Becomming an Angel or Abommination
-
@benseine definitely curious about that. Specifically if the sub-races of beastmen will have related sub-classes of abominations, and if the stats of the beastman sub-class will carry into the abomination. (The Erwydra is supposed to have higher intelligence, will that carry into the abomination version?)
-
Actually seeing that the demon may transform and there may be differences here, I think being a redeemed demon would be sick too.
-
can you change back from angel to demon?
-
@thaldrum we suspect you can but no official info about that for now.
-
I think it would be super cool if you changed into an angel/abomination, but if you eventually reversed your karma, you stayed an angel/abomination. Could still be treated the same as the regular race as far as npcs are concerned.
-
@oobenonioo Other unlockable combos down the road would be possible with this model. It makes a character more interesting and gives a more permanent feel to every action that you commit.
-
@oobenonioo lorewise would be a fail. Don't you think?
-
@mrchipps quite the opposite - it would make your decisions irrelevant in the long run.
-
@Finland No, I don't see how that could possibly be a fail lorewise. Do you have a reason for that or explanation?
@tulukaruk I'm confused by this thought process. Wouldn't changing back to the original form make the decision irrelevant in the long run?
-
@oobenonioo An evil Angel is just a demon ;). No way to see an angelic form with holy colors/aura to be mad. That would be totally a fail.
-
@finland Traditionally speaking, this is not true. Demons need bodies to live through, while angels (including fallen angels) do not. So theoretically, a demon who somehow turns angelic would ascend out of the body they were living through, into an angelic form, but if an angel goes rogue and becomes a fallen angel, they still don't have/need a body to survive.
-
Traditionally, there's too many traditions to count. In Judeo-Christian mythology, it's generally accepted that demons are fallen angels, in some versions however they are wicked human souls (usually with Lilith being the first demon), Nephilim (half-angels, half-humans) are supposedly evil spirits and therefore demonic, and in Islam they're something entirely different (demons are born of fire, whereas angels are born of light). Of course, the concept of good spirits and bad spirits predates all these religions, but that's not very relevant here.
My point is, there are many versions and interpretations of these mythologies, and Fractured doesn't have to bother with sticking to one of them. This game takes place in a completely new universe after all, and Fractured angels and demons aren't the same as angels and demons in our mythologies. Maybe in the Fractured world, angels can become evil again, maybe they can turn back into demons, or maybe they're just incapable of doing bad things and lowering their karma. Who knows? That's for the devs to decide.
Personally, I'd like it if angels could at least become neutral, since I'd like to try playing as an angel at least once, but being forced to have my alignment set to "good" would become annoying very quickly.
-
@tulukaruk I see where you are going with this. It makes an end where you can keep it open ended and allow the player to continue to modify their play-style. I guess if you go one way or the other you can always stay there to keep the form
-
@mrchipps what I mean is that becoming angel/abomination won't be easy and keeping it should require you to stick to your decision of being good/evil. If you change your mind you lose the rewards of your transformation. No idea how it will be handled in game but for sure abomination who turned back to good and become beastkin again shouldn't be able to live on Arboreus normally and the same goes for Angel-Demon and Tartaros.
-
@finland Thanks for your immaculate answers. Helps alot!
-
@evolgrinz I feel like it's supposed to be difficult/time consuming either way
-
@tulukaruk I was under the impression that this is probably how it will actually work. I see pros and cons to both sides of the coin. I don't really mind how they implement it and will find it fun.
-
@thaldrum I think you can since it's a karma positioning, but I think it will be a great lost to light side
-
I can see it already - create ERWYDRA mage, explore Arboreus, go to Syndesia, explore and turn neutral and then evil all the way
-
Along with the discussion about the changes in appearance, stats, etc related to Angels and Abominations, I wonder how quickly and by what means the transformation will take place.
Mainly, does becoming an Angel or Abomination occur gradually over time as your karma level changes, or will it take place more suddenly, for example, upon completion of a significant quest of some kind that's made possible only after achieving the necessary karma range for it?
