What We Know About Weapons
-
This will be a short summary of everything we currently know about the weapon system that isn't already included in Vengu's compilation thread, just to make it more convenient for new people who don't want to crawl through several articles and forum threads for basic information.
What we know so far:
- Confirmed weapon types: unarmed, short sword, great sword, spear, crossbow, bow. More are planned. ->
- Other weapons that have been mentioned: blunt weapons, polearms, shields, claws, daggers. ->
- Weapons can be enchanted, either temporarily or permanently, using abilities from the school of Enchanting. ->
- It is possible to dual wield weapons. ->
- Archers can choose between different types of arrows, which they can craft. ->
- Weapons aren't restricted, all races can craft and use all weapons (except for human-exclusive technologies). -> ->
- Weapons that you didn't personally craft or buy have to be identified before they can be used to their full potential. ->
- Weapon parameters currently include: damage, speed, range, area of effect (shape and size), accuracy, mobility. ->
- Humans will be able to use cannons in sieges. They will be phallic. ->

"Weapons that you didn't personally craft or buy have to be identified before they can be used to their full potential"
Hello Diablo my old friend. The more I read about this game the more I'm getting hyped for it.
-
haha, phallic cannons...okay then
-
@robinhoodrs same here. Love that this will be included.
-
Unarmed? That's kinda interesting, i wonder how the parameters for that will be calculated. Also this is just wishful thinking but boy oh boy would it be nice to be able to dual wield twohanders through some sort of skill/passive.

@Nelchael thanks for recalling the penis cannon

It would look a little silly if humans could do something like that. Maybe primal form Bearkin and/or battle rage Infernals could do it for a short time, they look like they're large enough to make it work without looking like anime characters.

The penis cannon has a special place in my heart.

Better in heart than somewhere else.

Overall seems to look pretty good. I'm pretty excited

@indomitus yeah cross your fingerz :fingers_crossed:

I hope "unarmed" doesn't literally mean "no weapon" - seems something like spiked gloves should still qualify - thinking leather with spikes on outside so grappling is still available. Razor/spiked boots for kicking.
-
@kellewic A real mage should be able to cast spell without using weapons. Like a monk should be able to punch and kick without weapons.
-
@kellewic from what I can see, it seems to mean literally unarmed combat, as in weaponless.

Of course they should, but adding a few subtle "unarmed" enhancing items would be fun. It shouldn't take a lot of extra skill to kick someone with a spiked boot or leather gloves with small spikes on them? A martial artist can still make unarmed strikes with spiked gloves - just enhanced a little by the gloves. Kicking with a foot is still kicking whether I have a bare foot or steel toe boots.

Mage can cast without any items, but not as potent as he can if he has a wand that serves as magic conduit, or having other items that boost your spell powers.
So yeah sure, mage can cast without any weapon (wand), but a potency of spells cast like that should be mediocre at best.
-
@nelchael
he is a fighter
-
Dual polearms would be be nice

that's not really right (this has been said in the last Q&A):

- There's no strictly better gear. Gear is situational. Gear doesn't make you more powerful.
-
Plz no dual wielding two handers... ffs

I could have sword than it was possible if you have high enough strength (like over 20), but I can't find where I thought I read it. Maybe I'm just mixing it up with another game.
