Disappointed

Disappointed that the latest Alpha had none of the environmental features that are the strongest reason I chose to invest in this game in the first place.
-
It is called alpha for a reason. You can't expect them to pull out everything with the hope it will work right away. If bugs are accuring on mass where to start the fixing? Better concentrate on small parts make these work and then move on to the next.

Come on! they literally said what's they are testing in test 2 on the update. I mean at least read about it dude.
-
@Orison obviously you're not getting the whole game yet. Patience grasshopper patience

Exhibit A in how the broader gaming industry has ruined the idea of alphas and betas. Too often now a days people forget that alphas are actually meant to test things, not be an early release.
So to the OP, fret not, those things will be in the game. If those are the things you're really interested in trying, then it may be best to sit out tests until they are mentioned to be in one. The designers have been wonderfully straight forward about features in tests, so you'll know ahead of time whether or not they'll be present.
-
The target of an Alpha release it's to test the basic of the game to ensure that the most easy things work properly so that more complex features may be added safley.
With time everything will be implemented and tested out, but step by step is the right way to grant quality in every aspect.

@Orison if you are looking for environmental features, then you should have probably bought a pack to join a beta instead. Beta is where the game is usually alot more progressed and is for final bug catching and patches. Even then, environmental features aren't guaranteed tho.
-
well, its still in alpha, just give it time

alpha - Computer Definition
Referring to a product, usually a software product, that is ready for initial testing, in-house and possibly under laboratory conditions. An alpha product generally is unstable and does not include all planned features or functionality. See also beta and software

Not sure what type of response you expected by making this topic.

May the power of the donkey be with you .

Betas are feature complete. Alphas are not.

Actually this depends of the games itself, which is why people have different experiences and opinions. For example Albion's "winter alpha" was totally playable (not just minor feature testing) and some testers liked that actually more than the official launch version.
-
that's because 'alpha' is being used despite it really being a beta.
-
@Jetah That sounds kind of far-fetched reason tbh. It is more like that line between alpha and beta scales and there is not just one clear point to separate these two phases from each other. In Albion there was still more content in beta than in alpha, so there was nothing wrong with the naming.
-
It's purely up to developers how much content they want to place in Alpha or Beta, there are not fixed rules tied to this.
Meaning of Alpha and Beta also changed over time. In the past Alpha usually meant in-house testing at developers lab by company employees, while betas were usually online tests done by players around the world.
Over time, and with companies becoming smaller, standards changed to acclimate to specific company resources, this is why Alpha and Beta can involve different processes in the hands of companies with different resources.
Some accepted standard is more or less close to this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycleHowever, again, companies will different resources available will make this stages more aligned to themselves.
If we really wanted to narrow it down as much as we can, and use some middle ground, we could say that Alphas are mechanics tests (core of the game), and Betas are content (and server stress) tests.
