Opening inventory during fight ?

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

I rather have a few slots for consumables, create some kind of belt with 4 slots, besides the 8 skills slots.

Opening your inventory during battle is so 2019.

  • @Razvan Don´t know about crafting potions, but if im not mistaken, devs stated enchanting your equipment will demand at least few points in INT. But there shouldn´t be any prerequisites for anything, as long as you have materials, youre free to craft.

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

I am also in favor of few slots for skills, and few slots for consumables.
More slots being for skills, and less for consumables.

  • @Yitra and belts are so 1996 😛 Imo if we get dedicated health potions slots, will anyone ever use restoration spells school (aside of buffing teammates) ? Belts are classic way of healing in ARPG (Diablo 1, Diablo2, Path of Exile), because healing with spells is mostly non present, this game however seems more like ADaD game, where potions and spells were balanced.

Yes, I am that old 🙂

I would be fine with healing only by spells, but not with using potions only by opening inventory HUD. That just plain dumb IMHO and bad design if implemented.

  • @Yitra Im not young either 😄
Of course it would be bad design - that´s what the topic is about. Im just stating it would be balanced to use only 8 slots we have (anyway we want) without being able to get into inventory during fight.

i like how PoE does their pot refill system, which gives a limit on how many times you can consume them. only problem in pvp is the group that's winning will have access to more potions. unless pvp and pve have different refill speeds.

maybe we can forgo hp and mana, and only have utility potions. by having hp and mana pots we replace a support class.

Support classes dont need to just heal and wow has potions and healers, having potions does not mean you wont need support

Fractured isn't WoW. the hp pots are horrible too

PoE's potion system is meant for a hack'n'slash game without crafting in which spamming potions is one of the two main ways of healing. Other than the problems mentioned by you (that a zvz is decided in the first engagement / potions doing almost burst healing as in PoE is going to make healers useless), this would also make potion crafting a lot more meaningless, which will affect a big chunk of economy since potions are end-products

PS: Most MMOs I played have healing potions, only that instead of burst-healing they give a slow regen buff. This way they are useful when soloing, yet healers are still useful in parties.

PoE has the best crafting economy. you can get any white item and turn into a bis. again, hp pots aren't designed to keep the player alive, it's meant to keep them enough until other forms of healing hit. PoE now has regen builds so the pots aren't really HP based so much as support (reduced damage from x type, more damage, etc).

i haven't played mmos where the hp pot is a heal over time, or i have and already forgotten about it. then again i have the most time spent in WoW, i dont remember UO pots and i can't even remember if Rift had them.

  • No one is saying there should be no health potions in game. Player should just decide whether he wants them in ability slot (just like you can slot remedies and bandages) or not. Of course they will be needed, you can have as low as 6 inteligence and my guess is such character can´t rely on healing spells as much as mage (there are abilities with 0 mana cost such as Second wind ... but CD 80s makes it usable once a fight).
Topic is about something else - if you can get into inventory during fight to get healing from potion of slurp some fire resistance potion when you meet fire specialised enemy, it´s imo same as to stop the fight, have a rest and spec different abilities to counter enemy - this is neccessary in PVE, when you cant prepare for encounter, but in PVP it gives you advantage.

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

Not needing to open inventory during combat also makes game easyer and more fun to play.

I would hate to play a game having to have my bag open eating third of my screen.

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

I agree consumeables should only be usable from the skillbar. So you have to build it up viable for the things you want to do, i believe that's the whole point of switching your loadout fast at a campfire too.

  • @Gothix I would hate it just as much...but I´d sure use if it would give me any advantage in PVP 😄

i dont see how an open inventory, reducing your viewable range, would give you any advantage in PvP. unless you have a 3 monitor setup and can still get the full view range a single setup would get.

PoE has Hodradric cube kind of transmutation and random item modding, not crafting... Unlike in PoE where you can afford to mod an item 50 times until you get the right stats, in a full loot game items are expendable so you probably wouldn't afford crafting an item a bunch of times until you get the right mods just so you lose it on the next death.
Anyway, this derailed a bit from the original argument about PoE style potions. Imo, they have no place in a game like this.

Then maybe I am wrong. In the mmorpgs I played healing potions mostly gave hp over time (Lineage, Lineage2, GW, GW2, Archeage and Albion).

    PoE calls it 'crafting'.
honestly we dont know how Fractured will turn out with crafting (as we dont have a spotlight on it).

  • @Jetah Have you played Albion online? If I could open inventory to heal while one of my potions (or some kind of bandage) is on CD, or if i could choose right "protection potion" in middle of the fight (when i already know what element specialization my enemy has), I´d virtually have at least 2x as much hp, which is imo quite the advantage.

to opening it in Fractured: we have 8 slots, if half of them is filled with potions, you have 4 nukes; if you dont have to slot potions and use them from inventory, you can have 8 nukes = twice more damage (probably awesome with DOTs). Again advantageous ( i exaggerate to show my point).

They will probably expand the currently implemented system: to craft a stone hammer, you need a bunch of rocks and a stick. To craft advanced items, you need to use a crafting station. The alpha test didn't have towns, but probably there will be a bonus for crafting in towns.
