Rotatable Camera?
-
Just wondering if we'll have the ability to rotate the camera? I found an Alpha (steam early access) game that is isometric but also allows the user to rotate the camera around the player and it's awesome! First time I've experienced it.
Made this quick video showing how a rotating camera could work: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/230118435

I would like to see what you mean :). If you have time take a look there and tell me if it's something like that. I tryed out that game. That camera was really bad for me I'm totally unskiled.
-
you remember in wow where you can move the camera, same principle but the camera is stuck at the height.
-
I have very recently started playing Path of Exile and the inability to do just that brings me some kind of motion sickness.
-
Yes please! Nothing worse than the camera getting stuck behind some leaves with no way to turn the camera.

@jetah it's possible due the WASD movement. How can you manage it with a click to move if you need the mouse to turn the camera?

this game uses A/S to rotate the camera. it's click to move, and my wrist hurts with only 4 hours into it.

i would actually prefer a locked camera. if the game's combat system is going to be like an arpg like they have said before, the camera should be similar too. being in locked camera would also give the player a better immersive experience.

Unusual, what's the name of the game? I think locked it's better but I will take a look

The Ability to rotate the camera in a sandbox game is essentiell.
At least i see it this way, because you need to see what you do!
Also for exploring is it really good if there where a possibility to rotate to watch out the area.
Also for Roleplay... whats more boring to sit in a Tavern and drinking your beer and you just look straight forward whole Roleplaytime, nooo way for a good and interactive Roleplaying.

Problem is people who are moving south don't have the fov that those moving north have, thus giving an advantage to the southerners moving north. with a rotating camera, those moving south can see just as much as those moving north.
@Finland Wolcen there aren't many videos where we see the camera rotating.

"keep the wheel pressed to turn the camera" Looks not bad from a youtube gameplay video but It's something I would like to test before say what I really think . Nice game anyway.
-
i use A and D to move it just as easily. when you hit an area to the left and it's a long pathway, you can rotate the camera so the character is running 'north' toward the top of the screen. I may get on twitch and stream a bit of it to show you.
-
@jetah I just watched a gameplay where a guy was using the wheel to turn the camera I found it better than using the keyboard. Anyway I have to go now but If you are up on late night I'll watch the stream
-
if you saw it, that's all that matters. I could post it here so others can watch but that's about it.

How can you manage [a rotate-able camera] with a click to move if you need the mouse to turn the camera?
I would like to introduce you to an MMO called Ragnarok Online, which is click to move with a rotatable, zoomable camera. It came out in 2002/03/04, is still ongoing, and at higher character levels remains one of the fastest MMOs I've ever played.
We as modern gamers are blessed in that there are at least three buttons on every modern mouse. Lclick to move & attack, Rclick (Shift+Lclick) to rotate camera, mousewheel (Ctrl+Lclick) to zoom.
The Shift and Ctrl options also let you reset the camera's rotation and zoom by double-clicking.
being in locked camera would also give the player a better immersive experience.
I'm really sick of people using "immersive" as a euphemism for "this is what I want".
"Immersive" means a game world feels real or is vividly detailed either graphically or in content / lore. A game world does not feel more real or vividly detailed from not being able to look around or examine objects and scenery from multiple angles, rather the opposite actually.
In particular, rotating the camera means secret passages, chests, or neat details can be hidden on the "dark side" of something, i.e. a rotatable camera adds an exploration element, i.e. is more "immersive". (Fractured is an exploration-based game, by the by.)
