How important is choosing a race?

  • TF#1 - WHISPERER

    I've read this just now:

"If you enjoy a cooperative and defensive gameplay in a peaceful community, look no further: Arboreus is your new home."

Does that mean if I choose to play beastmen I am agreeing to this concept of peacefulness and there are some sort of restrictions on PvP or something like that?

What does that introduction of a race mean? Is it just a lore element or an actual mechanic that impacts your gameplay based on the race you chose?

  • @hellzer yes, HEAVY restrictions. Actually RACE and STATS are only permanent decisions, rest will be learned by playing the game and can be changed any time (just rest near camp fire).

Whole world consists of 3 "worlds":

Tartaros - home of demons - full pvp all day everyday
Syndesia - people - middleroad - pve and pvp (also often under siege by demons)
Abroreus - beastmen - carebear paradise of pve, no bad guys allowed info fairytale land (actually yes, but under HEAVY debuffs)

P.S.: Worry not, if you want to make evil beastmen, you can - you´ll become Abomination and are welcome in Tartaros 😄 ...or be good demon to become angel

seems like humans are the most flexible option then?
And you mentioned under siege... that is by other players, right?

p.s. do you have any advice on early choices I should make if I want to be PvP oriented character?

game is still in alpha so it's possible any choices you make now can be changed/balanced.

Are there any obvious advantages of being of a certain archetype over the other due to in-game imbalance or other reason? For example: mage vs melee, mage vs ranger, ranger vs assassin?

Also do I have to pick a certain race and family to have the possibility of maxing out attributes past 18 or 20 cap? For example a mage that wants more than 20 int. I need to be of a certain family right?

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

    @hellzer

as of right now, yes, certain 'breeds' of beast/demon will be better certain gameplay type.

personally i'd prefer if they were all the same and let us choose it for cosmetic reasons.

I saw that but I wanted some personal thoughts if someone already played.

Also... According to that race/family sheet.

Blue - easier to cap out?
    Green - raises the cap?

Or blue also raises the cap?
Because the example given just below that picture says that Blue also raised the cap.

"To exemplify, let’s say you’ve selected a Beastman character of the Nheedra family – a strong breed, but quite slow in reflexes and not the most apt to charm others (it’s a bear, after all…). You’re then able to raise your Strength and Constitution up to 20, but your Dexterity and Charisma only up to 16."

  • @asspirin Ah, we can move from one planet to another with the same character? I only loosely followed Fractured's development, but I was under the impression that each planet is a different server with specific thematic (pve only, pvp allowed and full loot pvp).
So, all in all, this is just like Albion with blue, yellow and red/black zones. However, they said you can progress to the endgame in blue zones. How will the game economy be balanced based on this?

Yes you can move to any planet with any character BUT all race will have slightly different way for it, demon will suffer very heavy debuff on Arboreus and won't stay as long as human would be but it would be far easier for demon than human to get there, at the same time beastmen will have buff on Arboreus, no buff nor debuff on Syndesia and debuff on Tartaros (mirrored version of the demon if you want).

For the Tartaros invasion on Syndesia it's from the place of both of those world in this universe, they are kinda like Earth and Moon, each time they are in the right position it's time for an eclipse (here a far easier time for demon to invade and roam Syndesia).

It's all from memories, if i made any mistakes please correct me 😉

Combat is not balanced yet, most skills are not implemented yet. So not fair to compare those yet, just imput for the devs in Beta.

So far in Alpha we only can play as a human, and the bonus from the knowledge tree is not implemented yet. That article is a far as our knowledge goes on this subject

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

Chose your race primarily based on how much pvp you want during your gameplay, and then secondary based on what school of magic you want to specialise in.
    Aesthetics are last factor here.

  • @Gothix I too hope schools of magic will demand secondary stat as well (as 11 out of 14 schools are int based), nonetheless all races except hellfire demon, wolf and tiger can get natural 20 in Inteligence, so almost everyone can go pure mage path (not that int 20 is a requirement for it).
