New NPC Faction: Demon Hunters
Suggestion for new NPC faction:
DEMON HUNTERS
Introduction
I can see how demonical and diabolic creatures roams the lands of Tartaros, but on top of that there should be something different and lore wise. I was inspired to make this suggestion when I saw @Jetah's thread; Ideas for Tartaros mobs. Thank you Jetah for that.Demon Hunters is a NPC faction, which mainly consist of humans, and they operate in planet Tartaros. I do not want to exclude possibility of beastmen to be members, but their numbers will be in minority if there are any.
Background & Lore
Some people will not put much value on lore, but to me (and hope for most of us) it is a really important part of the game. Lore is the piece what keeps everything together. Sometimes you can not see it, but it is still there somewhere at the background, and making the world interesting and especially believable. Even we are living in fantasy world, things still needs to have rules, meaning and make sense. Otherwise it would not be fantasy anymore and then it might go more on non-sense genre. It is relatively easy to create lore and background stories around concepts of Demon Hunters. Demons as playable race makes it actually possible and also interesting. We have used to hunt down demons in other games, but now the situation has turned around.
Members of this faction comes from different backgrounds, but there is one important and common reason which unites them all. Hate against demons. Usually demons have caused death and sorrow for members of Demon Hunters when slaughtering their friends, family and community members. However, hate against demons is not enough get access to this faction. Demon Hunters have to be also fearless and skillful warriors who does not try to avoid any clash with demons. Demon Hunters have tear away from influence of Syndesia and they do not acknowledge any kings or rulers. They have separated from everyone and they are on their own.
Motives & Goals
Demon Hunters main motive is revenge. They have dedicated their lives for hunt down demons using any actions necessary. Sometimes this means sacrifices for larger good. Every killed demon gives Hunters a lot of satisfaction and many of them are addicted to that feeling. Main goal is to perish all Demons from the world or at least make them lives as hard as possible when trying to accomplish this primary mission.Alignment
Evil and/or neutral. I can not put Demon Hunters only under one alignment. Demon Hunters acts hostile (as evil) against all Demons, Angels and Abominations. Those does not deserve any mercy in their eyes.Demon Hunters does not have allies. They do not cooperate with other factions even they would have the same enemy. They act like neutrals against every other than demons regardless of their race and background. So they are not automatically hostile against everyone, but they are not willing to help others either. We have to remember, that Demon Hunters do not like anyone who intrudes their zones (outsiders could jeopardize their existence) and there they might be hostile against everyone regardless of the race.
Way of acting
Demon Hunters live mainly in Tartaros, but they have some recruitment and supplement camps in other planets too. In Tartaros, they live under the surface, hiding in caves and tunnels, in secret camps and outposts. They are hiding so deep, that even Babilis has hard time to find and see them.Players needs to be careful with Demon Hunters, which usually organizes dangerous ambushes and can surprise careless players. However, demons are demons after all and they will do everything needed to banish Demon Hunters from their lands. Demon Hunters use infiltration and guerrilla tactics, because they do not have enough numbers to start open war. If they would have enough members, they would cause a planet wide mayhem.
Meaning & Point
As a NPC Faction Demon Hunters are one of the antagonists for players and guilds who live in Tartaros. So some PvE activities there are related to Demon Hunters faction. You may not find Demon Hunters roaming everywhere like some creatures, but you can find them lurking in shadows, dungeons and hinterlands. So it is easy to implement camps, dungeons and raids around Demon Hunter theme. Demon Hunters are not the easiest enemies imo and I would rank them about average or a little above what it comes to danger level, but I would still leave room for more powerful PvE mobs and creatures. I can imagine that there are monsters much more dangerous than puny humans.Ranks
Demon Hunters are lead by a council (total of five members). Council consist of masters from each class. There is only one master / class in council and all masters are equal among each other. Classes are Demon Slayer, Demon Piercer, Demon Cleanser, Demon Scorcher and Demon Stabber. Inside classes there is of course some ranks as well. So there can be for example Demon Slayer Lieutenant or captain to make other mobs stronger than others.Demon Slayer
-
Slayers are melee damage dealers who can use different variety of weapons, normally using swords, axes and spears. They wear leather, studded leather or chain armors.
-
Slayers drives easily to bloodlust in middle of the fight. This makes them stronger and do more damage, but at the same time this sacrifices something from defence (like parry).
Demon Piercer
-
Piercers are ranged damage dealers who uses mainly hand-crossbows or bows. In some special situations they can use heavier crossbows or even ballistas. They wear leather armors.
-
Piercers do not focus only to do damage. They aim for weak spots to slow down their enemies and can even shoot harpoons with ropes to pull fleeing enemies closer. They also have some camouflage skills which makes targeting them harder.
Demon Cleanser
-
Cleansers are mainly healers, but they can do some holy damage with spells as well. They wear cloth and/or leather armors.
-
Cleansers uses some debuffs as well, which especially weakens demon-kin creatures and characters.
Demon Scorcher
-
Scorchers are magic damage dealers and their main school of magic could be something, which is effective against demons. They wear cloth and/or leather armors.
-
Scorchers specialities are AoE spells.
Demon Stabber
-
Stabbers are melee damage dealers and distractors. They use mainly daggers, traps, poisons, nets and wear leather armors.
-
Stabbers are not as strong as Slayers, but they are more unpredictable. They can control the crowd with interrupting surprise attacks and hide back in shadows if needed.
Every Demon Hunter has passive ability Hate Demons. It gives them slight damage boost when fighting against demons, angels and abominations.
Demon Hunters are not usually carrying anything too heavy, because they need to move and hide fast when necessary. That is why tanks are extremely rare in their ranks and maybe does not exist at all. Sometimes we can see huge ballistas in use if Demon Hunters are after a large demonic monster.
At the end, the most important thing related for classes of this faction is, that the core is in hunting and demons. So abilities and AI should be thought from that point of view. I do not want to see just mindless nuke.
Name & Logo
Even Demon Hunters could be generally called Demon Hunters, this faction could still have official name as well. It should be somehow lore wise and suitable for theme. I was wondering something related for anti-eclipse (because eclipse is time of demons). So something related to sun, illumination, light and things like that. Maybe there is a sun in faction logo as well.. Any ideas?Options
Even this faction is meant for PvE, I do not see it impossible to expand this idea and make it possible for players to join different factions too. That is ofc a whole own topic, but could be interesting feature. Finally
I guess this is enough to give first impression what I have in my mind and I will add more information later if needed. I am also interested of opinions and ideas from other community members. Do you think there is room for faction like this? -

RE: Offensive/Defensive Raiding Mechanics
What it comes for PvP sieges and conquers, I would like to see siege weapons at both sides, which are of course player crafted and player controlled. Maybe both sides could capture and hold some tactical points to get some benefits as well. Because taking advantage of environment will be a thing in Fractured, I would also like to see possibility to spread oil on the battleground and/or over players, and then set them on fire for example. Maybe even crafters or players who don't want to participate so much for fighting could build or repair walls and siege weapons, and help that way.

RE: Bought the Governor pack
@Pluto said in Bought the Governor pack:
how land takeover/town ownership will work for beastmen?
@Specter said in Bought the Governor pack:
@Pluto They can claim land on Arboreus just like the other races can claim land on their planets. Only difference is the lack of PvP on Arboreus, so Beastmen cities cannot be besieged/conquered.
I was wondering.. What if towns and cities in Arboreus would face sieges from PvE factions.

RE: State Of The Game #2 β On 2018, Alpha 1 & Unity
@Immortal-Great Actually full release is planned to launch 2021 Q3. DS is a little bit behind from original schedule already, so there can be some delay also with upcoming test phases.
Personally I do not take much stress from delays. This is quite normal what it comes to my experience, and it is better to test out properly rather than launch incomplete product.
Here is latest information of Development Roadmap

RE: I suggest to continue the Foundation program
@Jetah said in I suggest to continue the Foundation program:
I agree with you Jetah most part, but this one sentence is something I personally see differently. Foundation will be finished at some point and imo it is when product is finished and ready for launch. Then the base is done. That does not mean stop of development or repair actions what are still needed. The game itself won't be finished ever, but the foundation comes to end at some point. Even games like EvE or WoW, which are giants in own category and has long lifecycle already, still those new expansions and fixes are not part of foundation progress anymore. If we think of this from business point of view, foundation is related to founders and funding. These parts steps aside when product is ready and makes profit from sales. Then we have buyers and invests instead.
-
RE: I suggest to continue the Foundation program
Foundation program should imo end after beta 2 and just before release. Then the base has finished and the product is ready for launch.
Well ofc there can be some kind of program, but the content and the name needs some update so those will cater better post-release situation.

RE: Increase of isometric perspectives games
Diablo 2, Runescape and Albion Online. Especially in Albion that isometric camera angle works pretty well so I am confident that Fractured will nail that too.

RE: What is called human transform for Beastman?
@Eurav said in What is called human transform for Beastman?:
@Tuoni said in What is called human transform for Beastman?:
I do not know what I was thinking yesterday.
ThatΒ΄s what I ask myself a lot of times as well,
@Eurav said in What is called human transform for Beastman?:
We see Lich as evil because that is how it is used most of the times, but it did not strike me as weird, just because they are using it differently. It is something "new" and for me a Lich is more of an undead magic caster than an evil being, so since they keep true to the first one, I donΒ΄t really care about the rest
But yeah, if we have transformation for every alignment, Lich should be evil or neutral. I think if they are considering something like this, they probably would not make a transformation for neutral (since Jacopo said in a Q&A video that he thinks this would not make sense), so in that case Lich -> evil
New stuff is something what gets me interested as well. However, as long as it makes sense to me. I generally really like Fractured's races and it is fresh to see demons and beastmen as playable races. And yeah, my problem with liches comes how I have experienced those in other games, fantasy based movies and fantasy literature. To me lich is an undead caster as well, but when talking about undead or lich, those are both evil creatures in my mind. I am pretty sure I represent the majority here, however, it does not mean I and other like minded are right. Liches are interesting concept no arguments there, I think I just need to digest this good lich a little bit more and maybe one day I can regard to it better.

RE: What are you playing until release?
Ashes of Creation is still something what I am interested with and I am waiting to see how it will flesh out. I tried to go back to Albion Online, but I just could not get the spark anymore. I have recently tested WoW vanilla in private servers. Atm I am only playing Age of Magic mobile game as a filler, but most likely going to stop that soon too because lack of content..
Mostly I am waiting to start of Fractured alpha 1. I am going to buy one package and test Fractured for sure, but I am still wondering when to actually jump in. So I want to see first does Alpha 1 look something I want to try already or should I still wait start of next alpha or even betas.

RE: I suggest to continue the Foundation program
@Specter said in I suggest to continue the Foundation program:
Back before we decided to hold drawings, we considered rewarding forum members with points everytime they made a good post, good suggestion, etc. In the end we didn't do it because I wanted to avoid accusations of favoritism. (Why didn't I get points for my crappy suggestion???). Therefore it's unlikely we will do such thing in the future.
Hmmmm.. Well it is your game and you have rights to reward who ever you want to. Well its a choise between reward helpfull posts and answer few negative feedback or not reward helpfull post at all. How much accusations of favoritism you actually think you would get? Does not sound something that would happen a lot. If you have considered rewarding good posts, imho you were on the right track there.

RE: What is called human transform for Beastman?
@Eurav said in What is called human transform for Beastman?:
@Tuoni If Human -> Beastmen should be a thing, Human -> Demon should also be possible. Humans are the jack of all trades. Since the Humans are responsible for the destruction of Elysium, I would actually say they are closer to Demons than Beastmen, but Humans can be anything... can be as "good" as Beastmen and can be as "evil" as Demons.
If there would be one of those transformations, we would need both
Yeah, but then Lich would obviously be that evil one and that good/beastman form is what we are still missing. That is what I have said all the time. Lich is about x1000 closer evil rather than good,
and like you said, lore wise humans are closer evil because what they have done. My problem is, that I just can't see Lich as good transform. It just don't make sense to me.EDIT: I strikethrough that sentence, even I agree with it, but it has nothing to do with my point. I do not know what I was thinking yesterday.

RE: What is called human transform for Beastman?
@Esher said in What is called human transform for Beastman?:
As we already have Wolfkin and Vampires
Because of this I guess we should forget vampire and werewolf forms. Those are too close what we already have. I was actually hoping we would see Lich as evil transform and then we would have one spot still open (human -γbeastman). Now it seams that this won't happen because Lich can be anything..

RE: I suggest to continue the Foundation program
@FibS Yeah daily, week and month rewards are quite standard in many games nowadays. Especially in mobile games where players are lured log in several times in a day. I guess this is spreading more to PC gaming too.

@Tuoni said in I suggest to continue the Foundation program:
And if devs notices that some people are doing valueable job when finding bugs and reporting them, why not reward those people?
So you want to give rewards to people because they were luckier / spent more money than others on the game(going with people who were invited to Pre - Alpha / bought Alpha vs people who e.g. only bought beta 2)? The current Foundation System is completely money and "luck" unrelated, which in my opionion is a very good thing, so if they are going to continue with the Foundation I hope it will stay like this
That is not what I actually meant. People can also make valueable suggestions based on content what they have seen or what they have told, and they can focus on aspects which are not actually in game yet. Of course those who have access to the game may be in better situation, but maybe it is acceptable. I do not want to exclude those people who have not bought the Alpha 1 package and can jump later on. If you can contribute different ways like atm, that is good. Just making few changes to current program and it will be enough.
@Eurav said in I suggest to continue the Foundation program:
@Tuoni said in I suggest to continue the Foundation program:

Guess I was too hung up with the past / present there Ye, you are right, I certainly would not mind giving additional rewards to people who contributed / are going to contribute to the game in the future. If such a system will be implemented, I just hope that everyone will have the same chance to participate in it.
Okay, so we agree with this one.

@Meiki said in I suggest to continue the Foundation program:
They could also add find and report a bug on the forum/via in-game methods and assign some points to those that are actively testing and finding the bugs to squash.
Additionaly points for bugs will probably only end up in the devs getting spammed with duplicate / unnecessary bug reports, so I doubt that this is a great idea as well.
Or maybe it really encourages players to report bugs and not just play the game. There is nothing wrong with duplicate reports, those just back ups and gives more proof that there is a bug or an issue. Sometimes later done reports add new information related to the same case. And if devs notices that some people are doing valueable job when finding bugs and reporting them, why not reward those people?
@Eurav said in I suggest to continue the Foundation program:
@Tuoni said in I suggest to continue the Foundation program:
So we shouldn't just rank people how long they have been here, when more important is how much they have actually contributed and how much they will in future during upcoming ingame tests. Amen.
Well, if we go with that, I doubt that there really are many people who actually contributed to the devs more than the rest (outside of advertising the game or investing money into the game). Just being registered and inviting friends already helps a lot.
The vision that Dynamight Studios has for their game is very clear, so community made speculations are not really that important yet. They will be, when we get to see what the vision includes, so we can voice our problems with them / additions that would be great to have. This is also one of the reasons why the forum is pretty quiet. Most things are already pretty well thought out, and to actually experience them / see how they will work in the game we first need to actually play the game.
So... people who have been here longer, automatically already contributed more than people who joined later. I am sure there are also people who have been active previously, or maybe even before the foundation, that did not recieve any additional rewards for that.
I am not speaking just from this point to beginning. I am speaking from the beginning to the launch. And between that time it is more important to reward more those who have actually done something meaningful and helpful. That how much current members have contributed is totally personal. Some have done more and some have just hanged there as freebies. And because current system is what it is, I suggested to make some changes to foundation program, so it would cater better upcoming test phases, where is more value on testing, feedbacks and suggestions.
Foundation program is generally a really good thing, it is not perfect and it has few flaws, but why not fix those flaws and make it even better? Whose butt will hurt from that? Only those who wants to get easy access for rewards.

I have no idea, I don't play that many a modern MMORPG, but I seriously doubt it.
But now I am a little bit confused. How you know all those described features and even some additional benefits can be easily done if you do not have anything to refer with? Any game?

RE: How I imagine starting on Tartaros would be...
@Jetah said in How I imagine starting on Tartaros would be...:
@Tuoni
i like the ability to chat to guild mates whether in game or not. If Discord was used then I could be in chat all the time via mobile, pc or in game. to me that's a great system. Sure there would be limitations, like item links but i believe those could be structured like HTML links so that clicking it would do the normal popup in game or open your browser to the item's DB page.imagine getting home and seeing on your mobile that an attack will happen soon. you know then that you need to get on by x time so you can do somethings prior to the attack. if it was in game only, then you'd get a notification via discord on your phone on the events happening in game and that you need to be online now.
i played a game where the group (it was a 4-5 player coop arena match) was put in a discord voice chat to speak to each other. we could use the text chat but no one did. to me that was brilliant, let the company that specializes in communication do their thing and you just use parts of it. that's probably cheaper than developing your own voice chat system.
Well if the integration between the game and Discord would work without loosing any features, then it would be absolutly fantastic, no arguments there. Discord will be used by almost every guild anyways which would make all process smooth for sure. I am pretty sure you will get notification of incoming attacks already and someone will post a message to discord when that happens.
If I have understood right, Ashes of Creation is working with app, which you can use outside of the game to chat, but on top of that do some minor stuff without using computer. Like controlling your servants, managing your shop and farm, and things like that. That sounds also pretty awesome.

@Pluto said in I suggest to continue the Foundation program:
As someone who has been around awhile, since the Kickstarter... I probably COULD have gotten those higher tier rewards. But, I didnβt. I decided to wait until the game started getting fleshed out a bit more before becoming active.
I honestly think they should be for those who battled it out from the beginning. Itβs a nice thank you to them.
I actually did the same almost a year ago when I found Fractured and registered as an user. There wasn't much concrete content which is why I personally left to wait more to happen.
I have to partly disagree with you what it comes to rising pedestal those who have been here long. I don't want to take anything away from them, but honestly a good amount of points are came from meaningless daily quest posts and daily bonus points. Especially during several months backwards when forums have been more or less dead. So I would not put that much value on those. Also most of the conversations from past have been more or less speculations (like still are) or devs answering to players' questions. I am confident, that devs have got some good ideas from community, but we have to remember, that the most important test parts are still coming. So we shouldn't just rank people how long they have been here, when more important is how much they have actually contributed and how much they will in future during upcoming ingame tests. Amen.

RE: Ideas for Tartaros mobs
The headline of OP was good and gave me one idea of NPC faction for Tartaros. I will get back to this later.. What it comes to those puppies.. Maybe lil bit too cute as mobs for planet Tartaros, but could work as pets.
