We actually do get quite a few updates from the devs via posting as well. Just watch the forums and you will see updates for the alpha testing

RE: Bartle's Taxonomy and this game.
I admit I have not read every post in the thread but commenting on the first one I think there are at least two types left out:
The griefer. This is the person who loves nothing other than causing other players problems, cheating the game and just otherwise causing mischief.
The capitalist. Someone only playing the game to turn it into real profit. They run bots and could care less about anything the game has to offer.

RE: Next Play test ??
@Xzait Kind of hard to do a stress test with the very few that paid the $300. I've never seen a stress test not opened up to as many players as they can get. As far as alpha goes I paid for beta and would not expect to test until it is my turn. Then again I hate playing alpha on games lol.

RE: Camping?
I don't think his post was about players camping. I've seen people post that critters could jump into your house while the door was closed. Wasn't that a bug? If not, nothing should be able to get into your house while you are in it and the door is closed. So respawning into your house should always be safe. Hopefully there is a way to kick stuff out like in UO. Some ban function.

RE: Relese date
At least alpha will end. I can't tell you how many games I have bought on steam that are still considered in alpha lol.

RE: How do you think the Economy will actually function?
No item repair with decay/item damage means that items will need to be changed out. That will definitely make crafting viable. But if the crafting is so easy then I'm suspecting the trade business will be in materials and not finished items except for those who just don't like to spend time crafting at all. There is still a grind involved in gathering materials so that is where the hardcore players will make money over social players.
On enchanting, I expect the market to work like it did in UO when they introduced items with the plethora of resistance stats. You basically held onto the items that had very high stats on one or two specifics. There was always players looking to make suits with extremely high stats in specific areas. I once found a dagger I was told would be awesome in pvp for some stat is was high in. I made 3.7 mil in the auctions. It just made me farm dragons more lol. Without farming critters I probably would have quit UO alot earlier. One reason I'm worried about no treasure loot drops in this game.

RE: What to do during this meantime?
I play solo games. I'm on Pillars of Eternity 2 right now. Love the series. Pathfinder Kingmaker is good also.

RE: Various damage types vs immunities
I personally don't like 100% reduction for a type. I'd prefer the cap at 99% myself.

RE: Crafting from a wishful thinker
I hated the rare resources in SWG usually because I didn't get them lol. The thing about rare though is that it is not plentiful. If something in the crafting genre doesn't impose some kind of hurdle that must be overcome then it doesn't become something you can make your niche in. Everyone will be able to do it and thus crafters will only be necessary for the lazy or those who just don't have the time nor want to make the time. Since knowledge will only open up crafting options that give different, not better, stats to your items, then there will not be any higher tier stuff. No items will be able to handle all situations.
There are also no secrets in mmos. At least not until they are revealed for the first time. Once someone breaks a code on a recipe they will become widely known. So only the players paving the way will have the excitement of the secret formula experimenting.

RE: How will you be making your $$$?
I'm sure everyone will be earning gold like every other mmo. Killing mobs that drop coins, doing npc quests that reward with coins and crafting/sales of things people want (this one might not work if everyone can do everything easily). I'm sure those who pk will be doing their best in the lands that allow pvp

RE: Crafting from a wishful thinker
Sounds like the crafting in Star Wars Galaxies is what you guys like.
*The recipes were long and the resources were rare. In fact, if you were the lucky guy to find a particular resource one week when it spawned you may be the only one to have it forever.
*The resources were randomized on several traits. I think each resource had like 6-7 traits.
*The locations for these resources changed locations. It could be on Naboo one week and then on Bespin another.
*You could make a schematic or a one off when you crafted. A schematic was fed into a factory which would run as long as it had space to hold the output and resources to feed the schematic.
As with any game that doesn't supply the actual results; it is only secret until someone researches it and publishes it online. That bit is hard to put into any mmo.

RE: Why we need attribute respec options.
@Prometheus Whoa that was the first I've seen that lol. I didn't realize it was mentioned several times. Well that's welcome news.

RE: Abilities
@Vidrik That has definitely been the topic of discussion a few times. The lack of loot drops means no need for grinding mobs except it does sound like gold has been added to humanoids. When exploration/knowledge tree is the main key to stuff to do that will run dry fast on hardcore players. They are going to need to introduce server events to keep people busy and having fun. They can't leave it to players to run these either because players do not have the tools to pull them off right. Devs are going to need to do stuff weekly/monthly or people will get bored.

RE: Talent tree info
Hopefully at some point after the game launches a nice 3rd party tool will come out where you can fill in the tree and see all the results. I used to use one like that for SWG that someone made before I even created the character.

RE: Building a home
4 days isn't that bad earning your way to your first house. My first house in UO took me about 6 months. Then again back then you had to wait for someone else's to fall lol.
-
RE: Needed party markers
Minimap to me is very important in all games I play. Maybe even a way to turn on a waypoint marker that leads you right to a selected party member.
-
RE: what the actual pvphuck
Beastman is sounding more appealing as a starting character lol.

RE: [FRAC-1972] Helpless starving
I hope eating isn't so constantly needed that I feel all I do is click on food piles in my bag. You should also be able to harvest food.

RE: Why we need attribute respec options.
@Nekrage If you look above in the first post I did say with a cool down.
@ Jetah I also can't see how respecing would be pay-to-win with a huge delay between respecing. If there was a month between respec purchases how are you taking advantage of the option to counter a specific situation such as a pvp event? BTW are we even forgetting all the arguments that a player straight out of creation is not much different than a well developed character? That argument has been beaten to death. You are speaking in what if situations. Can you describe in detail a situation that makes you worried about others being able to repec with say a month between respecs?
