Fractured Gamepedia: Let's Populate It!

I dont like the idea of an "Official" wiki. that defeats the point of a wiki. but it is nice knowing a developer will be spending some time at a certain place.
@Prometheus we need some official assets. Either officially upload the images for us or allow us to download them from you.
I think it's better than have multiple wikis with information scattered all over the place. I had my own private mediawiki install I worked on for me mostly so I could learn mediawiki and so I could analyze the spotlights and other information. Was hoping @Prometheus would eventually get one going

Wikis are nice as an extra. Even if I never read them, I know many people do.
I usually only :
- check info from official website and read official forums
- use item database if it exists
- read specific guides from experienced players (if I jumped into a MMO that was already live for few years and I need to catch up with knowledge)
Wikis are kinda too broad and too "flat" for me. It's like reading a book and searching stuff inside, instead of reading a specialized dynamic guide about something you want to learn about (which I prefer, learning about one specific issue that interests me at a time).
But to each his own. I know there are lots of people that like to read "book type material" with broad information and suck all in at once.
In the end options are always good, the more, the better.
(that goes for wasd movement too, khm, khm)

@prometheus
I believe the community should have decided which to use. Curse.. I mean Twitch.. I mean Amazon, tends to be more corporate than others.@kellewic said in Fractured Gamepedia: Let's Populate It!:

that's the problem though. Wiki's should be started and maintained by the community and not rely on the developers.

Developers are part of the community too.
Well, at least the good ones are. The bad ones usually separate themselves from the community and just "sit on their high horse". It's why I prefer developers that engage themselves in various "stuff".

The Wiki is very nice
So let's use it to spread the information and bring it more alive
So nice I wish I have more time, then I would write hundreds of articles
-
So here can I find a complete guide to all the +400 skills/abities? In time ofc
-
@benseine
i hope not. i'd love for the skill acquisition be random to an extent.
-
I just read a couple of days ago games like RS2007 that take a private wikipedia instead of going on wiki because of some limitations.
Is gamepedia worth it?
-
A wiki is very good if and only if the content are well managed
For example, when i checked, attribute was defined but not entry exist to go in page with the attribute list That's why is community business : if you have a need use your finger because this need could come in help for someone share knowledge is time consuming but it's fun when done.
-
This has some serious potential as long as it's kept up and have current/relevant info. Looking forward to the community output.
-
@benseine I'm sure eventually there will be information on the skills. Maybe not a full guide to the skills since I think you can learn them in different ways. That information probably won't come until much later.

Do not underestimate people that rush through things because they want to be "the first".

who are the ones that fills up and puts info in the wiki?

Anyone can edit the wiki and add information.
-
@gothix Very true. Hopefully our admins are able to keep up and make sure the information is at least accurate.
I'm hoping we have less of here's a guide to be <Profession> and more of well these skills work well together or you may want to consider X or Y.
-
is the wiki moderated by @Specter as well?
-
@lohen Nope. It's run by the community, not me.
-
@kellewic sounds "dangerous". if anyone can edit...i'm sure we can all look forward to trolls putting incorrect information or just irrelevant/unnecessary stuff or is there going to be some sort of "protection" to keep all info put on the wiki true?

The community needs to make sure that doesn't happen and if it does to clean it up. I would say so far everything in the Spotlights is up there and I haven't seen any major issues.
Mediawiki has a lot of "special" pages to keep track of what's going on and anyone can see them at https://fractured.gamepedia.com/Special:SpecialPages. Admins also have the capability to "patrol" pages and mark them as "good to go" or rollback edits if they are not appropriate.

Community runs the wiki, and Specter runs the community.
