The Myr Trivia - Results & Winners
-
Hi everyone!
Here we go with the results of the Myr Trivia - a survey where the community was invited to guess some info regarding the first iteration of Myr, the first continent of Syndesia.
The total amount of resource nodes in the continent is... 635,882! That's about 11,000 per km2!
@Mazikar, with his very close 687.250 guess, wins 1,000 Foundation Points!
The total amount of decorations in the continent is... 2,394,802! That's about 41,500 per km2, almost 4 times more than resource nodes.
No one got close, but one got closer: @Gantrydublin, with his 1,500,000 guess! Congratulations, 1,000 Foundation Points!
The total amount of monster spawners in the continent is... 7,303! That's about 127 per km2, which means 200-300 creatures per km2.
@Crozz, with his very good 7,000 guess, wins 1,000 Foundation Points!
How long did it take to generate the map and all of the above? About 5 hours on a laptop with 16gb of RAM and an Intel i7-7700HQ CPU. Certainty one of our artists' PCs with a ton of CPU cores and more RAM would have done better, but so it went this time.
@Aurellas and @Logain guessed right and won 200 Foundation Points!
Thank you all for participating and thanks to SpatialOS for making this massive world possible.
Got any question on the results? Ask away! If you liked the idea, we'll run more trivias during Alpha 1
Cheers!

Congratulation to the winners!
@Prometheus it's a very good Idea to do other trivia during alpha 1.
And didn't you generate the map multiple time? On discord, you have shown a generation image 24h before the begin of the trivia and as you said it takes only 5h

As a prospective monster hunter, I am quite happy with that number.

Wow, that's pretty fast indeed.
-
Oh i was way too high with my first both guesses
Congratulation to the Winner!Nice to see these values, i canโt wait to play it
-
Grats to the winners
-
I was totally wrong!
Congratulations to the winners!
-
Grats all!
Consolation forum title I fail at Math to everyone that lost.
-
Finally all those math classes paid off.
-
@Prometheus you asked about questions, what will be the limit for a chunk (512x512) to place surface stuff?

Congratulation to the winners!!!!

(...)200-300 creatures per km2(...)
Interesting number!
Roughly how many 'screens' is a kmยฒ?
-
Congratulation to the Winners. ^^
My guesses were way too high.
But i calculated a few numbers (hopefully correct):
There are in average 90m2 land around each resource node, 24m2 around each decoration and 7800m2 around every monster spawner without another object of the same kind.
It's very hard to imagine, but these numbers, in particular the spawner one, are looking kinda large.

There were some close answers. Congrats to all the winners!

Congratulations to all winners!

I generated it multiple times indeed

I'm afraid I don't understand the question Are you asking what's the maximum number of items in a 512x512 tile?

Your character is 1.8m tall, so I guess you can see about 15-20m on your left and right? You can calculate from that but it doesn't mean much...

It's very hard to imagine, but these numbers, in particular the spawner one, are looking kinda large.Yeah. This means there are on average roughly 10 meters between two resource nodes, 5 between decorations, and 88 between monster spawners (these numbers are the squared roots of the ones you posted, a decent approximation).
The distance of resource nodes is definitely not large, it actually means you pretty much always have multiple resource nodes on your screen It's also not high for decorations if you consider that each is quite large - a 2m x 2m patch of clovers, a large bush, etc.
For monster spawners is a bit high indeed but we can't have more until we optimize movement (pathfinding) further. Still, considering your characters runs 5 meters per second, you only have to run for 20 seconds to find a different group of monsters from the one you're fighting. Not so bad, right?

It is just my bad english
Yes, maximum items per 512x512 tile.
I guess it is a limit of meshes, but in this case the counting will be hard. But maybe it is just a fixed item limit.
You will know it

Thanks a lot for the competition, even though I really had no idea what I was doing, what is realistic, and what everything means.
My eyes kind of glaze over when I see all these figures.
-
Oof, my guesstimates were so wrong...
-
Damn i though i would get one of thoses with my meme guesses.

Congrats, we'll win the next trivia
