RE: Alpha 2
what I'd hope the devs with avoid is the b.s. seen in some games in the 'freemium' sphere: launching the game as an 'open beta' that never quite stops being a beta so gives devs seemingly endless cover for bugs & glitches. DisruptorBeam came in for a lot of forum criticism for this transparent charade. I've seen other games I didn't play get called out for it in reviews that warned me away....

RE: Fan Weapon Type
@Pluto said in Fan Weapon Type:
Iβd rather they kept away from the anime tropes that are currently hitting the major MMOs. Iβd much rather see more unique things from like the Persians or something haha
Wouldnβt be too angry either way, would just prefer something a little more refreshing
definitely want to second this emotion. Nothing against anime (or Tolkien) per se, but with a world full of so many cultures to mine for tropes, hanging ten on the anime wave (or previous nordic-heavy fantasy realms) doesn't feature our devs' creativity the way adding the coolest costumes/weapons/mythos from less 'mined' areas would.
Persian sounds fun - so do Aztec & Ibo, Mauri & Tlingit.
Creating a fantasy space is one place that cultural appropriations can be truly constructive moves (c.f., N.K. Jemison's Hugo-winning spins of pan-African mythos)

RE: About This Forum Engine
@GreatValdus - Welcome!
I don't know squat about forum engines, but I do know this forum has created a superb community. @Specter & the devs have done a great job of keeping things relatively civil, and responding amazingly promptly to player concerns.
I believe the game model - avoiding P2W - has attracted a more copacetic group than any other game forum I've been on. There's some friction, to be sure, but there's very few of the 'I paid lots of my good money so you must listen or I will stamp my foot and slam the door' crowd I got used to seeing run forums for previous games.
Again, welcome! Looking forward to seeing you in-game! Meanwhile, allow me to recommend that you scout the recruiting posts on this forum & discord to find a guild that's a good fit. Way more fun and perks playing w a guild.

Thanks, @Specter for once again being right there when we need you!

RE: Requisite for casting magic
@Farlander said in Requisite for casting magic:
Usually magical attacks do alot more damage in games than physical attacks that I have played. That is why there are certain restrictions such as what armor you can wear, what weapons you can wield (if any), cooldowns between casts, not being able to move while casting....It's all about having a decent balance with all forms of combat. Every game I have seen eventually some form filters toward the top as everyone starts to play that style. Then the nerf hammer comes and rebalances lol. Mix pvp and pve and now you have a whole new balance issue. It always seems to be a vicious cycle of balancing.
This is astute and important. Also, I love the mental image of the nerf hammer.
When I picture my Wolfling, I don't visualize her depending on majik for personal safety, but I hope she'll be proficient in some protective spells that a wise elder would not want to leave home without, e.g., 'light/torch', 'translate', ''secure knot', 'spider-climb', & 'charm'. No weapons involved, but any of these might save her life.

RE: Next test phase
I have a very mixed metaphor mental image: the devs with their noses to the grindstone trying to get the next test up without any more delay than necessary, while we all are chasing our tails looking for something new to talk about in here.
Patience never has been a gamer virtue but we're not gonna make anything happen faster by stamping our little feet. -
RE: Zenith, capital of the Kingdom of Meridian - a nexus of community/politics/trade
Sounds like the Beastling Pack will want to have a shop set up there to connect off-world folk looking to travel to Arborea with our 'Happy Trails Crew'

RE: Bail is not 50/50 to the Town/Bounty-Hunter
@Kralith - I'm not a governor so I'm not sure what the difference is btw gold going to 'Town' and going to 'tax'?
Your post on this is important - the bounty/jail system is a main focus of this test, and needs to work as planned/advertised -
RE: Reserve a name separately?
Hi @Gonky! Not exactly sure what you mean by 'reserve a name' but once you Plonky down your subscription at any level you can create a character that has a name. It's not the game PC, but unless the name you want to reserve is uncreative in the extreme & predictably high-demand (e.g., TigerNutz, LapDancer, LeroyJ... ) I can't see it being a problem.
Start at the lowest level if you want to limit your investment. You can always bump it up. Come on in, the water's fine!

RE: Optimistic, but Hesitant
@Gibbx said in Optimistic, but Hesitant:
@FrostyWimbly So far this game has given every signal that optimism is warranted. That being said nothing is without risk. Personally Fractured is offering everything I am looking for in a game. When I decided to back if financially I risked nothing more than I was willing to loose. I have thrown a lot of time into the community, but have enjoyed that very much. The community has already provided my initial investment's worth. I believe the dev's will put out a solid product. it doesn't have to be 'great' just a nice solid game making good on their premise. This is a good community and I am looking forward to adventuring with them!
First: I want to ditto exactly what @Gibbx said.
I don't have a lot of $$ to plow into gaming, so I've played LOTS of 'freemium' games that ding you endlessly w commercials and micro-transactions, only to be dominated by the P2W whalemonsters. I'm trying a new thing here - paying up front for the whole game, with a level field and lots of room for variety and creativity.
It's your money, @FrostyWimbly. Feel free to lurk and get to know this community, if that will help you decide. We'll be happy to welcome you, whenever you take the plunge!

RE: Zenith, capital of the Kingdom of Meridian - a nexus of community/politics/trade
@Alexian & @LilCassiopeia - WOW! So funny to have zero time ingame and already clients at the door. Really looking forward to getting to know my neighborhood mobs once the beta is open lol

RE: You can sleep at a fireplace without entering the building
@Greenfire - get a few more out there with you and it'll look like any urban public library at night.
I speak as someone who works at an urban public library AND advocates relentlessly for actually affordable housing. -
RE: Foundation chests
@Jetah said in Foundation chests:
actually that isn't (completely) true. completionist exist!
There are 4 types of game play in which Wildstar built game play around the 4 major types of players.
compSo, I looked up the 4 types out of curiousity, and to save others the time they are: Combat, Explorer, Scientist, and Settler. I guess any of those 'Paths' might accommodate a completionist player that needed to finish every single part of their chosen path... but wouldn't a real completionist need to finish ALL THE PATHS?

RE: DΓΉath port town of Arboreus
@StormBug & @GamerSeuss - my toon will be joining the fun in Duath this time around too! Like y'all, I tend to be more the lone explorer than the city party-goer, and will be using the city more as a springboard than a home.
That said, a big part of the A2T3 is to get comfortable with and test out the brand spankin new city coding, so it will help ALL of us if we spend some time in town and build stuff and junk like that. @LilCassiopeia has indeed claimed a sweet spot on the map, so I'm thinking it'll be way fun.
Looking forward to seeing you in-game!

RE: Healing
Great question! I assumed that it would be easy to find the answer btw the wiki and @Vengu 's amazing service, 2 'Compilation of Everything' threads. Was gonna copy/paste here for you. But couldn't find what you are specifically looking for. On the wiki I found a Word of Power spell that can heal a critter. The compendium talks about combat but I couldn't find anything specific about healing. Tagging Vengu in case they can enlighten us.
Looking forward to learning the answer myself! Glad you asked this!!

RE: Choice of music for towns
I love this idea!
I love it, regardless of the fact that I routinely disable music in games I play.
I love it because it will make the game world richer & more immersive, and allow players' spaces to evolve according to player choices.THANKS, @Cotrabotieso !!

RE: Zenith, capital of the Kingdom of Meridian - a nexus of community/politics/trade
@Alexian - I am still hoping to win an alpha key and join the test. Praying that @Specter will have pity on my broke and about to get laid-off ass and recognize all the socmed posts I've added to the 'win a key' thread. But maybe one of your guys won one they don't need?
I'm not proud. I'm begging here. Just wanna play.
