Perhaps at night there should be less guards in cities, allowing for more "questionable" activities to take place uninterrupted.

don't let the guards scare you!

Nice idea
-
@nelchael Thank you! Didn't realise this table existed

(...)I doubt its possible do that with every npc in an mmorpg(...)
Do you consider it to be overly resource intense upkeep wise (too taxing on the server), or implementation wise (too much manpower required to implement)?
-
I feel as though night/day cycle will have the least effect on demons, due to the whole "might as well just wait for an eclipse instead" if they were planning an ambush.
-
It'll have the biggest effect on Shadow Demons, since they get buffs during night time.
Shadow Demons are agile and evasive creatures, aces of disguise and illusion, naturally proficient in the use of traps and poisons. Attuned to obscurity, they enjoy a wide array of benefits during nighttime or when moving through dark environments.
-
I love games like that. Like Skyrim and kingdom come where the whole life cycle is is different between Day and. Night
-
@logain I think if every merchant and quest giver went to sleep during night cycle people who only get time to play in the night cycle would riot...
-
what if cycles were 30m or 1.5h long. or have some night merchants working the graveyard shift.
like "hey my shift ends in a few hours, but asdlfkjsadfkjlsdfajk will be taking over"
-
@jetah yeah having night merchants would work. Honestly I play games for hours so not having access to a merchant for 30 minute or even 1.5 night cycle would not be an issue for me. but for people who play for an hour a day and not having any merchants at all might be an inconvenience. so yeah having night merchants and night quest givers have be a thing.
-
Having night missions or events would be amazing. Or like random encounters

@kansei on Syndesia you may join this event as Demon:
quote from FEATURE SPOTLIGHT #2 β UNIVERSE, PLANETS AND TRAVELS
ECLIPSES
Since the Fracture, the fates of humans and demons have been inextricably tied to those of Syndesia and Tartaros. As punishment for having plunged Elysium into chaos, the two new planets have been designed to orbit each other around a common barycenter, giving birth to what in astronomy is known as a binary system. This peculiar structure leads the two planets to regularly obscure each other through long eclipses, which have a deep impact on the lives of demons and humans alike.
Not much is to be said regarding the eclipse of Tartaros β the time when the planet is shadowed by Syndesia. The latter possesses no aura, being neither good nor evil as the human race that inhabits it, and casts no influence on Tartaros during an eclipse.
Entirely different is the fate of Syndesia when the planet is obscured by Tartaros. The event, which lasts for several real-time hours, sees the human world plagued by the demonic aura of Tartaros and the desire of Babilis and its progeny to taste human blood. Thanks to the aura, demons donβt suffer the usual penalties when walking the grounds of Syndesia, retaining all the powers they have on Tartaros, and being able to haunt humans until the eclipse is over.
During the unnatural dark times, several Stargates are spawned on the two planets, allowing demons to effortlessly invade Syndesia. Such portals can be closed, but itβs an incredibly strenuous task for even the largest human armies, since the locations are infested not only by demon players, but also by AI-controlled demonic spawns.
More often than not, the only chance of humans during an eclipse is to lock themselves up in their towns and villages and try to hold off the invaders, praying for the Long Night to be over soon.

I really, really, really do not want to see asdlfkjsadfkjlsdfajk taking over...
Lets please call him Bill or Mike, or whatever else.
-
since i wasn't clear enough. if the day and night cycle are 30 minutes & there were vendors for day & night then it wouldn't matter. IF the day and night cycle were 1.5h long and vendors for day & night then it wouldn't matter.
nah, now it will be asdlfkjsadfkjlsdfajk jr. taking over at night. while asdlfkjsadfkjlsdfajk runs the day shift.
-
It sounds interesting but it depends on how it was implemented. If done well it could be fun but if done poorly it could be more annoying than anything else.

@althalus said in Night/Day events:

Do you think people need access to every NPC daily, or would it be fine if people only had access every other play-session (Chronicles of Elyria handles this problem through day/night cycles that don't fit into an earth day, hence everybody has access to night shifts and day shifts every so often during their common time-frames).
-
If few special people can only play during night cycle, it's their problem really.
Whole world can't bend just to fit a few special people.
-
How about day / night cycles lasting different amount of time depending where you are on the map?
Far north and far south cycles being longer, while closer to equator (center) they would be shorter.
Yeah, yeah, I know it would be a bitch to implement the transitions between time zones.

EDIT: perhaps cycles could last differently on different planet.
