I wholeheartedly agree with @EvolGrinZ and @Mazikar , this is too early in development to worry about balancing.

Yeah, thanks, I remembered that, but wanted to highlight the fact that it's tricky to market the game to a female audience like that.

Data on an US server can never be protected by the 'same EU law', due to US law, even the European Court decided that way.

The pre-alpha is being postphoned to November.
Could something like that be made official and posted in a news statement, just so people are aware and even better yet, including the reason ; )?

We'll cover that in the future for sure - actually, we're going to show it, and it will be actual armor, no "Asian MMO" stuff.
Thanks, much appreciated!

That being said, where's the "bikini babe" exactly?
She checked out the three different races and found a completely nude female beast, a half nude female demon and a female human who covers her belly with 'armor' but disregards the rest.
Her exact words were:
'Universe - Beastment (naked lady with leaves added to shoulders), Demons (half naked lady with her breasts out)
Humans - lady in gauzy dress with classic armoured corset

Which determines regulation and liability.
The PP is GDPR compliant in parts, which it has to be in order to target the European market. But it doesn't apply to the full EU standards (just as an example: '(...)19.7 gamigo is not willing to participate in such an out-of-court settlement of Disputes arising from contracts with our customers, not even under the VSBG (Consumer Dispute Settlement Act)(...)').
And storing data on US servers can never be privacy shield compliant as ruled by the court of justice of the European union. The debate is mute though, neither of us is going to be convinced by the other one, you're even going to come up with verifiable false information claiming that '(...)Gamigo Us Inc is a German company(...)' in order to justify Gamigo's moves.

Since that continues through 2018 according to the funding page, there's a good chance that pre-alpha feedback/publicity might lure a few additional backers to pledge their support (maybe so that they can join Alpha 1). The part of it that's not going to be NDA, that is.

Another SpatialOS game that's currently in development does exactly that. Hence why I hope Fractured would go that route as well, but hey, only the developers can tell us

RE: Get ready for Closed Beta!
@Vortech said in Get ready for Closed Beta!:
(...)What I wrote was essentially an example he gave?(...)
As far as I recall, the 'example' he gave was conditional, as in parting if the project didn't turn out to be 'successful'. This is a very ambiguous statement, because it doesn't specify what success means, nor the financial details, nor the data migration.
IF, let's say, the contractual penalty is half the invested money and there's no details on the data migration, yes, 'on paper', it's still possible for DS to part with Gamigo, but it's simply not realistic because it's not financially viable.
Hence why @Jetah (correctly) claimed that it depends on the contract details.
Remember... this is not Gamigo's first rodeo and they have experienced lawyers, but it's DS first attempt (on that scale) and I doubt that their lawyers can cope with Gamigo.@Vortech said in Get ready for Closed Beta!:
(...)What makes you think Gamigo "controls" the purse strings? (...)Sure, there was a cash infusion..(...)
I'm not a big fan of 'common sense' usually, since it doesn't scale and hence can be misleading, but in this scenario, I'd argue that a partner who invests enough to 'double your staff' is going to have a significant control over a project in order to secure the investment.
As a rule of thumb, always assume the worst in such a scenario, because if you're treating that optimistic, you're bound to 'let down your guard'. -

(...)We know they have more important game mechanics to work on and we still love to share ideas. Who knows what will come down the line as the game reaches closer to completion.
The reason I mention my concerns is simply that feature creep is a very common and severe threat for games. It is easy for developers to fall prey to this and even more so when there's a vocal group calling for it, but in most every case, it has severely negative consequences in the end.

RE: Become a Fractured Online volunteer today!
This is definitely a positive development, Kudos to that step.
I hope the Gamemasters you're choosing can determine bots (people usually have serious misconceptions how 'easy' that is) and are going to proactively act on them, since it's going to be a real issue on the Beastman realm. -

(...)I can just speak for myself, but i think they should take the time they need and i will not demand an too early start, just because i am hyped.
I think there is a common misconception there. While a good deal of people is undoubtedly going to ask out of impatience, there is a very valid concern with trying to nail milestone scheduling and not going too far off the trail. In a perfect world, time would be the only requirement, but most unfortunately, it really is money and that is far from unlimited. The very opposite is true, investors are willing to gamble with a high risk, but require a decent interest rate to validate that investment. And we do not have a lot of kickstarter funding to keep that running.

By monitoring players' activities - login / logout patterns, IP addresses, in-game behaviors. It's not easy, but doable with the help of player reports.
I 'worked' as volunteer Gamemaster in a MMORPG back in the days, I know what you're talking about, but I know about the difficulties (and the 'success-rate') as well.
I'm glad that you're at least going to try and do your best though! -
RE: Runescape-like safe bank/storage.

(...)I can tell you that more metrics the better (...) I am in favor of player kill counts, of pve kill counts (e.g. you killed 100 boars), time spent, gold made and gold spent and everything and anything else.
I'm torn there. I like statistics, I love when games provide an API to grab and process data, but for RPGs, I prefer when you don't have 'hard data', but rather 'soft data', simply because that usually allows for better interaction. Every bow contest (Robin Hood anybody?) happened because one can not tell 'I have 95 markmanship and you only 85.
What I'd prefer instead is a title, or reward of sort. A demon that manages to rampage on the beastman planet should certainly gain some influence with his kind! -

Are servers going to be US based or ...?
As far as we've been told, servers would most likely be US based for now, but DS has started experiments testing ping difference with EU based servers. Depending on the results (including of this stress test), they are probably evaluating the situation. The great point about their current setup is that they could easily run one continent on an EU server and another on an US server (3 continents per planet have always been planned) and you could simply travel between them 'by harbor' in game. Just an idea from my side though.

@finland said in Will we have a kill count in pvp?:
You can't have an MMR system for an openworld PvP
You don't need one for an adjusted ELO system to work.
@finland said in Will we have a kill count in pvp?:
Anyway how would you judge individually the player who is strong and who is weak in a a zerg fight 50vs50?
Same as you do in a 5 vs 5 MOBA battle?
@finland said in Will we have a kill count in pvp?:
Or in a gank 1vs10? You will be killed by they could have been weaker than you!
I know you don't like and don't want to hear that, but if players puts themselves in a situation where they can be tag-teamed, the blame is on them. Map-awareness, strategical positioning, communication (and social interaction), preparation, all that is part of PvP and should be rated accordingly.
Keep on your toes, know when you can go where you plan to go, know when you have what amount of support and how fast it can get to your position, have an escape plan and set your gear/skills according to the situation, but as well to expected PvP and you can limit the amount of times when you find yourself in such a situation.
That said, you can track, weight and evaluate individual contribution to a battle (A healed B, A hit B,...) so you can easily apply Fuzzy Logic here.
