    • RE: Character Creation

My first character is going to be a Wolfman geared towards support and tanking.

The latter might be a mistake, since I tend to be a lone wolf (heh) in MMOs, so gearing towards tanking is probably going to hurt my ability to do stuff solo, but oh well. There will be other characters with which I can make horrible once-per-char-no-reset build choices. 😜

There's a typo in the article: one of the monsters you mention is a "warewolf".

Unless that monster is a canine peddler of illicit software, or a particularly excited sales-doggo, I think it should be spelled "werewolf".

If not, I would probably go necromancer/summoner.

Are you the kind necromancer/summoner that floods the screen with a ludicrous number of minions, or are you the kind that summons a different heavy-weight Murder Machine for different circumstances?

(Now I'm wondering what limit is there going to be on the number of summons...)

    • RE: Dungeon Content

      @Dybuk This:

I hope that dungeons won't be just "move forward -> kill everything -> repeat".

      and this:

That it will require a bit of planning, preparation and dedication. Not just mindless button spamming.

doesn't have to be mutually exclusive, does it? One can do a lot with tricky enemy teamups, tricky terrain setup, or both.

But I agree with you - puzzles would be nice. I never got to raiding in any multiplayer game, but I have many a few a tiny handful of fond memories of doing Spy missions in Warframe(1).

I heard that roguelike-ish roguelite Unexplored has procedurally generated, multi-floor puzzles that are not just "paste puzzle vault here", so there's already prior art for Dynamight to take notes from.

Speaking of which: I really hope Dynamight has some traditional roguelike nerds on the team, if they're tackling procedurally generated dungeons. There are two reasons:

      1. roguelike renaissence has produced a lot of useful know-how in that area, and a lot of creators share their findings freely,
      2. "proc-gen" is a bit of a dirty word for MMO veterans, because it has been implemented poorly in past titles(2).

      (1) And a lot of awful memories of uncooperative randos ruining them by acting like blind idiots. -_-

      (2) If r/MMORPG is to be believed, at any rate.

    • RE: What's your motivation for your pledge pack?

I don't have a pledge pack yet, because budget issues.

My main motivation is going to putting my money where my mouth is by supporting an MMO that promises to do what I want an MMO to do.

However, I'll probably buy one of the cheapest packs, because of A) budget issues, B) I was burned by Firefall's, launch, and C) I was burned by Starbound being designed as if to precisely annoy me while pretending to tick every single box on my "ideal 2D open sandbox" list, and that got worse as the game developed.

I suppose I would care for the rewards/bonuses, but I hate time-limited items, so few months of VIP and few months of carpenter NPC are definitely not something that would motivate me to upgrade my pack.

      Witamy, witamy.

    • RE: Fractured's Lore

As far as I know, there have been no purely lore-centric posts so far.

We do have some things, though:

      • The game takes place in a star system where the inhabited planet - Elysium - got split into three different planets and a bunch of asteroids (as seen in Feature Spotlight #2 about worlds), and the Evil Topless Goat Lady facilitates
      • Some flavour excerpts in Feature Spotlight #1 about races: Beastmen are born as quadrupeds and turn more humanoid as they age, Demons are stupid evil infighting idiots, Humans have Demon groupies among their ranks.
      • The three ladies you see on the front page under the Universe sections are not some random women, but are "idols":
        • the Local Version of Themis is Lady Justice, representing Humans' free will,
        • the Smug Naked Showering Dryad is, er, Dryad, representing Beastmen's jolly frollicking,
        • the Evil Topless Goat Lady is Baphomet, representing chaotic nature of lawless life.

      ...aaaand that's about it.

@target Oh, ok, I thought we could build roads where we wanted ^^ It would have been a real mess x)

Oh my, just imagine the possibilities if that was the case.

      • Some dedicated guild building roads right next to other roads, turning once fertile land into an extremely well paved lifeless hellscape, covering first an island, then a continent, and then the WOOOORLD!
      • Veterans creating a circular, closed off road loop in the middle of nowhere as a noob trap for newbie explorers.
      • Two rival small towns, opposite of one another, vying for dominance over the only road connected to the local player hub, using its erratic curve to create confounding crossroads that con candid characters into cruising closer to their conniving chamber of commerce.

Link for convenience of future readers: eXploited, the self-proclaimed "#1 demon guild".

We're currently are the #1 ranking demon guild just look at the leaderboards. lol

      So, we're not self-proclaimed at all, it's a fact. 🙂

is there some sort of plaque in the Ladies Room for being #1 demon guild in the Foundation? 🙂

Yes - both Ladies' Room and Gentlemen's Room have that plaque in the section for constipated MMO players.

That's a very good question, even if it's phrased poorly.
I'm not sure, however, if one can easily put a system for reimbursing gear lost due to guild warfare that wouldn't require a lot of bureaucracy on the part of guild's middle management.

    • RE: What you think about vaping?

@fibs said in What you think about vaping?:

However, because of its perceived relative safety, it's reignited the "it's kool to do it" nonsense among children and immature adults that tobacco smoking originally did, and that's just stupid.

@evolgrinz said in What you think about vaping?:

It's just a conspiracy to give a "healthy" alternative for smokers.
But long term effects of vaping has yet to be researched.

In my opinion, it's just as bad. You are still breathing in stuff that is not supposed to be in your lungs.

@francorider said in What you think about vaping?:

Mostly annoying, in my experience. Smokers usually at least leave the room before they smoke, vapers pull the "It's healthy" card and blow it into your face until you threaten physical violence.

@dordolio said in What you think about vaping?:

I don't think about it. it stinks. it smells different then cigarettes or pipes or cigars. it even smells worse with all the stinky smelly weird …. yuk.

Did... did I just find an echo-chamber that echoes my opinion on vaping? I- I am so happy right now. T_T

Okay, but seriously, I'd kind of prefer if people vaped instead of smoking, because the smell of burnt tobacco:

      • is hitting me right in my autistic hypersensitivity, and it's literally the worst, most horrible smell in the world, and is basically painful,
      • makes my throat hurt,
      • is goddamn freaking intense and travels an absurd goddamn distance.

But unfortunately, despite most establishment updating their anti-smoking policy to forbid vaping, a lot of vapers (including LITERAL CHILDREN) in Poland still think it's totally okay to inhale their mist-based (ie. easily absorbed?), addictive, psychoactive, legal drugs in closed spaces where there are other people, and that's even worse.

    • RE: Character Customization?

You know what else would be noticeable? Armour dyes.
But then again, I don't think they count as character customization in this context.

      So maybe civilian/default/"naked" clothes...?

EDIT: Ohh, customisation is going to play a bigger role for Beastmen, since their animal form surely is going to be naked, so their fur colour and antler types are going to be visible quite often.

    • RE: FibS's big dumb semi-curated NOT official "I want this kind of Beastman!" topic

If we're going for something relatable, I'd go with turtles/tortoises (especially since they come in sizes comparable to wolves). Slow, ponderous, they'd enjoy heightened defences that are completely nullified by the power of brisk walking pace.
Transformation would serve as a panic button that would enable you to hide in your shell and be even more useless.

      ...

More seriously: I'd love a character that specializes in drive-by healing (so: fast, stats focused on healing), but I can't think of an animal that would convey this concept easily.

    • RE: First-Person Perspective

      @spystranger said in First-Person Perspective:

The combat would be a lot more realistic and since Fractured seems to include a lot of adventuring, it would be cooler to look across landscapes and regions to really take in the beauty of the worlds.

The problem here is that you can't easily change a game with an isometric perspective into one with First/Third Person Perspective. There are numerous differences between the two which make going from isometric to FPP a huge step up in cost.

      • In isometric perspective, all characters are tiny and seen only from a certain angle. This means their models can be of relatively low quality (small texture resolution, low polygon count), and their animations will be exaggerated to look clearer from that angle. While in modern game development pipeline upscaling a model might not necessarily be a problem if you're always starting from a way-too-high-detail-to-put-into-actual-game model, redoing all animations is going to be work-intense whatever you do.
      • There is no sky in isometric worlds, which means now you have to make one.
      • There is no horizon in isometric worlds: you only need to render a tiny parcel of land where only a handful of things can fit. When you suddenly add a horizon, there might be loads and loads of thing that a player is supposed to be seeing, and while you never have to actually render all of them, you now have to worry about when and what to draw, which is hard and can lead to numerous problems ranging from being too lenient and melting an average graphic card, to being to strict and having pop-in (things suddenly appearing out of thin air that should have been visible from further away; things too abruptly changing from distant&low-poly to close&high-poly).

...I'm a terrible writer, but you get the gist, yes? It would be

, therefore the game would either require a much higher budget, and/or would have much smaller scope, and/or would make people say "hey, 2008 called and they want their graphics back".
