If anyone can do a recap of the effective information we have
We don't have much effective informations.
We just have tons of speculations. To summarize the case:
- Unity revoked licenses of Improbable/SpatialOS
- Improbable informed their customers in public about it and wrote an emotional statement
- Unity got a mass of WHY? from their customers (Unity Develeoper) and the please to give a statement to clear the TOS
- Unity made an Reactive (emotional) Statement in public, where they said things about Improbable and stated that actual Unity Developements are not affected and they can use still SpatialOS for their projects.
- User/Developer got splitted into Pro Improbable or Pro Unity with all the mess of speculations we have now
- Improbable reacted with another Statement when Unreal stepped into the ring
- Improbable made a final (emotional) Statement in Reaction of the Reaction of Unity, where clear statement is about that they will not be able to support and develope Unity integration in SpatialOS, so that Customers are infact affected.
- Unity just pleased their customers to be patient in their forum, because they work on more clear TOS
- While all these i am sure Improbable and Unity are in negotiation how and if it will run in future.
Here we are.
We know nothing.I summarized you summarize in one pic
-
Reading these posts everyday continues to concern me.. When you back a project like this, you never think the engine developer or a middleware developer will be it's undoing.
I just don't see how this gets resolved the way the statements have been coming out of both sides.
-
@basileus as I said before Improbable was open in what's they're going to do. Why block them over a year after they started and in a way that affects others? That doesn't make any sense. I'm not saying Improbable is the good guy here - I don't know. But Unity for sure is the bad guy.
And their clarification of TOS is... evil. They say you can do a platform yourself but if you want to use a third party platform you can only use the ones that paid them (at least that's what I'm reading between the lines).
-
It seems, tomorrow there will be more clarification in Unitys TOS
-
The new TOS by Unity are out.
Essence:
- SpatialOS does not longer breach the TOS, but they are not supported by Unity.
- Improbables licenses will get actived again
What it means for us, will surely and hopefully explain Prometheus soon.

Looks like high time for a news post explaining and detailing the resolved situation and the future strategy (together with the forum downtime) to instill confidence for the customers again. Considering that funding increased by a whooping €20 in the last 6 days
-
We will get it soon i think.
Now let the guys work towards future
-
Alright, good to hear that the issue has been resolved!
-
And we can post in forums again!

Yes, a State of the Game is coming!
-
There is no greater happiness than being able to post again in the forum.
-
Wow, Unity backed down and reverted the changes. That's very telling.
Improbable was a genius by getting the rest of the industry involved in this.

Great news! I'm looking forward to that state of the union.
-
cant wait to hear the updates!
-
Pretty scary news at first, but to be honest I'm still kinda worried if they don't bring back support.
-
We'll see what the aftermath for Unity will be.
-
Hopefully they will learn from this.
-
They all can learn from this.
I am quite sure this business will hit again in some kind.
And i also see very possible ways for a real support by Unity.
All depends on negotiations....and how their own platform will running.
A good Engine developer don't has to be a good network developer too.
