@Nekrage The governor decides who can harvest the resources, it's not free for all. The same applies to "timed" crafting stations like the tanning tubs, those too can be managed by the governor. You can't just join a city and immediately start harvesting their resource nodes, unless you can convince the governor to give you permission to do so.

RE: shitty game
@insomnia But aren't these kind of mechanics present in every game? Gear progression isn't anything new and frankly Fractured is pretty lenient considering it's more about horizontal progression than vertical. The same goes for the death penalty. In most games if you die you go straight to the graveyard, respawn point, etc whereas in Fractured you only lose 15% of your max life when your HP reaches 0, effectively giving you 6 lives before you actually die.
At least in PvE that is. Criticism is fine, but please keep it constructive.

RE: Garbage game for Garbage humans.
@Mindframe Right now only one of the PvP planets is available, however the plan is for Fractured to have 3 planets with 3 different rulesets, one of them being a PvE planet for those who want to avoid PvP. They're also equal, so you don't have to go to the hardcore PvP planet for the best resources.
The devs know that not everyone wants to PvP.

RE: Questions for roadmap for planet design
Financially they're in a great spot right now, by far the best spot they've been in since the start of development. There have been a bunch of very succesful investment rounds since last summer. I cannot say how much they've raised so far but it's a lot of money, hence why they're able to double the team size. Last time I talked with Prometheus about it he told me they had already hired 3 new devs. (2 artists and a programmer I believe) and he was still looking for more.
As for the release date, I don't know if they're still aiming for 2022 (I'll have to ask Prometheus) but I do know that should the launch be postponed, it's not going to cause financial issues anytime soon based on the current information I have.
With that said, I can confirm they're certainly already working on the next planet. I can't talk about the internal roadmap though so I'll leave it at that.
Unfortunately a lot of my answers boil down to "I can't talk about it!
" but that's how these things go. All I can say is that right now, the company is in a very good position thanks to all the funding they've raised lately, good enough that they're able to expand significantly for the first time since the start of development.

RE: Travelling is "complicated" to be mild
It's pretty hard to judge travel times right now since mounts haven't been implemented yet.

RE: When the Mod sides with trolls...
@Silynx said in When the Mod sides with trolls...:
I made the important part bold there. What I recall was more broad: he was tired of arguments in global chat period. Not specificly the argument you were involved in, but I'm sure @Specter can clarify this too.
This exactly. Over the past few days there has been quite a bit of drama in the ingame chat. As I don't have time to moderate the ingame chat 24/7, or constantly scour the chat logs for rule-breaking behaviour, I will have no choice but to ask Prometheus to shut down the ingame chat instead if people can't behave. This isn't specifically directed at @Mr14taz , but at all those who are causing drama in the global chat. We expect people to behave and be smart enough to moderate themselves. There's no ignore list right now, but that doesn't mean you're forced to take the bait. As the saying goes: don't feed the trolls.

Known issues: Fractured crashes on Windows 7.
Fractured currently has issues running on Windows 7. The devs are working on a fix.
with that said... Microsoft is ending support for Windows 7 on January 14th 2020, so we advice you to upgrade to Win 10 for the latest security updates and to avoid any compatibility issues.

RE: The Fractured Pre-Alpha Is Coming!
@frost No, we encourage everyone to not disclose they were invited.
We won't kick participants from the pre-alpha for mentioning they were invited, but it can make life more difficult for those who do when people start begging participants for juicy secrets.
@EvolGrinZ All invites for wave 1 have been sent.
@Logain Probably a mix of both. I think it will depend a lot on the test results. The servers will obviously be down when a new build gets pushed, and maybe when the devs are out of office. It's hard to say, Prometheus can give a better answer.

RE: Welcome the first Fractured forum moderator
@holya I am a volunteer, not an employee of Dynamight Studios. As for my background, I keep that a secret so it does not impede with my role as a moderator.
@Esher Something like that. As I am not an employee of Dynamight Studios, I am not on vacation like them.

RE: Jeux en français ?
@Lamarche Yes, French is one of the languages Fractured will be translated to.

Just a quick heads-up about unanswered questions
I have forwarded the following questions to Prometheus. I cannot guarantee you're going to get an answer, especially as Prometheus is on vacation right now. I just wanted to let you all know we haven't forgotten about these questions.
@Frost had two unanswered questions, one about the number of slots on the action bar and one about whether or not some abilities are tied to specific weapons.
https://forum.fracturedmmo.com/topic/246/spells-and-hotbar
https://forum.fracturedmmo.com/topic/245/weapon-and-spells-related@Knulp had two questions, one about the cash shop and one about VIP services.
https://forum.fracturedmmo.com/topic/298/buy-to-play-but@Vengu had a question about authenticators.
https://forum.fracturedmmo.com/topic/297/authenticator@Kris wanted to know whether or not attribute points can be reset after character creation. Also, he/she asked if it's possible to get a night mode or darker theme for the forum.

RE: Game Idea : Relic War (PVP) and other game mode
@zwiterion That's correct. In fact, @Nelchael's idea was spot on.
@nelchael said in Game Idea : Relic War (PVP) and other game mode:
It could be possible. These temples would probably be in cities, so they could be stolen after a successful siege. New relics could be found on asteroids - or maybe relic shards, which would then have to be reassembled by a master smith.
The buff would have to be small enough to keep things balanced, and I'm not sure if it should affect combat stats to be honest. Maybe just gathering and crafting buffs would be preferable. There could be buffs that only trigger during a siege, so that they wouldn't affect regular gameplay, such as a relic that gives defenders +5% attack when the relic is held in the defended city.

RE: Unease about SpatialOS
Short answer? Yes. Long answer? Prometheus talked about this on the MMORPG subreddit. I shall quote his post here.
As the CEO of Dynamight Studios - the company working on Fractured, also based on SpatialOS - I feel compelled to chime in this discussion.
For us, SpatialOS has been working out extremely well so far. We've picked it as our engine of choice in February 2017, and we started developing Alpha 1 for Fractured in August, so I can say we've have quite some experience with it. I can give you a quick overlook on the pros and cons of SpatialOS from our perspective.
Pros
- It integrates easily with existing game engines, particularly Unity - which was our choice.
- It allows you to do all the things they claim - in particular, creating a large, seamless world, with a gazillion of entities in it, pushing a lot of physics. It's scalable, and load-balancing works well.
- They provide hosting and distribution of the game too.
- They keep releasing updates - it's so much better now than it was, say, 8 months ago.
Cons
- It's relatively new and you can feel it: bugs and various issues still exist.
- It's relatively new and you can feel it 2: documentation is not where it should be yet.
- The fact you can use all that backend power doesn't mean you shouldn't optimize.
How it's been for us
A blessing! It's literally a blessing for an indie team with limited resources.
Sure, it can't do everything - like the post says, you have to make an authentication system yourself, plus ways to handle all the non-spatial systems and information. Authentication is trivial though, and Fractured doesn't have a lot of global information to handle. Moreover, we could fit our whole AI system (and likely others systems the CoE post doesn't mention) into SpatialOS workers.
In the end, there's one thing the Caspian himself said in his post that many seem to have ignored:
Their technology is still an extremely powerful solution for virtually all distributed simulations out there. But for our particular technology choices and game mechanics, it just wasn’t the ideal solution.
TL;DR
The fact SpatialOS wasn't a good fit for CoE doesn't mean it's "full of s...", "not delivering what it promises" and other claims I've read. It's a very powerful platform, with some issues related to its young age but constantly improving, and working out really well for other projects - including ours, Fractured.
-
RE: Unity has blocked SpatialOS - What's up and what it means for us
@logain From what I understand, Fractured's code would pretty much have to be rewritten completely if they were to switch engines.
I don't know what Prometheus is planning to do. He's still very busy trying to figure it all out.
