Would be awesome if we could charm/tame/dominate/trap monsters to use in town defense....

Morrowind! What an atmospheric, immersive RPG, except perhaps for sky racers (or were those cliff racers?).... -

Fishing on asteroids, eh? I like it! -

@prometheus
Hmm. We'll see how it plays out, but I didn't mind at all the idea of leveling up spells.After all, if the level 2/3 alternate isn't an overall improvement in -some- way, why take the time to explore and unlock it?

I kinda want to see how it actually works before crying doom.

RE: About governor pack
@target
Looks like you can get up to 4 additional character slots with the Proprietor basic pack. If those couldn't count toward a town, that'd be disappointing.If they didn't, however, and player pop was low, I could see creating new character(s) just to fill in a town. (It's kinda what's standard in Wurm Online already: mains + alts.)

@kellewic
True, but we get multiple toons from the Governor pack (six total?). Do you think those don't count? -
RE: A set of questions and suggestions/proposals.

Yeah, I was noticing the power shift there, too. Wonder how hard it will be to do all those quests:- Got to fight a bunch of Fire Spirits, apparently, until you learn all about them: probably found on either on Tartaros or Arboreos, and I wonder if there's any other way to learn about Fire Spirits -besides- fighting them
- Visit a static location on Tartaros: sounds dangerous, possibly easy place to ambush/guard; could become an interesting dynamic
- Walk over scorched terrain without damage: wonder how you do that: another spell/potion/blessing?
- Successfully imbue Primal Crystals with Sparks: I hope "successfully" doesn't mean it's a gambling/RNG mechanic; I also guess Primal Crystals are found on Arboreus; I wonder what skill you'll need to do this: enchanting?
- Hit 15 creatures at once with the same fire-based AoE ability: clearly not getting that one first unless there are other AoE spells
- Consume 50 doses of Axii's Primal Philter: Primal again makes me think of Arboreus, but it also sounds like a manufactured item; wonder if that requires Alchemy skills; might be able to trade for this item
At any rate, seems evident that's not happening quickly: you'll need to do some globetrotting and possibly unlock other skill trees, which I think is cool.
However the balance may appear now, fundamentally I much prefer the way this mechanic looks to repetitive grinding.

RE: About governor pack
I think the safest place for a "Governor-pack" governor would be to found a guild town on Arboreus. Then you'd only need to keep the town active, since you can't be voted out or conquered.
Wonder if one player can be active enough to keep a town above hamlet (I'm used to a low-pop world where you have to do everything yourself).

Good graphics alone doesn't make a good game by itself. If there is crap gameplay, and little content to do, then the game is not going to be a success.
I'd rather play a game that has great story, good gameplay and a lot to do while having less pretty graphics.That's how I see it.

Gear cost of PvP
I come from Wurm Online, where losing a full set of gear in PvP can be expensive (as in hundreds of euros expensive), and even decent inexpensive gear can be a time-consuming grind to replace, enough that for me whatever reward I might get out of a PvP encounter is very often not work the risk.
Since the developers have indicated they don't like grinding, and want people to be competitive out of the box, I'm wondering how full-loot drops in Fractured will be balanced. How hard will it be to replace gear?
If it's easy to replace competitive gear, what other incentives will there be for PvP? Glory/resources/knowledge/joy-of-ganking? If it's hard to replace gear, how does that fit in with the overall anti-grinding, quick-competitive philosophy of the developers?

What exactly do you mean by "skill"? The definition can range from twitchy mouse moves to chess-like deep thinking.In context of this thread, skill as spell / ability. Healing grace, arrow volley, throw shield, vanish,...
I'm lost. I thought you meant player skill! (Specifically, regarding your aversion to rock/paper/scissors.)

RE: A quick recap about the foundation and its future
@jetah
Sure, referrals make sense. Increasing points as your referrals increase points, however, is what reminds me of a pyramid scheme.Granted, you're right, you can get points other ways, but still, you're encouraged to get as many points as you can, so the pyramid element -is- in play (if not exclusive).

RE: A quick recap about the foundation and its future
I've never participated in something like the Foundation in the lead up to a new game. I like how it encourages reading news and generally familiarizing yourself with the game and participating on the forums.
The whole "invite-a-friend" mechanic is reminiscent of a pyramid scheme; not sure I would use that if implementing my own.
I definitely -don't- like the daily message posting mechanic. Maybe the spam it generates is worth the content encouragement, but I wonder if the engagement awards aren't enough for that.
-
RE: Reading the newsletters?
Hmm. Don't see the newsletters anywhere in my email (inbox/spam/trash/etc.).
How would I find the history of sent news?
-
Reading the newsletters?
I apparently joined Fractured after the two newsletters were emailed out, and that unfulfilled quest sitting in the Foundation is needling me. Plus, I'd like to read them.
Any way to get to them now?

Can guild towns exist on Arboreus?
If so, for no other reason, I'd be tempted to found my town there, since at that point, it would appear that the only way I could be evicted from being a governor would be hamlet-inducing inactivity.
