Keys distribution date

With the pre-alpha coming, does anyone know when the keys are going to be distributed?

Quick answer: no. We know about when the pre-alpha will start - 4th quarter, and probably closer to December (I want to say that I saw an actual date in December, but I can't put my eyeballs on it right now). I imagine keys (or key notifications) will be issued 1 or 2 weeks in advance, unless the devs are burning significant midnight oil to meet the deadline, and only issue keys once they are convinced the server won't explode - then you are looking at as little as 3 days, to the day of. XD

Could it be that you confused pre-alpha with alpha 1? The development roadmap states pre-alpha to happen around October, though I wouldn't nail them to that month.

Indeed, development is always a game of estimates. There are a lot of things that can delay a release or even a phase (think about all the titles that have been delayed for ages) - unexpected bugs, the need for resources from another team, which has its own priorities (especially in games, where, e.g. a programmer could never to a character designer's work or vice versa).
Time tables exists for customers and to keep some sort of pressure (that is actually needed) but the actual move from phase to phase is dependent mostly on progress, e.g. if the game crashes immediately after clicking on "New game" on the main menu then it can't leave RnD. If the characters are simplified as squares because there are no models yet then it may be suitable for internal pre-alpha but no more than that. If the graphics work but there's no sound at all then it's fine for alpha but not beta.

i think they will distribute the keys in a month and half or so.
