    • RE: Character Creation: ideal build analysis, and discussion of initial attribute builds

Another character I've been considering is a Chadra abomination martial artist that relies on mobility skills, divination, and abjuration for defense: 14 str, 20 dex, 14 int, 10 con, 15 per, 10 cha.

One of the interesting things to consider is that evolved races have their stats automatically adjusted; you don't get to reallocate your stats on transformation. The example that was given in the races Q&A was that liches get +int -cha. This would allow you to get higher stats cheaper assuming the increase and decrease are the same. Let's say a chadra that turns abomination gets +2 str -2 dex and before transformation has 18 str and 15 dex; transforming would take them to 20 str (8 creation point difference) and 13 dex (2 creation point difference) giving them a net of +6 creation points.

@dokuwan said in About the VIP membership:

Also i don't get why most people don't see VIP system pay2win or how it doesn't give "significant" advantages. I see it as massive pay2win and giving very significant advantages in it's current state already.

You can only use a small number of skills at once, and your stats put a limit on the effectiveness them. VIP is mostly only useful if you want to collect all skills, which isn't necessary at all as most skills probably won't be useful due to your stat distribution.

remember Valve saying only 3% of people ever use money in Dota2 because it's 0 pay2win and only cosmetics. And that 3% is not going to be enough for what i suspect will be small playerbase game like Fractured.

Dota 2 is free to play. Fractured is buy to play. The people playing Fractured have already established that they're willing to pay money, which would likely mean that figure will be much higher than 3%, there just won't be as many people overall to spend money.

There's no free form building, but there is crafting of larger structures. Everything in a town has to be built up by players.

It seems like it was something that should've motivated players to communicate via forums more

It probably has. I honestly wouldn't be here if I wasn't incentivized to post here at the beginning. I usually don't participate on specific game forums, mostly just on reddit. The problem is, as you've said, the lack of anything to really talk about, but the forum does get a lot more active for awhile after major news updates. And without the daily post thread, you'd get a lot more people spamming "welcome" in the welcome forum, or shitposting, or other low quality posts all over the place so people could get their points. We still get these from time to time when people don't notice the daily post thread.

    • RE: The Lich vs. the Angel and Abomination

@logain The morality of using souls can fit within Fractured's logic for karma:

If killing evil is considered an act of good, it would seem that using an evil soul would be an act of good or at least have no effect on karma. Killing neutral creatures probably won't be considered evil; using a neutral creature soul would be like killing a deer for its food or hide - an act of survival. Killing neutral players is considered evil and so would using their soul. And obviously using a good soul would be an act of evil.

It gets iffy with aggressive or thief flagged neutral players, and the PvP spotlight doesn't make it clear if killing them is consequence-free (it just says you can hurt them without consequence).

When you upgrade, you just pay the difference between the two packs. You get the rewards of the highest pack you paid for which includes everything from the previous tiers.

The wiki just went up a few days so it's not going to have much. If you're looking for more info, there are the spotlights in the news section on the main site that go deeper into specific features (most of them are on the last few pages). Vengu has been keeping up a compilation of knowledge acquired from forum posts here. There have been five youtube Q&A's. Four of them have been summarized: 1st, survival and travel, crafting and building, housing and towns.

high on Int and low on Str will be very squishy

Strength isn't going to make you tankier against anything that isn't directly doing damage to life. If you lose all your endurance then it probably won't matter how much life you have. What might be interesting though, is that strength will likely have synergy with skills that require you to sacrifice life, so strength might be important to builds using necromantic blood magic.

Some like character slots, sure. Others like the custom crest, not decided yet. Others surely not - the Lifetime VIP is a crowdfunding-only reward.

From the beginning it was said to be crowdfunding only. A lot of people misunderstood that as kickstarter only, but that's not really DS's fault.

    • RE: Alignment restricted spells?

You choose your alignment when you rest and your available choices are determined by your karma score. On a scale of -10k to 10k, as long as your karma doesn't drop below -2.5k, you can always choose to be neutral if you're not on a good aligned only area on Arboreus. You can't become so good that you lose your neutral alignment, and I imagine dropping below -2.5k is hard to do accidentally.

only good aligned beast men (while on Arboreus) are prevented from switching away from good alignment.
humans can switch to neutral and then commit a crime

IIRC from one of the Q&As, the restricted areas on Arboreus are good alignment only and alignment changing isn't possible while inside.

@grofire You choose your alignment when you rest. The available choices are determined by your karma and location.

Everyone can learn all the crafting professions and there aren't any levels related to them. You progress in them by learning new recipes, and what recipes you can use is determined by your stat distribution.

    • RE: Abomination races?

Sort of? It depends how you define race. A shadow demon and hellfire demon will turn into different kinds of angels, giving them different racial attributes from both their demon form and each other. By Fractured's definition, they are essentially a new race. If you're asking if they lose all resemblance to their previous form (like in your wolf to rat example), I would guess no, but I don't think we have any concrete info on that.

This picture seems to show that they will still resemble their previous form:

@gothix said in what do you like to see next from the developers?:

You bow your head to noone, not even "gods". Your personality is strong and you see every living being as equal. There are no "gods" just a different species perhaps more advanced ones but none more valuable than other. None that deserves being bowed to.

And then you take up divination to talk shit.

    • RE: Sprays

Things like this are really open to abuse, and would mostly hurt the atmosphere of the game. The amount of people who would use sprays responsibly are far outweighed by those who wouldn't. In theory, I wouldn't be opposed to governors deciding to allow them in their own town, but that opens up a can of worms about what DS should and shouldn't allow, how policing sprays would actually work, the punishment for offenses (should governors decide? DS?), how culpable governors would be for the things that are sprayed (say if someone sprayed swastikas everywhere, and a governor didn't take them down, how should DS respond?), etc.

I think it would be more trouble than it's worth.

    • RE: Skill, and Spell Power

The devs have said that they took inspiration from Guild Wars for the character building, so I'm going to assume it works similarly and each skill will scale off of a single attribute (outside of the inherent benefits you get from attributes). So for the conjuration example, some skills will scale off charisma, and others will scale off int.
