Rhykker Mention of "Pay for Convenience"

Path of exile sells convenience items. You can buy extra tabs
Warframe you can buy warframes
do you think tabs are their primary income or secondary?
frames aren't more powerful though. they do offer a little boost, but usually less than 25% (same thing Fractured is offering) but the loadout can be better. again, anyone can buy them because you can farm mods or void relics.
-
Both are still convenience items though. Buy a frame, or grind for it.
Nowhere have I said either are pay to win. They just are not solely cosmetic operations

the Prime frames are more cosmetic though. they look much better! there is a little perk of better stats and more mod capacity but they're available to everyone. The game is setup so that the frame parts are limited drop items (randomly in a lootbox type item) so when the void relics are removed they're gone (usually happens when the prime vault changes).
right now anyone could get into the game and start to farm relics of current prime frames then keep some spares to sell when it's closed. they can farm ravins (think that's the name) and trade them for plat to buy blueprints of past prime frames.
-
That is literally the definition of convenience though. You purchase a frame to get it at your convenience while others farm

if you spend the cash to buy the silver (cash shop currency) to buy the items from players, then yes. otherwise you farm items to trade for silver to trade for the items you want. the cash paid doesn't have to exist every time.

I would have no problem with some sort of subscription. Even though I already bought the game, if I am enjoying it I don't mind paying a few dollars a month to make sure the game survives. Comes right out of my entertainment budget :). I haven't played a lot of top down isometric games. Just wondering what the market is for cosmetics in a game where you really cant see much of your character?
-
Cosmetics are always hot thing in shop especially when connected with housing.
As long as housing system will provide decent flexibility and constructive options people will go crazy about house decorations.
Its important housing isnt overly simple though for people to be more interested in it.
-
UO cosmetics were very important to players and those graphics were awful. In fact, to see most of the cosmetics you actually had to pull up a persons paperdoll because the rendering in the game was so poor.
SWTOR cosmetics were very hot when I was playing there. There is a sub also but you can play without one. Without one the game was so chopped down you really couldn't have any fun. I've not seen any financial reports on the game but I bet they make alot of money from buying cosmetics. Their housing was awesome. You had alot of room to display your trophies. I had an entire hanger of my starships on display lol. Only problem was the housing was instanced and you had to give authorization for people to enter.

A cosmetic only model sounds fantastic, but it is also naive unfortunately. I mean they literally already sold convenience with the carpenterArgument between you and me started from here (below). Yitra asked and I answered directly to that question. It is purely generally speaking, that cosmetics do sell and can make a good amount of money for the gaming company. There is no mention of cosmetics to be the only income, there is no critic against convenience items (generally or Fractured) or any intend to do so. Do you see the problem here? You started to counter argue for something I have not said or even thought.
Why would I spend money on things that don't give me anything useful?
Many gaming companies do a good amount of money with cosmetics, so I guess most people are fine to buy atleast something

path of exile had $100m revenue in 2017 so cosmetics as primary income can be done.
-
@Jetah And Fortnite made a billion.
-
We are a vain species lol.
-
Yes we are...people freaking love their cosmetics
-
I do not personally care much of the cosmetics, but I am still ready to buy some to support the game.

they also had a pack that was hidden after you bought the highest tier. that's pretty shady. they also have lootboxes (or did) so they made it off the gambling instead of direct cosmetic sales.
@Farlander
between spell alternative animation, stance animation, weapon attack animation, alternative weapons (cosmetic), head to feet cosmetic, non-combat pet cosmetic, combat pet decoration, cart, house, house interior cosmetics, mount alternatives, mount decorations. this game can sell so much style!

I will accept that for the first round we had against eachother but then you directly quoted this:
"Not many MMOs can get by with just B2P and cosmetics. (I do not count BRs as MMOs)"
At which point you made a plug for AoC
-
@Jetah Fortnite still has lootboxes but now you see what is in them before deciding to purchase.

Yes we were against each other, but do you understand that for reasons you made up your mind? You started to argue against something what I have not even said.
Actually we already discussed about AoC before than that. You said; AoC is not an MMO atm and you concider it as a BR game. That is why I commented on that sentence at first place.

Seems like you are backpedalling.
At multiple points you directly quoted my comments about MMOs not being sustainable on cosmetics alone. Make up your mind please

Like the one were I said selling cosmetics is good to combine with other payment method? My mind is not changed at any point.
Next time actually read the posts before commenting so you do not need to make false arguments.
