Pre-alpha server status notification
-
Maybe it is already planned. If not would it be possible to view the pre-alpha server status on this website or forum? I don't live behind my pc, but I do check my phone all the time ofc. It could be as simple as a sticky tread on the forum where only devs can post. I can get a notification then everytime a dev posts there the server is up. Would love to drop whatever I'm doing to test a new build and see if my bugs got fixed.
This would be much appreaciated. Thx!

@benseine
i'm sure they'll just email people and forum post stating the date and time for a test. i seriously doubt they'll all be spontaneous times.
-
when the pré-alpha starts I will already be on vacation so I will stay looking 24 hours every day.
-
@jetah looking at other alpha experiences it might be something like this sometimes:
- servers will be down for 15 mins right now! emergency fix
3h later: - servers are back up
- servers will be down for 15 mins right now! emergency fix
-
@jetah the downtimes are pretty random in my experience. So I would really like to monitor the status on the website or get a notification through the forum.
-
Agree that this is a good idea, and not just for pre-alpha. Testing at any point is often full of ups and downs for the servers as things need priority fixes. Having a simple system for this is a good thing. By simple, I mean it could be as little as an icon that is a different color depending on if the server is up or down.
Having that tied to something like the pre-alpha forum page wouldn't be too tough either, in my own experiences. Granted I haven't done a lot of web design, but even then I have done similar things.

@tulukaruk @Benseine
if the servers are only up for a weekend then i doubt you'll need a monitor. if the server is only up for 5 hours, you wont need a monitor.they'll email, post in the tester section when the test will be. you just have to add that to your phone calendar so you don't miss it.

@jetah Prometheus said servers will be up for days at a time (or at least should be). It's not that important but a 'nice to have' thing. It could basically be a topic in Pre-alpha forum part. One game I've played used stuff like that - locked topic with just title changing. Simple solution that doesn't require any additional programming
-
A simple topic letting you know when the servers are running and more than enough.
-
Depending on their policies, that's something the community is quite capable of itself. If that's the case, I'm sure that somebody is going to take care of it, if not, I'd say the developers have different priorities right now
-
@logain not really. Having the testers spend as much time as possible in the game should be one of top priorities. And that info would help with that - as I said just a topic on forum would be enough - my guess is @Specter will cover that
-
@jetah expect downtimes to happen unannouned! With no certainty when they will go up.
-
@benseine
they have forums, discord, reddit and twitter. i've seen some games go down and take the forums with it. the only communication the devs had was 3rd party.i'm just saying during pre-alpha there's no need because they will only have certain windows for testing. honestly you shouldn't need a post letting you know the game is down when you try to log in and find you can't connect. it's pretty obvious the game is down. hell, the game client/launcher could have it mentioned or a colored dot with text.
-
@jetah there is no need? If the game goes down so be it. But in early stages, like pre-alpha, it's always uncertain when they will go back up. My life is too bussy to wait around my pc for it to go back up. A notification somehow that the server is back up would really help me alot.
-
@benseine
get twitter, i'm sure they'll notify us there too.
-
@jetah no problem, got it. Just want to know if they notify us that way. This is the Q&A section after all and still no awnser from them.
-
I am quite sure, there will be no public information about server status in Pre-Alpha.
Not Twitter, not Facebook, not Discord, nowhere.
Since Pre is under NDA, no informations about anything will be public.The only thing we will get in public is, when Prometheus is posting new Content Pills.
-
I believe they said it would not be up in small intervals but in chunks of days. Hopefully with the idea of either hot fixing things quickly during those blocks or just waiting till between blocks.
-
@kralith
if DS wanted to publish the server status they could. We couldn't say unless it was public information.
-
@jetah But Pre Alpha Member have access to the closed forum. That will be the right place, since no one outside of Pre has to know if the server are up. Would make much sense in my opinion.
