picture so far I'm afraid.
- In house, although it partly relies on external code libraries.

Really love the video, just a question will it be possible to loot items or ressources from goblin camps or ruins ? @Prometheus
In the video it was not possible but in the game it will be!

wow this is great : ))

For a pre-alpha state game. It looks actually very promising, I am very excited to try this game out in the future. Really hyped for the pre-alpha draw now! I would love to get try it out.

@prometheus Yes, I imagined and forgive me but that did not want to be a criticism. Rather a warning. In the last few years I have been testing games and I am increasingly disappointed by the development priorities of the various gaming houses. In my humble opinion the game engine should be among the first priorities. I would like to avoid someone telling me (after I bought a kickstarter game) that the engine will be improved / fixed only in the final stages of the beta. It's much better to have a game to test that works but with few features rather than a game full of features but that is not playable. It happened to me more than once that developers continued to add features (mostly buggy) rather than improve the game engine. Said this I'm happy to hear that is something planned for the alpha .
-
Ohhh shiny. Thanks for that, devs!!
I haven't watched the video... yet. After so long, I sort of want to keep it for the right time and place to enjoy! XD

HOLYA CRAP!
@Prometheus you're attractive now?!
When did this happenHas to maintain hipster dev status.
@Prometheus Pretty impressed by how good the game looks even in pre alpha state. Is there a twitch link somewhere floating around for fractured?
-
It really reminds me old sandbox mmorpgs, good feels

if you ignore player collision then people/groups will become 1 death ball. Think of an RTS where you can move 100 units on top of each other. If there's player collision then creating choke points is useful, death balls are less; also still deadly, and would cause tactics to be necessary (at least I'm hoping).

Will we be able to freeze the river and cross over?
-
@darian they said that on the hope page, we need to wait abit till see it prolly.

Looks fucking awesome!

Can you 'define' friendly fire? Normally, the term would indicate that if a third person gets in the line of fire between you and the target, the ray/projectile/hit no longer hits the target, but that third person. How could you do that in a game with free targeting (you can freeze a river, so you need to be able to aim at said river...), while keeping your 'only consensual PvP - mantra'? If I can aim anywhere and deal damage to anything in that line (friendly fire), I could easily kill a Beastman as Beastman?
