A Delicate Question: Slavery
-
Hello,
First and foremost, I'm totally against slavery in any form, and find it one of the most shameful parts of the world history.
Yet, since there're Demons, who are not particularly nice entities, will they have that kind of labour force to satisfy their needs?
Question inspired by a program on the National Geographic

Good question, that makes sense

Hmm, I've checked the little bits of lore we have and I haven't found anything that indicates slavery yet. In fact, it seems they use humans as food rather than labor. In addition to that, they seem so bloodthirsty that they might not even have the patience to hold slaves. It wouldn't surprise me if they do have slaves though, because like you said, they aren't nice entities.
-
@fyrsey that's interesting
-
@vengu oh no, that makes me think of even nastier possibility: demons could keep people as fresh food
-
In the demon world its hard to get food,
So it would be hard to feed slaves as wellwell
-
I'm all for 18+ mature audience gaming as long as it makes sense and isn't too gratuitous.
+1 for slavery.

Yeah, that makes sense. To be honest at first slavery seemed reasonable, but not after your idea. Why keep slaves? Munch on those humans. sigh Monsters.
But I think that's more fun than slaves.

If I remember correctly they said something about having companions so in a way that will be your slavery heh

It's a multiplayer sandbox?
Everybody you meet is a potential slave.

Slavery doesn´t seem to fit very well in this game, on the other hand being able to hire "mercenaries" to send in away adventures to do some work for you seem a little more reasonable maybe
-
I don't think demons necessarily requires slaves as the theme might be more centered around disorder.

Do you mean player mercenaries? Otherwise I don't know if this would fit entirely with the risk versus reward type of gameplay the devs are promoting here. No WoW garrisons please. Those were only good for making me rich.
-
@vengu I meant both, but each of them working a little different, NPCs you can just hire them for a certain price fixed by the system to do the simplest of the tasks, as for players you can just "create your own quest" or something similar to that, and anyone who wants just accept and do it

What would those NPC mercenaries do? If you send them out to mine or transport goods from one town to another, it reduces risk. For the beastman planet this wouldn't matter too much as it's like 99% PvE, but on the PvP planets the reduction of risk would certainly be an issue.
-
@vengu Yes you got a point there, but something else they could do is have them act as bodyguards for when you transport materials from city to city, since the devs said each city will have it's own werehouse, if you want to send something from one city to another it's better to maybe hire some to protect the transportation, but that also depends on how the NPCs will work, if they are awfully weak there's no point in having them as body guards. One other thing is, even if you send them to mine, I never said they can´t be pickpocketed by players, but then again that depends if the NPCs will be challenging or not
-
I think that in the PVP world there will be another system ...

Why do you feel that it wouldn't fit well?
