Do the daily post every day and share every news story and update on Facebook and Twitter. That'll get you more points. I've been here a month and have been doing that and I'm at level 50 without a single friend boosting my score. I would be 51 if I could find 2 of the newsletters that never arrived in my mailbox.
There's no doubt that some people have just spammed alt accounts, but it's easy enough to level. If you make a contribution to a good forum thread then you'll probably win a weekly award at some point as well. I already have.

Also, keep in mind that the Foundation isn't supposed to be a competitive thing. It will be really difficult for an account that has just joined to catch up to an account that's been here for ages.
The point of the foundation is to have a bit of fun, reward the long-running early supporters with some goodies, and to incentivize engagement and word-of-mouth marketing.
If you stress out about it competitively it'll probably be a net loss for you in terms of fun vs effort.

it's advertising for them and keeps the forums active in case someone random stops by.

I wouldn't stress about that just yet. Wait for an update on the game to drop and see how much that generates more interest.
If we get a spike, things should be fine.
If it flops, then maybe worry.

Did you read, what we told you?
Did you understand, how we got the points for the leaderboard?„They“ are normal active people.
They are We.So, if you point out a special people, that you suspect to farm in a not so allowed way, report it to Specter.
If you don‘t point that, then sorry, just read what the other member wrote here and do your Foundationquests, becausee with them you will be one day also at a good level.Btw. you don‘t raise your demon guild high, if you are alone in it. I have also a guild with 5 member, even i‘m high, the guild is it not.
Also, realize, the Foundation level IS NOT the game, it will be totally irrelevant for later ingame, except your rewards that you will have with your own levels. And if you realized, the rewards are all just cosmetical. You don‘t get any power with your Foundation Level or from the rewards you get with them.

Been here a year, didn't get very involved the first month or two but once I did I never missed a day. Kept up with the community never missed a thing, won several of the weekly drawings.
