Ocean Exploration?
-
Hi,
I am new so. And i am doing my quests aswell, but while i am at it, why not ask a question.
Will there be ships to sail, and oceans/seas to explore?
Thanks for reading, and have a nice day:)
-
@Stealthz Not at launch, but maybe in a future expansion.
-
and i want a playable Naga race for the Demon planet!!!!!
I actually think of archeage when I think of oceans now. Being able to get a boat and dive underwater to explore and farm was amazing then there was the naval combat! I'd love to see something like that in Fractured.
-
Ocean exploration is going to be more limited in a top-down view than it was in Arhceage tho.
Anyway, did they confirm or infirm plans for other (sub)races? I wanna see undead, with bonus piercing/disease defense, but vulnerability to crushing-type damage and if we get aoe heals, they get damaged by these (which would make them strong in small scale pvp, but vulnerable in zvz).
-
@Razvan So far human race is a viable choice, as you can become lich (same as demonยดs transformation into angel and beastman into abomination). Statwise not much is know about lich however.
-
In addition to ocean exploration I'd like to see an underground level put in to explore
-
-
Driving around In a steam punk ship pirating could be fun

@Farlander said in Ocean Exploration?:
(...) I'd like to see an underground level(...)
That's likely far easier to implement as well, although granted I have yet to bother looking into how SpatialOS works, simply going by the top down view.
-
@Logain Isnยดt "underground" simply any dungeon you enter? And devs (Prometheus) stated there will be dungeons.
-
You can fish in the rivers for start and dream about ocean.
Dreams may come true.
-
@Gothix I mean, you can also fish in the ocean, just not from a boat hehe.
-
@asspirin Underground to me means something like the Underworld in D&D. An entire area that can be settled.
-
caverns can be made into 'worlds' like the surface is. just place it in a different instance (we'd have a load screen) and make the ceiling pretty high so that the camera would work. they could do smaller sizes the further you go down while exposing the fractured planets in ways at the 'map' edge.
-
So you basically ask for a new planet (from a development point of view).
Small instanced* underground caves / dungeons should be a thing tho. They could also have different roles: gathering (mining area, bear/wolf cave), usual pve dungeon (giant ant or spider colony with a couple of mini bosses), world boss (some sort of underground snake).*by instanced I mean that you have to wait for a loading screen, but anyone can enter and gank you
-
water is a good medium which is much different than being on land. i mentioned instances, or loading screens, only because i'm not sure how the engine can handle 'underground' caverns. so by turning it into a load screen, they can make it like an open zone area with little lightning.

@Jetah I was mostly talking about Farlander's comment https://forum.fracturedmmo.com/topic/9741/ocean-exploration/13
"Underground to me means something like the Underworld in D&D. An entire area that can be settled." -> this is pretty much the equivalent of creating a new planet in terms of how much work the devs have to put for this feature.
-
The ability to explore (gathering ?) in an ocean-like environment would indeed be adding something to the whole game experience.
First by crafting a small raft, then maybe bigger ships, but where to go to? The other races are on a different planet. So please no space ships!
An underground area where you could settle, wouldn't that be just a darker variation of living above ground? Who would like to live there without the sun on your face? Unless we get a Mole, Goblin and/or dwarven race
Underground mining, on the other hand, would make sense though to me, maybe with some larger mobs living there and protecting the resources.

the planets/fractures are procedurally generated. i'm not sure how much manual work is added in for refining the landscape or placing city center spots (or if they need to be placed).

Assets are a huge part of the work and it would likely depend how well the engines (Unity and SpatialOS) can handle this with the current camera. But since they are planning dungeons and asteroids, I would at least consider a larger underground area 'viable'. Handling water does require a lot of new mechanics though.
