RE: So there will be a skin cash shop (part 2)
I've bought skins in Guild Wars 2. I played that game for several years and it was a buy to play game. So I felt that the devs should be rewarded a little more. I don't buy cash shop items because I want my toon to look different, but because I want to pay for the entertainment I get out of the game, so the devs can continue adding content.
The last game I played with a cash shop, was Assassins Creed Origins. I didn't buy anything from the cash shop, because I felt I had spend enough on the game + DLC. Spending extra money on it wouldn't result in any extra content, but in shareholders earning more money. I didn't even buy the loot boxes with ingame currency.
If I'm already paying a $10 subscription here (which will be more expensive in euro), then I don't think I'll spend extra money on cash shop items. The $10 should be enough to support the game.
I don't think I would ever buy temporary skins though. Does that exists in some games?

RE: What kind of a playstyle will your first character have?
I want to help build a big town. Protect it against demons. I want to craft, trade and explore.

RE: Question about Syndesia guards
The way I understand it: Being a 'good' player gives you more protection on Syndesia. Being a 'criminal' player, gives more reward but also more risk. 'Good' players will be able to enter any city without a problem. 'Good' players can be attacked outside of cities, by 'criminal' players.

RE: daily maintenance

Or they can do like GW2 and have several servers create a mega server. And do maintenance on 1 of the sub servers at a time. With the result that the game will never go offline for server maintenance and the ability to support multiple versions of the game. Meaning that when the game is updated, players don't get kicked out of the game but have several hours to finish what they were doing before forced out of the game.
What you do in GW2 does not really impact the world. When you leave the server that is going down, you leave dynamic events in a certain state and you are on a certain location. You enter the new server at the same location but with dynamic events in other states. This does not matter in GW2. At worst you get killed quickly, but don't loose anything.
In Fractured you don't want to build a house, switch servers and find that the house hasn't been build.
The problem with backups is that you need to back up everything at the same time: user location, user inventory, constructions that have been build, ... The easiest way of doing that is to shut down everything and then take a backup. But that means that when you need to restore, you lose everything since the last backup. You can also archive all changes since the last backup. But restoring those is a lot slower than restoring a simple backup.
If you never shut down, everything that requires consistency, at the same time you'll end up with things like: a house hasn't been build but the resources are gone; an item is removed from player A's inventory but isn't in player B's inventor. I don't know how GW2 can pull that last one of without getting inconsistencies.

RE: Limited/rare items?
It's fun to collect all kinds of skins. It makes you wan't to keep playing.

@jozef I feel like having merchants in a game without the auction house is a good thing because it actually gives a reason for being a good player that follows laws then again I might be bias because Iโm planning on being a merchant myself and Iโm in a merchant guild
An auction house is nice for players who want to buy cheap items and don't care about crafting and trading. But, by adding AHs to MMORPGs a piece of gameplay and immersion has been removed. The same thing goes for banks, huge inventory, fast travel, automated lfg, ....

RE: Graphics or Gameplay?
Gameplay is most important. Don't ask me to play 8-bit games though. If the graphics of game look to dated then it's no fun for me.

RE: daily maintenance
Game devs choose time slots where the least players are online. So most players rarely notice this.
