Expansions and future content
-
I get that this game is already different from basically everything, but how will future content release? Expansions like every other game or will you guys find a cool ass way to do it? Either way I'd love to know just to get a vibe of things!
-
I hope that if they ever release expansions, it doesn't make the previous content obsolete (like WoW or FFXIV). More options and horizontal progression are better (like GW2), instead of only having the players stagnate to the few new areas.
-
The game isn't even out yet and you're already asking about expansions. I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't even made a decision about that yet.
-
@vengu lol yup, I'm that guy. I was just curious is all !

Eheh we're years away from full release so it's really hard to tell right now. All I can say it's that it's unlikely we'll do actual "expansions" as in "massive updates released every couple years". Following our agile development processes, we'll probably try to release a minor patch every couple weeks and a large content update every 2-3 months.

@prometheus awesome info bud

Thanks prom

@Prometheus On that topic, in the FAQ you guys mention that
- WHAT BUSINESS MODEL WILL FRACTURED FOLLOW?
Fractured will follow a “buy to play” business model. This means that a single initial purchase will give you permanent access to the game, without any content restriction!
Given the above answer, my understanding is that there won't ever be a fee for additional game content beyond the initial purchase. No expansions, no DLCs, no item shop. Am I reading that right?

Judging by Prometheus's various comments on the forum, I don't think they've made a decision yet on monetization beyond the initial box price.

looking forward

@Vengu there will be an item store selling cosmetic enhancements (skins for your character, equipment, pets, etc) - that is pretty much sure. No expansions, DLCs and other forms of content restriction.
-
Good, I dislike the expansion/dlc system...
-
IMHO, too far down the road to say anything atm.
-
I'm sure it will all depend on how well the game will earn money. It's better to get paid DLC then to see the game close because of lack of funds. On the other hand it would be nice to get new free content

@prometheus Is it planned to do some user based cosmetics? Like an art contest and the winner gets some freebies + the art gets implemented?
I personally have no artistic skill, but I'd love to see what the community will create once the mood on the game's atmosphere is set.

Maybe as a Kickstarter reward? A lot of Kickstarters have "design your own X" at higher tiers.

I really like this idea. I once saw a kickstarter who had several design options on the same tier limited to a specific amount (sadly I don't remember which one it was and how many people used these options).
Like "Design a weapon for 100 bucks" (10 people), "Design an armor for 100 bucks" (10 people). I think it's necessary to limit these tiers, cause it may be a lot of work, depending on the backer.

@casgadom A nice idea that you had I vote for !!

I really hope that they limit to the utmost minimum the kind of "design experience", reserving that to top-tier rewards/packages only and/or in a limited way (name this, choose the color of that, etc.). I think they're time-consuming and costly for the developer when done too extensively/in detail.

Well, we don't know anything yet about the Kickstarter tiers and their rewards. It was just a suggestion.
