Then I think I'll save my guild name for the game, and simply join the spam guild here. No benefit to making a pretend guild and character is there?
Doesn't hurt to have your character ready. I might be wrong but I think you get points for making it or get points daily for it. Haven't read to much into it yet
There's one quest that grants 250 points for joining a guild. I wouldn't be surprised if more quests related to guilds are added in the future. We already know more guild banner options and a guild highscore are coming.

Yes, you get points, but why make one now, when it isn't going to be reserved in game. I'm sure there will be players happy to take guild names and hero names from other players, you know, just for fun...
As long as the foundation quests don't have expiry dates on them, you can do this later, hopefully once you're able to reserve your guild and hero name in game.

I get what you're saying. Griefing is certainly a concern yeah. If you just want to join a guild for the sake of it, Foundation Point Inc is always open.

Any info on if there will be a cap on the amount of players that can be in a single guild?
-
Would be stupid to have a cap I don't see a point for there to be one

some games like to curb the "zerg" guilds and put in some sort of cap and/or tier system

Hi flotsam  There will be certain requirements (related to player-controlled cities) determining how many players you can have in your guild, but I can't reveal more about that now That being said, we're not planning to put a cap on how high a guild can go.

It would be nice to have some form of member count cap on guilds even if it is based on tiers/ levels of the guild which I assume could be also based off of total land owned size of said guilds ot however that will be handled in this game. That would keep things interesting in the long run I feel. It would also keep guilds feeling fresh. Kinda stale if a huge majority of players were spread between a few mega guilds.

Nice news

If guilds are gona have "size tiers" will that in anyway effect mechanics or costs? IE a guild with 30 people only needs to pay 100 gold to build a building where as a guild with 60 will need 150 gold, or you must have a guild of at least 20 to own a "guild house"

If this is the case the guild master could just eat the coast but the guild runs when that guild master joins could have majority of the loot to make up for his or her lost or charge a 10% fee of all the items / money gained from that run. I know not a lot people will go for that but for the newer players that do join that guild it could give them a head start financially wise. That guild master could always change that rule later on once everyone has there money built up. I know this seems like the long ass way to do things but it's just a suggestion for the guild masters to consider

Really looking forward to learning more. To me, SpatialOS is going to explode the MMO market and so many games people have waited for years and years for will be overshadowed by them.

good news about the guild cap. or lack there of

Coupled very good points. I hope the mechanics to enable the players to make that kind of arrangement will be in.
