Caffeine doesn't have much of an effect on me. I like a coffee aroma though, so I do moderately drink it, to enjoy the taste.

RE: VIP system : What do you think ?
It doesn't matter what exactly IS or ISN'T P2W.
What matters is what most people PERCEIVE as P2W.
Game needs a player population. The larger the population the better for game, because if the game is "alive" and has a healthy player pool, it will attract even more players like that. Players that will not spend cash in cash shop, but also those that will.
The best way for a game to attract a healthy player pool is to not implement something that would be "perceived" as P2W (regardless if it really IS or ISN'T P2W). It's better to go moderately, and focus on cosmetics. Make those cosmetics UNIQUE so no one else but VIP players can get them (not even for cash as single transfers) and you give the VIP a reason to have.
Also add some veteran status to people that have VIP for longer periods of time, and reward people that have VIP for long time by some unique housing options and stuff like that.
I would avoid "time savers" as much as possible personally, because this is usually double edged sword, and many will perceive it as P2W (again perception is crucial here).

RE: Suggestion: Offline character activities
I'm kinda against any AFK or offline activities though.
Against AFK activities cause it forces me to leave PC on while away from the game (and my home).
Against offline activities, cause it forces me to go offline, so my character can do things, instead of me just being able to slack around in city chatting (I love slacking around in city chatting).
The ONLY activities available should really be the ones player is doing actively while playing. Nothing else.

RE: Night/Day events
Perhaps at night there should be less guards in cities, allowing for more "questionable" activities to take place uninterrupted.

Well Allods online has been around for almost 10 years now? so clearly they know what they are doing!!! and what they are doing seems to be working!!!
In aspect of payment model, not really, game is hard P2W, and their population is brutally low, but few whales that are continually sinking in tens of thousands of euros are single handed keeping servers alive, even with game having otherwise pretty low pop.
But in aspect of promotion, yes they do. Sexy characters always attract lots of crowd.
There is no denying that.

@benseine Allods Online knew how to attract the crowd.

At night I would like to see NPC's have drunken brawls and prostitutes whisper you if you pass by them.
While also showing you boobs.

RE: Kickstarter Update - Pledge Packs
@Jetah yeah I agree, in full loot PvP game there should be no combat advantage gained by spending cash, or game will very quickly loose most of it's player base and die.
VIP can exist, but only in form of unique cosmetic rewards, perhaps a minimum convenience, but nothing that affects combat should be there.

RE: Secret ways in dungeons
Combine dungeon with puzzles, and if you fail, or do only elementary puzzle, only regular door opens for standard bosses.
If you discover something, and solve puzzle in advanced way, a passage opens for extra boss.
But puzzle would have to be somehow dynamic, or else once someone learns how to do it, it would end up on web and everyone would know, and then that puzzle looses it's point.

RE: VIP system : What do you think ?
I think that this being OP (or not) mostly depends on how devs plan to implement standard knowledge gain rate in game, and how powerful VIP boost will be.
Basically, without any details on this we can't really say anything now.
__
If average time that player will need to learn all 400 abilities (without VIP) will be 2 years, and VIP boost makes player able to do it in 6 months, then yes it would be OP.
If boost is only a mild one and VIP player (given the same play time) will averagely learn all abilities only like 10-20% faster then non VIP player, then it's not OP.
__
We don't know what will average time to learn all abilities be, and we don't know how big the boost will be, so we can't really discuss this at all now besides maybe agreeing that VIP might be ok, if knowledge point gain boost is only a mild one.

@benseine said in VIP system : What do you think ?:
Many players will drop VIP as soon as they have unlocked close to all +400 skills.
Not necessarily. As long as VIP mechanics exists, devs can (and surely will) modify what VIP bonuses are once they see people dropping out of VIP because they maxed their FPs.
I have no doubt about that.

RE: Personal asteroids as a form of housing
This can also be an extra source of income for them.
If housing on asteroids would be possible, that means that everyone can have own home (regardless of limited open world space), and this subsequently means that every player can be a customer for extra cosmetic housing items.
Housing items could be gained just by playing as reward for activity, but cash shop could have extra housing cosmetics on sale, that I'm sure many people that love housing would buy.
-
RE: VIP system : What do you think ?
I'm not sure exactly what additional "learning slots" are, but it has a bad sound to it.
Without further info about it, It sounds like P2W feature.

RE: Kickstarter Update - Pledge Packs
I would just like to say that foundation points SHOULD NOT be included as KS reward.
Foundation points serve as entrance to Alpha 0, and it was stated that Alpha 0 would be a reward for early community activity: being helpful on forums, sharing news about fractured etc. (So an active community member could get a chance to enter Alpha 0 even if he didn't spend any money yet.)
If foundation points are added as KS reward, then Alpha 0 access becomes directly a payed access: $$ -> Foundation Points -> Alpha 0 access.
This means that people that were active and very helpful community members so far could be left without alpha access if they don't spend cash on KS (people that do spend cash can surpass them in FP amount). So that's a big NO from me for adding FP to KS.

RE: The psychology of gaming
@benseine said in The psychology of gaming:
It is correct that I could pick from 8 different schools 1 ability each, right? So balacing Warfare vs Marksmanship isn't gonna solve anything, unless running a full Marksmanship build is the FOTM
Yeah but chosing 1 ability from each school will not make you OP due to you not having attributes to make all these abilities perform at their maximum.
If you make your attributes set for archery for example, and then you take fireballs from magic, some buff song from "Bardism" ( not sure anymore what all schools are called
) then your fireball and the song you took will perform quite poor due to your lack of attributes they need to function better (even if they would be OP for someone who took affiliated attributes for one of those, for you it will not be).
If you spread your attributes in a equal way across all stats, then all those skills will function in mediocre level so again not OP.
Only the one school you buffed with your attributes will function fully effectively.
And in this case it is enough to balance only particular school that is OP compared to other schools.

RE: Personal asteroids as a form of housing
@vengu said in Personal asteroids as a form of housing:
You'll be able to build your own secluded house in the open world if you so desire, I don't see why asteroid housing would be any different. You're not forced to live in guild cities yaknow.
Are you sure that personal housing will be possible outside of (guild) settlements?
If yes, even better.
I was only suggesting asteroids due to fear of limited space for housing in open world (and I love housing).

now your frost school sucks and fire is beating it.
Not if you balanced it right. If you see you nerfed too much you reduce the nerf done. Until it's just right.

Personal asteroids as a form of housing
There would be a main access portal somewhere (for example in capital cities on each planet), and when you interact with it you could travel to your own asteroid (or friends asteroid, given that he gave you permission to visit). Your asteroid could be your housing zone, where you could build own castle, farm, lake, whatever.
Could work like flying housing zones in WildStar MMO.
Would you enjoy something like that? (In addition to having guild housing, that Fractured already has)

RE: The psychology of gaming
Many ways to nerf abilities from just one school. Just take those abilities, reduce their damage and/or increase their cool down and/or decrease their up time period and/or ...
As for your example "nerf the frost": reduce the time targets remain frozen, increase CD on casting freeze, add bigger chance for freeze effect to break on receiving damage,...
