    • Bounty Hunting & Jails - Official Feedback Thread

      Hi all,

      this is the official thread to discuss the Bounty Hunting & Jailing system.

      You can bring your own point of view as a PvP player (PK or not) and/or as a PvE player, but please do not degenerate this discussion into the usual "you're a griefer" / "you're a carebear" quarrel. This thread has been opened to discuss a specific system, not to discuss PvP in MMOs in general. This is also not a place for bickering between enemy PvP guilds.

      Before posting, please read the following:

      • Any system that generates gold out of nowhere is exploitable with a friend (inb4 the suggestion "let's make the bounty hunter gain money and the criminal lose nothing").
      • We don't have the resources to develop super-sophisticated systems. The team is small and the core features to implement many! 🙂
      • Syndesia is a lawful planet. The criminal system exists to make player killing against new players, new characters that are just gaining knowledge, and so on extremely inconvenient, while keeping high-level hostile behavior possible, but risky. If you want a place with no consequences, Tartaros will be the planet for you!

    • Patch Log - v.a.2.5.0f + Jail System Info

      Signing up as a bounty hunter at a jail allows a Good character to punish crime and potentially make good money at the same time.

      When a character is jailed:

      • Jail time ranges from 24h to 48h according to the criminal's Karma (0 to -10,000).
      • Bail value ranges from 2,000 gold to 6,000 gold according to the criminal's Karma (0 to -10,000). Paying bail triggers instant jail release.

      A jailed character can bail itself out. Money is withdrawn from its Global Gold Wallet (available at the bank in all cities that have researched it and starting areas). Other players can pay a prisoner's bail too by interacting with the board outside of the jail.

      If a bail is paid, half of it goes to the city, the other half goes to the bounty hunter.

      Bug Fixes

      • Fixed a bug that would prevent players jailed in starting areas from being able to click the shackles button to release themselves.
      • The same bug was preventing everyone from bailing jailed players out.
      • Fixed a bug that would allow Evil players to get their Karma above 0 by doing PvE.
      • The last bug was causing all sorts of bugged bail values too.

    • April 4th - Server Crash

      Hi,

      we've just experienced another server crash. The way it took place is similar to how it happened 3 days ago.

      As much it would be convenient to lie and say game servers were under heavy load, they were not. A component of our backend engine (SpatialOS) just crashed out of the blue for no reason we can fathom.

      We have considered stopping the Spring Alpha until the SpatialOS engineers have looked into the issue and solved it, which I'm sure they'll do quickly. We have decided against it because it's been 3 days since the last occurrence - and we hope that at least as much time will pass before it happens again (hoping it doesn't happen again at all, of course). Plus, we know many of you would rather keep playing and bear a 15-30m progression loss than not play at all.

      So, onwards with the Spring Alpha and let's make these servers scale up and stay stable so they're ready for our Steam launch! And of course, apologies for all the inconveniences this is causing.

      Bug Fixes

      • Fixed a bug that would prevent claiming personal land parcels that weren't close to the city of the region.
      • The same bug was causing issues when trying to abandon personal land parcels in residential areas. That's fixed too.
      • ...and it was also causing gold not to be delivered to the city sometimes when claiming.
      • Walls can be completed now (no more UNDEFINED TOOL error). Do note that existing walls before the patch still can't be completed. Admin intervention is needed for that.

      Coming Next

      • The revamped Legends system - powerful world bosses that can be summoned and drop wondrous loot, including Lost Tales, items that grant knowledge when consumed!
      • Some good balancing for a few key spells that are currently OP in PvP.
      • More bug fixes... and exploit fixes! Yes, we can see you. Yes, we know it all. 👁

      I understand the party sharing, but how does Guild Members work? Do we no longer have to party up as guild members to gain the knowledge from fights?

      Well it didn't work before so... eheh 🙂 But yes, guild membership is enough for loot rights. Party members show as pins on the minimap though, and the party is required anyway if you want to heal each other, buff each other, etc 🙂

      A quick server patch to bring you two of the most requested fixes! Have a nice weekend!

      Bug Fixes

      Changes

      • Cereal plants in starting areas are now Rye plants instead of Wheat plants. Rye can be used to craft the items needed to complete the tutorial and make bread, but can't be used to make cereal sacks for city maintenance. No more new character exploiting!

      Bug Fixes

      • Battle Jump can now be learnt correctly. Note: you may have discovered the ability before the right time (60% of the knowledge progress of the Felghoul). You won't be able to unlock it until you reach that about of progress.
      • All new monsters (Skeletal Mage / Archer / Priest, Skeletal Dragon, Felghoul) are now correctly listed in the Book of Knowledge.
      • Death now removes the Necrotic Disease.
      • Fixed a bug that would prevent the use of certain materials (e.g. Primal Weave to craft Scholar Clothes) in player cities.
      • Materials of tier > 1 can no longer be used in starting area cities.
      • Targeted projectiles cast by opponents against one's own character are visible again.
      • The tooltip for items crafted from the inventory crafting (not in a crafting station) now correctly states they are always of Poor quality.
      • It's not longer possible to jump on a horse while pulling a handcart or dropping a heavy material.
      • The Wagon now longer removes vegetation.
      • Hotkey rebinding is now fully functional.
      • The Cobweb spell now correctly creates webs again.

    • April 1st Server Crash - What Happens Now

      Hi all,

      it's no joke, we had a "server crash" (to put it in simple terms).

      As mentioned on Discord, we're keeping in touch with SpatialOS engineers to figure out what happened. It's possible it was a hosting issue (stemming from the cloud that hosts game servers). World and player data are safe - if anything, there's going to be a small rollback, no more than 30 minutes of progression lost.

      Servers are back online, but you should know that the problem is entirely out of our hands. We will only know more when the Improbable engineers have completed their investigation on the service that crashed.

      What does this mean?

      It means that if the issue was a transient one, not to be seen again, everything is going to be alright tonight and perhaps for the whole test. If not, another crash might happen in 1 hour, 5 hours, 10 hours...

      In case it happens again, the rollback is guaranteed to be minimal, but it will be there.

      We're really sorry and disheartened this is happening when such an exciting alpha testing phase was just launched.

      We'll keep working on bug fixes and whatnot over the Easter holidays and the weekend, but once again, we can't make any promise the issue won't happen again.

      Our deepest apologies and thank you all for your understanding. We'll have some form of compensation for the downtime for you all for sure.

      To clarify further - @GamerSeuss and @AlejoTheBear are correct, there is no issue with this craft when using the station in the starter town. Is that intended that the starter town crafting station has the higher tier unlocked by default?

      I'll get to you in game to verify. The starting towns should only allow tier 1 mats, too.

      That shouldn't be the case, we'll verify and if needed fix it ASAP.

      @Kaluvel as others have mentioned, your town needs to complete some researches for that, it should explicitly tell you so when you try to craft.

      Changes

      • We've changed the structure of the packaged asset files used by the client so that our launcher can make smaller patches. This is the reason why this client patch is so heavy. The next ones should be very small!
      • We've tacked some server issues that should hopefully have increased its stability greatly, so that we don't have to do another emergency restart like what happened 2h after launch yesterday.

      Bug Fixes

      • Fixed an issue where players logging in with a female character would see their character as a male.
      • Fixed the total play time counter for the Young status that was resetting in some circumstances.
      • Fixed an issue where the inventory crafting menu would go crazy after leaving a city area.
      • The friend list of carts can now be closed properly.
      • Fixed an issue that would sometimes prevent players from being able to complete the construction of a Shrine.
      • Monsters that kill a player summon no longer acquire infinite range.
      • Fixed an issue with the pin of a player town in the world map that had ended up on top of another town.
      • Nations now correctly cost 50,000 gold to be created. All existing nations have been reset.
