Not all pvp is the same. There is a huge difference between wars/tournaments/duels and ganking/ambushing.

RE: PvE Planet with PvP
@Specter I hope they do the same for the pvp planet because even though it is not hardlocked from players it is in effect locked out from players who just do not have the physically capability to play in the fast paced pvp gamestyle. This is something you 20 year olds will not understand until you get older lol.

RE: PvE Planet with PvP
I think some of the problem here is players want access to everything but want their own type of gameplay everywhere as well. As a player I've never wanted to miss out on content within a game. I'm one of those players that wants to do it all. I was maintaining 16 characters in SWTOR which was way more than I should have but I didn't want to miss out on any of the story arcs.
I think if the planets would have been mirrored like it was in UO with just having different pvp rulesets there might have been less arguing. However. that would completely change the idea the devs had for their game. As players we need to accept their vision.
Personally I'm glad they added the different planets. I probably won't visit the demon planet and will live mostly in the beast one but that is my choice and I'm glad I have that choice

RE: PvE Planet with PvP
Is 30 minutes going to be long enough for a player to hit the knowledge nodes from another planet? Does this mean you can traverse the entire planet in 30 minutes? Or does this mean you can do this from all the gates to every part of a planet?

RE: Looting? Pickpocketing? Or Lock picking & Burglary
@humerus I think this is going to be a different kind of mmo where there is no finish line in the creation progress of your characters. If that is so the game will need to center on regular events to hold players' attention. I believe this because every game I have played my interest was held only until I got to the end content. However, if the game held regular events such as UO and SWTOR did, then I stuck around for the social aspect and just had fun with my team mates.

RE: Looting? Pickpocketing? Or Lock picking & Burglary
Ok I didn't read the entire thread but caught a few topics that made me take notice.
What dictates epic gear? Since everything is horizontal meaning there is no tip in the stats in total power what will mean something is epic? From what I'm understanding the total stats for everything from characters to gear is not supposed to vary enough that anything will be epic. Everything is supposed to be fairly equal...right? Are we saying stats in fire will be better than stats in cold? Will there be a stat type that rises to the top tier? I'm not seeing a tier system unless gear operates differently from characters. If it does then the whole argument that a player right out of creation is as good as a character that has been running around for years. I know that argument has been beat to death and I don't want to begin it again lol.
The question on breaking into player housing is something I'm strongly against. We do not live in the game world and can not protect our belongings 24/7. Players need some safe place to store stuff from others. If my house isn't safe then I see no reason to ever have a house. A house in mmos has always been a storage shed for me.

RE: Death and what it entails
I thought it was said there would be durability since we have been told upon death gear is damaged. That would indicate gear is going to degrade. No repairing and damage upon death means gear will rotate alot. If gear is horizontal as characters are then there would be no such thing as epic gear nor would that mean that gear degrades in stats. So I'm not seeing how improving your crafting ability really really "improves" your character as a crafter. From all I can rationalize "improving" in knowledge just opens up new options. Not necessarily better or more powerful just different.
So what am I getting at? If everyone is able to craft the same quality of gear right out of the box then I don't see much of a player run market. Everyone will basically be able to supply themselves since basic mats are probably going to be readily available. That said the only good vendors are just going to be the ones that actually supply goods. There's no competition in quality of goods.

RE: Death and what it entails
One thing I saw in other games I played was in organized pvp events death/looting was turned off. The event was instanced and once you were "dead" you were removed from the instanced event. I liked this sort of control over the fighting because players could not reenter the fight, you could bring your best gear without fear of losing it, and there were no jerks on the outside screwing with the players in the fighting.

RE: Death and what it entails
@Whisper Oh that's good to hear. BTW that's how I got home sometimes in SWG when short for time to log off but then noticed the hit to gear was so high I never did it on purpose again lol.

RE: Death and what it entails
So we don't have any dev info yet on this subject? We can all speculate and discuss the subject but I'd rather know where the jump off point is. I think up to this point I have only heard there will be damage upon death. I haven't seen anything about being knocked out causing damage. If it only happens at death and death is not often in PvE then this isn't a big deal. However, if we die often each session this could be a big deal if damage is high and you have to constantly repair/replace your gear.

RE: Death and what it entails
Have they said how much your gear is damaged upon death? Anything on repair yet?

RE: Attacks on settlements by NPCs
NPC centered large scale events in UO were high server activity events. I remember the Battle of Trinsic being so heavily attended on Great Lakes that the queue was awful trying to log in. We had a dozen guys where I work call in sick and they had to shut down our shift lol. Bosses weren't too happy. My dialup was so lagged that I could barely move. I did get tons of pics that day though.

RE: Sieges: And how to make those a whole guild activity
My question is the game going to be able to handle 50v50 fighting on the same screen?
-
RE: Will food rot?
I sure hope not. Nothing worse than spending a few hours gathering food only to log back in and it's all gone. That used to happen in another game I played. Very frustrating to say the least. There is a level of realism that just doesn't translate over to a game world where you are not "living" 24/7.

RE: The deer
I'm just glad that we can't run faster than the animals (as humans anyway). Is there any difference in move speeds in the races?
-
RE: Should the animals kill each other
I loved walking into an area where the npcs/animals were fighting in UO!

RE: May 3 City Progression & PvP Q&A Livestream - List Your Questions!
What happens when a player quits the game that is running a city?
How do you change who runs the city?
Where do city finances from taxes go and who has access to them? What can those taxes be used for?

RE: reading other player's background story
Do you mean player or characters entered into their foundation background? If you want to read up on player info just click on the name in the forum. It will bring up a profile.

RE: Concerns related to the attributes
@Mindark I do believe I got the names mixed up while reading through all the posts I missed. My apologies I actually posted some of my replies in the mixup on the different names. I wasn't wanting to get into any arguments about the subject. I feel arguing is fruitless as the devs have the final decision. I've left my thoughts on the subject matter and my reasoning. I don't think I accused you of insulting anyone other than me with the altoholic reference but as you pointed out that wasn't a misspelling as I took it lol. I will leave the arguing to others lol.

RE: Concerns related to the attributes
@Mindark Before I reply I would like to say no I'm not an alcoholic and in fact I have never drank. My original post was meant for the first post that was to explain my viewpoint on respecing your toon. Also talk about missing points I said in mine they should make it a money grab and charge for respecing not do it on the fly. I also do feel they should offer them free as so many other games I have played because changes to core mechanics can sometimes make your build not worth playing. Have you played D&D which is closest to the stats here? Your stats ARE your characters' abilities. If a skill you used was based off dex but then got changed to str how do you think that would affect your build?
I also addressed your point on how other people can pressure you into changing your character in my post above. How you want to play your game is up to you. If you want a ton of alts then by all means spend the money and add all the character slots you want. Myself I'd rather they allow us to do as much as we can on one alt because that's the experience I want. For you to come here and post insults on replies from players because they don't line up with your desires is not really fair. I try to be civil in my replies and I understand people can be passionate and vocal in their responses so I'll just chalk up your insult to that
