Cosmetic cash shop, RMT and p2w.

@logain wins the guild that nerds more (h24) to grind more money(...)
True, but that's called 'play to win', which I know you dislike, but I consider entirely fine. The question was about the definition on pay to win though.
-
@logain it's your opinion. If you can fight gearless and be competitive somehow I don't see problems to became rich. Still hoping to see only cosmetic gears in game and no sts buff gears.

Now, the solution is simple; Make cosmetics bind on pickup.
lol if thy do that all cosmetic things bougth via shop should not be lootable. I still don't care about RMT I alway find lots of people buying accounts to get more money. You will never solve that problem.

Why would the cosmetics be lootable?

P2W definition has changed but still being accepted from any cash shop to paywalls to top gear in the store. The other form is if it takes more time to acquire the item than is reasonable is p2w. Different generations of gamers have different definitions of p2w. It’s mostly what the person is willing to accept. Some will say any form of trading can be p2w because there’ll always be a means to use cash to obtain something. Even some games without trading can have account services being sold.
As I said, subjectively the majority of MMO players, consider RMT + player driven economy p2w. You want to add "at 2018"? I can accept that. I don't know what was going on at 2000, I do know what is happening now. I can't possibly know what will happen at 2028, I do know what is happening today.
Various, different polls, at different sites, prove what I am saying. Neither poll is absolutely correct at how it puts the question, but taken together, we can tell that today's MMO community doesn't like RMT.

Why not? In Albion cosmetic items are lootable for example.

For one simple reason; The game becomes p2w. And Albion is not a game anyone wants to copy.

I have mixed feelings about the p2w discussion: I get your all points, but on the other hand see something like Star Citizien, where people spend hundreds of dollars on ships that of course will change their game experience compared to somebody starting with a mini standard ship: PtW seems to be more complex than you would think.
I personally have not much time to play - RL with a family tends to do that to you - and would not mind to have an option not totally falling back behind all the students/unemployeds/kids etc. within days, with no option to ever catch up.
Maybe there is way to do that fairly - e.g. making sure that paid advantage only targets PvE, but PvP only would be posible with a huge malus added or something like that?
-
@sebastian you got the same point of view. Nerds must be contrasted somehow especially in a game where you have to manage a settlement.
-
@sebastian @Finland @Jetah Whilst I can see your point, I find it hard to not just reiterate what I've said before that then it is an issue of genre, not the way the game should be played. The whole genre of MMO's is based on gameplay time, thats why they were invented. Huge worlds with tons to explore, content to play through. This is coming from someone who also cant 24/7 play the game. But I can accept that. If I cant keep up, then I have two choices; either accept it and just keep playing or decide that the genre is not for me. Its also been stated multiple times that the game will be based on skill, not equipment. Therefore if you have the skill regardless of the amount of time you play, you can still be top tier. If you cant, well no amount of money you try to through at the game or RMT you try to exploit will help you get there.
I'm not trying to sound harsh, but thats the reality I see of it. I know I wont be top tier and can accept that. I dont want to ruin the game with RMT to give those who are willing to spend $1000's of dollars just to get an edge over others and dont want those who dont want to spend anything to ruin it for others by allowing those same whales to splurge just so they can play the fashion game.@Logain Has already given examples how this is possible even to a small degree.
If the developers end up going that route, fair enough and that is their prerogative but as @Phaethonas has pointed out, the mass majority of those who play the genre do not like it. And realistically this game wont have such a large playerbase that they can rely on whales to sustain it. Therefore they need to garner as much customer contentment as possible to have them return the favour with cash shop purchases.
-
@miffi I hate 3rd party rmt and i hate developers that offer 'catch up gear' or 'pay for convenience'. I love how Path of Exile does their cash shop minus the loot boxes - I hate those.
-
I vote for a game without (gold/silver/copper or every kind of game currency). The money ruins our life in real-life do not make the same also for a game. RTS does not have a money system everythin costs resources and you can also pay taxes with resources. I find it the best choice.
-
@finland that makes resources the currency.
-
@jetah It's not the same. maybe you can barter resources for gears. For sure you will not buy things
-
@finland you know it is the same right?
-
@jetah it's not. Similar but not the same.
-
its the same when the result is the same. you traded something for something else. whether you call it selling or bartering, it's the same.
-
@phaethonas said in Cosmetic cash shop, RMT and p2w.:
Will it be possible to trade in-game Fractured's cosmetic items or not?
As of today, the plan is that it won't be possible. When you buy a skin for a race or for some type of armor or for a kind of pet, it just adds the option in your account to use the skin (it will reskin that type of item if you're wearing it, or that type of pet if you're controlling it). Same goes for cosmetic pets. None are actual in-game items, and there is no auction house where you can sell the skins etc that you own to other players.
-
@prometheus I am glad to hear that. It builds value for items if they are not able to be sold off in game. It curbs the disappointment some would have attempting to get rich in game by purchasing items to sell as well.

but that means people have to pay to get said item which won't help 90-95% of the population. IMO there should be a way for a person to acquire shop goods without needing to pay but time has to be spent. IE I get gold by farming mobs/players and I can sell that gold for Dynamight Gold so I can buy a new ability/spell GFX.
