OCEANS IN FRACTURED???

@d1shwasher if you are not a frost user I suppose that there will be ability like blink or leap. otherwise you have to take the brigde. This is intentional to create escape mechanincs

@target Thank you! This is a work around at least, but requires magic rather than a more 'natural' swimming ability.
As the option of crossing waterways is implemented in the game is fail to see the reason for not giving anyone a basic skill in swimming which has to be improved to deal with currents without drowning etc.

You're wearing plate, you can't swim. That aside! I would like to have a swimming ability but have it with 3 ranks also. This skill is passive and doesn't require a skill slot. To rank the skill up you have to swim/float/paddle in ponds, lakes, streams and rivers.
But yeah games without swimming is bad.

What happens if you freeze the water and stand on it until freeze expires?
Will you just auto die (like splat you died)? That would be kinda completely un immersive to see.
Will there be a pop up window that says that you drowned? Again, lame to see.
Unless natural swimming physics are implemented then, any sort of drowning that happens will look lame and artificial (imo).
And, again, if natural swimming physics aren't implemented (which is likely according to what we heard), then we come back to original question, what happens if you freeze the water then stand on it until freeze expires? How does your death look like?

@gothix I asked Prometheus the same thing but no amount of torture led to an answer, unfortunately.
-
Ah yes, another thing comes to mind.
What if you freeze the water, and stand there, and then nuke the mobs from there.
Will mobs be able to come to you, or evade? What if freeze expires while mobs are there? Do they reset? How they go back to their original position from water?
Do they die? If yes can you exploit this to kill strong mobs, then come back to pick up loot after?
This just seems like an issue with many questions around it. Hopefully we will get more details in time.
-
Can you loot under frozen water?
-
This could be interesting.
-
yes plz and also underwater maybe. probably hunting for chest.
-
@gothix maybe you can get an oxen mount and try and ford the river

Oh! I forgot that some mounts could be used to cross rivers! (Real live of course)
This would be a good alternative for swimming for now.
Imagine if swimming is added and we have to drown a few times to unlock the skill!!!

I loved them in ArcheAge! Was a great way to get a underleveled guild mates to join in some group activities.
-
interactive water environments are awesome. I would love that in Fractured.
-
it will be so damn cool to have private island!

I know how hard Anet has tried to incorporate underwater content and combat, and even with all their effort, many end up complaining about it. GW2 is the only mmo I know if with underwater content like that, so there's nothing really to compare it to. I wouldn't mind seeing something regarding the seas, but I wouldn't expect extensive/expansive content exclusive to it.

Ship with combat abilities and slots to transport goods would be more then enough. Even without the underwater content, ship battles alone would be super fun.
