Steam support

will there be any steam support?
-
@Nightingal Fractured is not going to be on Steam anytime soon. The devs want to make sure the game is really polished before putting it there
-
@muker It would be nice if we end up with it on Steam, but either way I will be getting it ^^
-
Valve takes 30% as their cut. If it's less for small studios I can't remember.
Discord, even Epic will have a much lower cut which would be better for DS.
-
Yeah, at 30% nobody should be using Steam anymore.
If developers stopped going to Steam, then Steam will have no choice but to lower that cut to 20% or even 15%.
-
How does that work with F2P games though?
If nothing is purchased through Steam, wouldn't there be no cut?
If subs were handled solely through the game, and not Steam of course.

TSW Legends started as non steam with original client. Later on they gave people the Steam option.
However, people had to convert their account to steam account if they wished to use steam, so once your account was converted you were forced to use Steam.
People that didn't wish Steam could have kept using standard client.

there are people who look at f2p and still buy cosmetics with their steam wallet.

Anything bought via Steam gives a cut to Valve but devs are not required to sell anything through Steam. It's a great loophole.
-
It's not a flat out 30% goes to Steam, the share model is a bit more complicated than that.
Normally, Valve takes around 30% of all game sales on Steam, with some exceptions for games from smaller developers in its Steam Direct program. That will remain the case for the first $10 million in sales a game maker or publisher earns. For all sales between $10 million and $50 million, the split goes to 25%. And for every sale after the initial $50 million, Steam will take just a 20% cut.By putting a game on Steam you reach a lot more gamers which will result in more sales and even at a higher cut taken from your sale, it's still more profit than a sale not made.
Also don't forget Steam offers a lot more services that Epic store does not. Like forums, reviews, sales, chat with friends, Steam overlay etc.But of course, it's even better to sell your game on both Steam and Epic store.

@Jetah I rly like Steam, all in all works well, the market, achievements all the options it comes with are perfect for us gamers, but I rly don't like the cut they take from the studios.
On the other hand Epic takes much less I believe its something like 12% but doesn't have half the options, tools that steam has and provides.
-
@EvolGrinZ Agreed, would be nice to have the option.

the achievements are from the developers, not Valve. Epic is less than a year old, Steam is at least 15 years. Same goes for Discord.
-
Discord is growing. Lets see how things will look in a year.
Also Discords development is very active. It constantly improves and offers more and more tools and options.

That's correct.

Does anyone know what cut discord takes? I didn’t realize they had an actual client/store until yesterday haha
-
@Pluto
10% cut.
