RE: Gear and element resistances
I'd hope (and assume) that gear is as situational as skills are planned to be and in fact does complement them. Resistance is a way to achieve something like that, but by far not the only one.

I'd guess that massively depends on how it is being advertised and how 'ready and fun' PvP is compared to other activities. If people have to read stuff to know they can join a militia, don't count on too much participation.

As other have mentioned, testing is the time to break things and the people who wouldn't understand that are likely not here for the long term either. Take your time, get things right, the pace you've shown thus far is very good and stable, there shouldn't be any concerns on that regard.

Actually, I like that they are going for a minimal (easy to implement) system. They have a limited amount of programmers working on the project and I'd rather them do things 'right', then do plenty of stuff, but just barely 'working'.

The test is supposed to run for multiple weeks. You should have ample opportunity (and weekends) to get in and have at it
It's better to do ample testing and delay for a weekday when you can have the best possible conditions for a smooth start. No reason to push something just to gain a day or two.

There's a solid (logic) reason why you won't ave 'solo player towns'. Since the world isn't instanced, there's limited space, which means there's a limited amount of 'towns' possible and if solo players could claim them... well, you'd run out of possibilities fast.

in the gameplay vid the wiz was very squishy the melee warrior type did most of the work.
That should massively depend on the type of enemy you're facing though, since we know that some builds can 'counter' other builds enough that this is a determining factor in PvP battles.
