[FRAC-1769] Equipped shield weight class counts even if shield is not active

SO thrilled to get into the game. Thanks to who fixed that 'loading world' issue.
On to the next fun challenge...The game wouldn't let me cast in my original gear. I got an error msg that sd I had to have 'light armor' to use my mage spells, but original gear on my mage toon said it was light armor. <shrug>
Decided to go ahead and craft scholar's gear and hope that would help. No joy (see screenshot). Spells memorized are greyed out as unusable, just as in the original gear. Tried logging out and then back in... No joy. That's all my troubleshooting for now.
So I'll try again tomorrow with my fighter built toon. Skin a different cat.
Didn't see any similar issues when I searched the forum, so thought I'd leave this here just in case.

Resolution on my phone is a bit blurry, but it looks to me like you have an axe and shield equipped as well which is considered medium gear and I believe wouldn’t allow you to cast. Try unequipping those and see if it lets you then.
As a side note you don’t need an axe equipped to chop trees and such, it just has to be in your inventory

@PeachMcD The picture is too low a resolution to see what it is. I trust you did this already, but double check all pieces of your gear that u have on are within the requirements and not just the chestplate (i'm assuming that's what u r hovered over).
Also, check to see if your shield is out while u have your wand equipped, coz that could be the issue.

That doesn't matter. All that matters is what your primary weapon slot currently is (and shield if it is in use) and what other armour and accessory gear you have equipped.
I was casting spells just fine as a mage when i had a bow in the first weapon slot and an axe in the second.

You need to unequip shield

Need a light shield (yours is medium) and probably mage/unarmed for weapon

@PeachMcD could it be that you swapped your weapons on accident with tab? if you have the staff in your hands you should be able to use all the skills you have equipped atm

Maybe it's a bug with shields, but you can't cast spells as long as you have a medium one in the shield slot.
