RE: Rhykker Mention of "Pay for Convenience"
UO cosmetics were very important to players and those graphics were awful. In fact, to see most of the cosmetics you actually had to pull up a persons paperdoll because the rendering in the game was so poor.
SWTOR cosmetics were very hot when I was playing there. There is a sub also but you can play without one. Without one the game was so chopped down you really couldn't have any fun. I've not seen any financial reports on the game but I bet they make alot of money from buying cosmetics. Their housing was awesome. You had alot of room to display your trophies. I had an entire hanger of my starships on display lol. Only problem was the housing was instanced and you had to give authorization for people to enter.

RE: Rhykker Mention of "Pay for Convenience"
My favored alternative is the one planned here. I prefer no sub with micro transactions for cosmetics. Cosmetics are such a huge thing for most players. I would expect this generates decent income for the devs. They are easy to introduce because they cause no balance issues with the game itself.

RE: Lootable Corpse?
@Jetah said in Lootable Corpse?:
i'm trying to spin the ideals to favor my point of view! theft without a witness means it wasn't theft. a knockout could mean i found a fly on the head of someone and tried to kill the fly. i couldn't help it if the person had less constitution than the fly..
That brings up the whole argument of the tree falling in the woods making sound. However, I think any lawyer will tell you even if you weren't caught stealing it is still stealing, real life or not. The victim is going to consider it stealing for sure.
How are you supposed to "find" thieves also? That's very vague. How would you institute that mechanic? Characters are not logged in 24/7. Also what will happen when you do find them on the mere chance that they are logged in at the same time as you? What's the point? What will happen to them?
To me it just sounds like someone trying to find a loophole to thwart the flagging system and get away with griefing.

RE: Rhykker Mention of "Pay for Convenience"
I agree a sub based game is the best way to even the playing field. Subs just don't work for me any more because I don't have the time to play like I did in my 20s. For that reason I feel I'm cheating myself on the sub lol. The sub is one of the reasons I dropped SWTOR. My playing time dropped so much I felt I wasn't getting my money's worth.

RE: Rhykker Mention of "Pay for Convenience"
And if those things lend to you having a greater advantage over myself I will be one of the first to quit the game. Your lifetime will have a very short life expectancy if others feel the same and don't have fun because of it. The difference is I will be out less money if the game fails.

RE: Rhykker Mention of "Pay for Convenience"
@Yitra Oh wow have you not played many mmo's where people spend tons of money just to look better than the next person at the community gathering spot such as the bank in UO? lol

RE: Just starting an uproar
I think the problem lies in the tabs that were added did not include foundation. For some not seeing it I think is subconsciously making them think they are "cheated" in some way not seeing it added into their totals. Would it be hard to add that tab in and calculate it into the totals? I think if something like that was included all these posts would go away.

RE: How many have we gathered?
How many actively log in everyday? Every week?

RE: Lootable Corpse?
Also there is no permanent death so in fact the person killed can just report it as well. There you have your witness theory

RE: Lootable Corpse?
Sounds alot like UO only better. Why should the flags happen without witnesses? Simple, this is a game and not real life. There need to be controls put into place to control griefing.
-
RE: Lootable Corpse?
You aren't flagged when attacking? I would think the flag comes before killing/defeating. The simple act of acting an innocent would be the crime. I've not done any research since it really doesn't pertain to me, but can someone get permanently flagged in any way?

RE: Future armor ideas
So is the heavy bulky armor going to affect stats like dexterity? In D&D the trade off for more armor is less speed. You can't stack your high dex bonus for armor completely. There is a sweet spot at which armor starts to lose you your dex.

RE: profile level
They really need to add that tab and then total it in. This isn't the first time people have posted all worried lol.

RE: Resources
I've seen some contradictory information while researching this when I saw the reply. After researching "land mass" I have seen these posts
*We know only that Arboreus will be bigger than Syndesia. Syndesia will be bigger than tartaros.
*the initial planets will be generated but will remain static after that.
*planets will be procedurally generated then will remain static. We'll have Asteroids as procedurally generated content. DS hasn't explained it well so that's about all we know.
It was mentioned that the planets will be just regular square/rectangle maps and not real spheres.*Based on answers given in the past, once the lands are all claimed, the game will generate more land or plots that can be claimed.
So....do we know what the real answer is?

RE: Pet system can be based on UO or Daoc?
I guess it will be balanced if everyone has one then lol.
-
RE: Pet system can be based on UO or Daoc?
@Corben That system seemed to work pretty good. I just hope they control the scaling of stats. You could train their stats so high they were better than the person handling them. Stats need to be regulated on tamed creatures so when you look at the controller and the tamed they have a cap together. They are functioning as one unit when in combat.
To me a mount should only get you where you need to go faster. I don't think the stats should total into the character as bonuses. Then you have balancing issues again. Remember a game isn't real life. A game needs balance because its intent is for all players to have fun all the time. I think most of us will agree real life has many moments when it is not fun and you can't just quit unless you permanently log out. In SWTOR your mount was just a skin. I like that aspect personally.

RE: Reserve a name separately?
I'm from the Farland clan so saving character names isn't a problem since we are usually the only ones with Farland as a last name lol.
-
RE: Reserve a name separately?
I could care less what my name is in the game. I can usually find something that works for me. In SWTOR they kept shutting down servers and merging. If you got merged and your name was taken on the new server you had to change it on your next login. Nothing like being put on the spot having to think of a name before you could do something with your existing character. So I kept a list of names next to the computer I liked lol. I think I had to do that 3 or 4 times before I quit. I told my buddy my characters were starting to develop some personal identity crisis because they had new names so often.

RE: Fractured - a living world?
In the early days of UO there were npc beggars. When you go too close they basically latched onto you and followed you around asking for money. They wouldn't leave until you dropped at least 1 gp on them lol. You had to watch out for npc thieves because they hung out around the bank. If they came next to you they would steal a random item from your main bag. I remember a few times my house rune was stolen until I realized I needed to embed important stuff in more bags and keep junk in the main bag lol. You could go around yelling destination and npcs wanting a lift to another town would come up to you. Gaters would be walking around town with tons of them just gating from one city to the next making gold. You could hire guards to accompany with you to dungeons. Npcs were so vibrant that you almost didn't need other players lol. This system worked until other players were taking the npcs out of town to murder them for their loot.
