Coinage and Monster Gold Loot
-
From QA 4/2020
A City can make gold coins (with a gold mine).
And resource hotspots will not deplenish.
All gold coins have the same value and monsters will drop coins too.
How the game will balance? First days gold coinage will be very powerfull cause players will not have gear/power to just farm but, weeks after, people will just ''monster farm'' gold.
A city with a gold mine spot will just fall over?
-
I don't think their economy is finished yet.
-
@TrueCrimsonFTW nops but its why we should talk about, lol
-
Supposedly there will be some heavy gold sinks in the game. The cities are suppose to cost exponential more (the bigger they get) to maintain and portals are suppose to just be ludicrous in how much they will cost to make. So, we will just have to see how they balance it all out in Beta.
-
Yes, i hope so.
But my questions is more like: how a city with coin production will progress when people will have enough gear to just farm monsters.
-
I wonder how they are going to limit the economy so money doesn't run rampant.

As far as we know by now, a city will not be depending on just 1 resource. So think of combinations of a mine giving other resources too or a min and food production etc. etc.
On the other hand will a city not have access to ALL resources, which will make trading between cities / guilds a necessity.

(...)gear/power to just farm(...)The question should rather be, is Fractured going to be a grinding game or not? If it's not (as advertised), what is the incentive to explore, socialize, build and whatever else there's going to be?
Because, if there's not enough incentive to grind, is it a real threat to economy?
-
Economy will be player made. So in start there will be little gold but there will also be little of everything (of all goods).
Later on there will be more gold but there will be more of all goods as well, and better goods that will cost more gold.
Also hopefully if goods will be breakable back to percentage of base resources, so will gold coins be breakable back to raw gold resource, that could also be used for something else.
-
@Gothix So will things change as supply and demand changes?
-
Hoping that the economy itself will not just be gold based, but that there will be a barter economy. That would also reduce the importance of gold.
-
With the turnover of gear upon deaths and crafters/gatherers in game, I'm very optimistic in the "barter economy" for this game. I like the idea of no gear being permanent, high hopes of it keeping a market thriving and providing a fairly stable demand for goods.
-
@Umbaalo hope too, as a crafter builiding a crafting city.
-
Definitely be interested to see how this plays out as well. PvP and full loot drop might prevent some of the unbalances for the favorable nodes.
-
Yes for barter economy.
In start before gold is available it will be only barter. Later on gold will replace a part of bartering, but shouldnt eliminate it completely.
Hopefully with resource breaking, and possibly gold coin melting, and raw gold reuse, things should work ok.

^ The devs said towns are a big coin sink and the auction houses / markets will only work with coins, so they will be a big part of the game. As in any other game, everything will be very cheap at launch and will become progressively more expensive until the market stabilizes. Using the auction house is SO MUCH easier and sometimes safer than meeting with people and trading.
-
Then will there be different shops based on region? Like will food for example be higher value in a desert than it would be in a town surrounded by trees?
-
@TrueCrimsonFTW
The markets will be local. If you sell something in Zenith, only the people who travel physically to the marketplace of that town can buy it. Demand and supply will be different in different towns (or maybe even biomes), so most likely items will have different values in different towns.
-
Mhmmm, interesting. I am now more curious as to how they are going to make sure people don't saturate the market and just farm gold without any work. I also hope exploring and moving goods around sells for more.
-
@TrueCrimsonFTW hope so!
