Anti-Hack/Cheat/Bot
-
HI,
I have not been catching up much with the news and updates of Fractured, (even missed a few beta/alpha releases - tbh not even sure how far it's gone) but I was wondering if the game will have some sort of anti-cheat/hack/bot system to prevent such stuff from happening that would of course cause the game to lose its fun.
-
Devs would be foolish not to have some kind of system in place. Hackers, of course, are gonna hack... but I pray that the consequences for being caught exploiting/hacking/bot/cheating are immediate loss of game privileges, no matter how much $$ a player has invested.
-
name any online game that doesn't have one.
-
@CodeTsilon The devs will have something in place to deter cheats/bots.
-
@Jetah I'm playing an MMO called Arcfall. It doesn't have one.
-
Best antihack system is alredy the btp model with an high box price. Anyway botter\hacker aren't even born for now..
-
@Pwnstar
Actually most games keep their security as secret as possible for obvious reasons.
It would not be smart to tell the very people your trying to catch how to avoid being caught or what system they need to hack into

and its pretty easy to find cheats for it, whether they work or not i'm not sure because i refuse to try them.
depends really. WoW has plenty of bots because they know they'll make more than they'll spend. that and they'll use compromised accounts to advertise.
@Specter
If the team can track every time traded then it'd be easy to find the accounts doing the work vs just the trade and advertising accounts. i know you wont admit if you can and that's fine.

Are we allowed to know how much of the game's mechanics (rough guesstimate) is going to be server permission and how much client prediction?

Why do we need to know?

Why do we need to know?
Because it allows for a much better approximation of the level of activity we might expect to see with cheating than a simple 'something in place to deter'?

When diablo 3 was released the devs said it was uncrackable, it probably would have been, if it wasnt for the development team saying that, because all the hackers with something to prove jumped on board, and hacked diablo
Nothing they do will stop bots hacking, policing the server is the best way with basic protection to stop noob program runners.
Gms banning bot spamming so they have to rebuy the game, and having a Ingame hacking bot report system that gets actively policed, imo is the best way to deter them
-
The more you can do with "ingame" earned money, the more cheating and bots you will see. Create a closed economy where it is not possible to transfer ingame money between characters will cut down on that.
Create an old school economy where you have to trade goods. 4 eggs for 1 wolf hide or something

Yes, but in my defense I've been hacking that game for 2 months and haven't been caught. I know it's against the rules because other people have been banned. But those people were caught via player reporting. The GM doesn't have time to watch everyone. I don't think ArcFall has any anti-cheat software.
-
hopefully it doesn't become a case like Tree of Savior... it was buy to gain early access, and there were hundreds of bots within only 2 days... They implemented a system like a week later that would instantly ban accounts if a post was made that was gold selling or whatever, but it still wasn't 100% effective for quite a while.
-
Anti hack systems are good to have, as long as they aren't rootkits.
I'm not giving anyone full control of my PC, not even game companies.

I think you misunderstood my question and my intention. I did not ask them to say 'we are superior in our ways to deter cheats' (I specifically didn't ask about bots, since that is not prevented through server authentication of actions), but asked for a rough guesstimate.
-
Cheating is one way to kill a game. When I finally left UO the hacking was awful. Unfortunately there are those people who canβt play a game well so they find a shortcut to get ahead

This is a good point. Making the game less attractive from cheaters and gold sellers point of view makes things much more easier at first place. It is ofc hard to get totally rid of these guys, but developers can make their life easier with gamedesign. Imo DS has designed well this part and there is not going to be same kind of problems what SBI had, not even close.
Create a closed economy where it is not possible to transfer ingame money between characters will cut down on that.
Hmmmm... This would help for sure, but it would also make trading kind of mess.

And with this comment, now you are on the black list.
